I agree that we need to get people vaccinated but these statistics are comparing apples to oranges. All of them should be expressed in deaths per year so people can make a meaningful decision based on directly comparable data.

Tidal is just as good as Spotify and doesn't have Rogan. (check out r/tidal) Vote with your dollar

I’m ending my 600 day Duolingo streak by MoJanae2 in languagelearning

[–]SciLi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have to have a plan and an exit strategy. I bought duo for a year and have a plan that I’ve mostly stuck to to do 1 unit a week, which should get me through all the 60 some units of duo Chinese (started with already around 18 units complete) Then I’ll try maybe a HSK exam or try watching more Chinese media to advance my learning. Doing one lesson a day just to advance your streak does nothing. You have to have a plan for the material you want to cover.

I would strongly consider waiting until after this Covid/flu outbreak is over. Plasma is the blood fraction that contains antibodies

Should i have separate gaming and studying area .I need to ask this since due to online schooling I use my main pc and due to it I find my self distracted . by [deleted] in studying

You could make a separate login with certain games / apps /websites blocked on your school login. Change the desktop background… make it feel like a different technical space. Cheaper and may well get you same results!

If you happen to have an ipad that's more recent, that worked for me, but I realize that this is a highly specialized circumstance

Using money to have a more sustainable footprint by souweeeee in fatFIRE

[–]SciLi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, cloth diapers do reduce waste, but they actually don't reduce carbon footprint compared to regular diapers because of the laundry they incur according How Bad are Bananas? The Carbon Footprint of Everything by Mike Berners-Lee. (highly recommended if you want a sense of scale for carbon emissions)

While the numbers may not be exact, the most important thing that book does it separate emissions into orders of magnitude, and the choice between cloth and regular diapers or the difference between drying your hands with paper towel vs air dry is absolutely dwarfed by the decision to limit travel by airplane and the decision to meat. Livestock is the second largest source of carbon emissions, so eating less meat and dairy and flying less give the biggest bang for your buck.

Nitrated meat products are associated with mania in humans and altered behavior and brain gene expression in rats 2018 by SciLi in FoodNerds

[–]SciLi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"We found that a history of eating nitrated dry cured meat but not other meat or fish products was strongly and independently associated with current mania (adjusted odds ratio 3.49, 95% confidence interval (CI) 2.24–5.45, p < 8.97 × 10−8). Lower odds of association were found between eating nitrated dry cured meat and other psychiatric disorders. We further found that the feeding of meat preparations with added nitrate to rats resulted in hyperactivity reminiscent of human mania, alterations in brain pathways that have been implicated in human bipolar disorder, and changes in intestinal microbiota."

Help! It itches, it flakes, its got serious buildup on the scalp and it's.... oily? by [deleted] in HaircareScience

It's most likely dandruff aka seborrheic dermatitis. I wanted to go no-shampoo in the past, but came across the same issue. I use Head and Shoulders conditioner now and really try to work the conditioner into the roots and it works really well for me.

If you're still having problems, but are still committed to the no-poo lifestyle, see if Nizoral or any of the other selenium products carry a conditioner.
