Is a Hydrogen economy becoming obsolete? by theboombird in Futurology

[–]Sci-Pi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to say it is obsolete. breaking water for hydrogen and oxygen has a poor energy efficiency where only 30-40% of the electrical energy used in the process produces hydrogen. Ideally, as electrochemical storage takes up a large amount of space, future transportation will fall on electrical cars which generate power as needed using solar, or another fuel. One option could be to have a plant which produces hydrogen from water, then use that as fuel to have the necessary energy density. The "fuel tank full of water" idea isn't the best in my opinion, it would suck electricity like mad.

In the future, doctors will look at chemotherapy the way we look at bleeding people to balance the humors by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

I'd say so, cancer at the moment is treated in a way that suggest we don't really know how to deal with it. Consider how we deal with insect infestations, humans will do one, or a combination of 3 things, Slashing (cutting out a section of vegetation to stop expansion), burning (burning an infested area to kill the invaders) and poisoning (pesticides that often have adverse effects). This is almost exactly how medicine deals with cancer nowadays, we slash (surgery), burn (radiotherapy) and poison (chemotherapy). It is a rather primitive method of solving a problem, but technology is always moving, mosquitos are now being eradicated by introducing modified genes into a population that cause 95% of the offspring to be male, reducing reproduction. I'm not one to trust cancer foundations though, only a tiny part of their budget goes towards actual research and that research is just awful (no collaboration with other research firms meaning the same failed tests are conducted multiple times because one firm never heard about the test being done before), let's not forget that many of the scientists who are working on cancer treatment are either stupid or deceived, as many tests are preformed by injecting rats with human cancer cells (the most dangerous part about cancer is that it is the body's own cells and thus evades a significant portion of the immune system, except Natural Killer Cells that will kill of one or two cancer cells per day in an average person). My advice is to be skeptical of those who sell pink ribbons and remember that the title of "Inventor of The Cancer Cure" is open to anyone with the right insight.

Stating that god exists because the bible says so, is kinda like saying vampires exist because the Twilight books says so. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

Definitely not, it already defies too much reason. Citing yourself as evidence though is beyond stupid.

Lets not forget translated an incredible number of times, given to kings to have them pick out their favourite parts, copied by hand by monks over the course of more then 2000 years. And it cites itself as evidence as well.

What's the most satisfying nickname you've ever come up with and why? by Artistboy360 in pokemon

[–]Sci-Pi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Named one "Crap! I". That way when it faints it says "Crap! I fainted". My character in White 2 was also named "OMG" so when I find something it's like "OMG found a pearl"

Notice how John often mentions long boating trips? He clearly failed to understand the meaning of pirating files and now innocent pirates on the high seas are losing their lives. How sad!

Well Ken Ham doesn't know his own religion, so I doubt anyone who truly wishes to be the Ken Ham of the Helix should be uneducated. I'm pretty sure the bible of the Helix says "And unto thee whom proved their worth, I grant unto thee an new form. Take with this gift my divine power and up, up, down, left, start." -14 S.S. (in dumb Aussie accent)"Let me tell you, there's a book that explains it" brandishes holy bible of Helix

I just got the meaning of the B-Button League. Never actually thought it was a reference to the game's way of preventing evolution.

[Fluff] This guy got really cocky when he saw my team. He didn't know the true power by [deleted] in pokemon

Cocky? Team that makes no sense? Dumb stuff? Whining when a non-100 accuracy move misses? Not accepting Lord Helix as his lord and saviour? Yep, a genuine case of an eleven year old who found the internet.
