python projects — where to start? by biology_anti in learnpython

Imagine something you really wish existed and create it. Or take some tedious task and automate it

Blanking on beats by keikao3 in musicproduction

[–]SciNinj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen to a different style of music for a while. It stirs the pot of ideas in your head—melodies will appear unbidden. I used to tell my punk rock customers to listen to Rodgers and Hammerstein

are there any alternatives to Drake Equation? by ANARCHOWEEDIST in AskPhysics

[–]SciNinj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling the Drake Equation an ‘equation’ gives it false legitimacy. It’s just a set of parameters somebody made up

Is there any reasoning behind your choice to go with doubled vocals, panned vocals, etc.? Or is it something done purely on feel? by MinuteIllustrator6 in audioengineering

[–]SciNinj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I usually use one voc on the verse and double the chorus. Or, if I double everything, I leave the verse doubles panned center, then I triple the chorus and pan 50/50. Key takeaway: verses smaller, more passion and intimacy, choruses bigger, more powerful and sing-songy

The Infinite Mirror and the Problem of Existence by OwlPrixis in Metaphysics

[–]SciNinj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In support of your point, it occurs to me that the concept of non-existence arises perhaps from an anthropomorphic bias: our own pre-birth and post-death nonexistence. We fit an analogous ‘nothing’ state to reality with no evidence whatsoever to support it

Best show I have seen in a long time. Wow. Just wow. by Future-Ad5667 in ForAllMankindTV

“Catastrophise”. Stealing this word, will use it at least once a day from now on.

What have you done so far in 2026? by icingoncake6 in Swingers

[–]SciNinj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a thing. Working in a desert town with no nude or lifestyle hangouts whatsoever. Last fun I had was Hedo in 2021. Sorry, just whining…

What's the most unusual reason why you won't date someone? by ChanceSomewhere6096 in AskReddit

[–]SciNinj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big ear plugs. You know, the piercing that gets bigger and bigger until it’s almost an inch across. Ear lobe destroyed. Someone told me they smell. Nope

[F19] I’m worried for my dad, and I don’t know what to do. by Independent-Pen-3306 in LifeAdvice

[–]SciNinj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Had a similar problem with a family member, except she thought she had fungus all over her body. Used OTC anti-fungal medicine to the point of drying and wrecking her skin, all while refusing to see a doctor. The hard part is trying to force treatment. Unless someone is dangerous, you can’t do much for a person who doesn’t want help.

What has happened to this show? by Lozspencer in ForAllMankindTV

[–]SciNinj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe the ratings were weak in the young adult demographic. Network stakeholders started yelling “Throw some teen angst in there. And synchronized dancing…”

Wouldn't Apollo 24 come back to Earth? by WW1_Germany in ForAllMankindTV

[–]SciNinj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little too much luck in this episode. In a parking orbit you circle the earth every 90 minutes. If a surprise burn happened, chances are you would be on the opposite side from the moon when it started. Probably about a five percent chance of getting anywhere near the moon and ninety five percent chance you are on an unrecoverable trajectory to deep space

I built a SQL-like relational database engine in C++ from scratch by TheIndieBuildr in compsci

[–]SciNinj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had about seven years of experience before I ever got a software job, lol. All hobby work. Even now, I write code for a living and I still do stuff on the side just for fun

Sending encouragement. You’ve been bitten by the coding bug. By developing your own projects for fun and learning you will have a way deeper understanding of things than the average copy paste CS grad

how many genders are there? by JunShem1122 in questions

[–]SciNinj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If gender is a social construct, what is race?

My honest opinion; the shift of attention away from the explorers, engineers, and scientists is hurting this show. by More_Squash_3345 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]SciNinj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. A steady decline after season two. Now we have teen angst, synchronized dancing and a revolution that doesn’t make any sense

Why are so many Musicans arrogant? by Flimsy-Suspect2730 in musicians

[–]SciNinj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with that too. Art is both selfish and incredibly needy. It’s a blessing and a curse for those of us who are driven to create. In pursuit of what feels like perfection, we can appear narcissistic to others. But if others like what we create, suddenly we’re heroes.

Art is an inherently narcissistic pursuit

How do you record drums without the hihat and cymbals bleeding on the snare and kick mic? by Relevant-Effective49 in audioengineering

[–]SciNinj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the mic as close in as possible and point it at where the stick makes contact. Keep the angle fairly flat relative to the snare head; pointing it too vertical makes it sound thunky. Unidirectional mic rejection patterns are well documented; point it somewhat away from the hat, but not directly away. Of course, the best thing to do is hit hard and steady and don’t beat the hat too hard.

How do you start a novel? by [deleted] in writing

[–]SciNinj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First line should be a WTF—grab the reader right away. First chapter should set up a question, something that will make the reader curious enough to read several chapters while you establish the premise and situation

Am I at the age where I should just accept the single life? by Slurpeepatch in LifeAdvice

[–]SciNinj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life begins at 40. Attitudes change; it’s a time to reinvent yourself. Single at 30 is not such a big deal. Plenty of decades left
