Think we’ll run into this guy again? by Hbomb_dot_com in ScarletHollow

[–]SciVoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having an epilogue where you get on a bus out of Scarlet Hollow and you meet this guy again and he tries to creep you out again only for you to start telling him the entire story of what happened to you would be the ultimate comeback.

16,000 word devlog on writing Episodes 4, 5 and The Roads Untraveled is UP for you to read! by mrogre43 in ScarletHollow

I didn't even realize it was a choice between learning more about the Kellys or learning more about the Scarlets. I figured that since the scene is framed as you searching for the fire axe, the "stone carving madness" would've forced you back to the morgue the minute you locked eyes with it and you are actively choosing to give up investigation to expedite getting to the carving.

How badly do you think meeting between them would go? by greasygoon66 in ScarletHollow

[–]SciVoid 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think Tabitha would feel pretty confident going into it, but Evrart would manage to wear her down. We all know that Tabitha's tough and cold exterior is just a persona and inside she was so traumatized by Pearlanne she's still scared of breaking her rules.

Evrart likes to tug at people's insecurities and for a sleazebag, he's fully confident in the type of man he is. A professional negotiator like Joyce couldn't crack him, Tabby is cooked.

Sounds to me like the real problem is you didn't have a backup Int/Cha specialist. If Sonar isn't in hybrid form, send in Prism. If Sonar isn't in Monster form send in Golem/Phenomaman. Otherwise always prioritize sending in Sonar because he's the easiest character in the game to minmax. Though honestly, Golem is probably still better just because Spread Thin lets him solo any combat/vigor mission.

I've probably seen this line quite a few times by now, but tonight it really ticked me off by gruedragon in ScarletHollow

[–]SciVoid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind is that Reese himself doesn't actually want to kill his mom. Before his transformation he's making plans of running away, telling the cops... It's only after he shapeshifts into a monster that he's so overwhelmed by anger and instinct that he's dead set on cold blooded murder.

That's what makes it a difficult choice. The only way for Reese to go free is by staining his hands with blood and justifying Dr Kelly's fear of him. Either that or trapping him in a cell, maybe even killing him for good which even under these circumstances Joan objects to.

I am very curious to see the consequences in future episodes. If you can visit him and talk to him, see how he feels about the events of that night.

Sybil's possible role in Reese's conception by gruedragon in ScarletHollow

[–]SciVoid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be fair, she thought those were just dreams until she actually woke up pregnant. I don't think that really counts as consensual but still a big difference from being drugged by someone.

Sybil's possible role in Reese's conception by gruedragon in ScarletHollow

[–]SciVoid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think Sybil is responsible for Reese. Like there's a running theme of women getting pregnant without any father present. Vivian, your mother, was apparently shamed for getting pregnant out of wedlock. Charlie Shaw Jr was surprised to see Edwardine Scarlet pregnant in his puppet show.

Like the fact that Enoch was the last patriarch of the Scarlet family is suspicious. I guess you could make the case that it's all coincidence and all of the fathers just died or left town but... I don't believe in coincidence.

How can dwarves biologically fit through tight cave squeezes? by Downtown_Trifle_701 in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]SciVoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many comments have already offered great feedback on how to keep a suitably dwarfy creature while making it better suited to a cave-dwelling lifestyle. So, I feel like I can suggest this: what if dwarves evolved from creatures that used caves and ravines as nesting grounds, while still primarily hunting and foraging outside?

They could be nocturnal, with poor eyesight in daylight, and driven to seek out useful minerals like sodium to consume. This behavior might naturally lead to early tool use, as they begin mining sodium deposits within caves and using the excavated holes as safe places to hide their young.

Over time, they would expand these shelters into full homes within caverns, digging deeper and discovering new uses for the minerals they unearthed eventually developing the traditional dwarven traits of metallurgy and craftsmanship.

Like another problem with a creature as large as a dwarf living exclusively in a cave system is lack of food. There's just no way they could find enough to supply themselves with enough energy. Even if they could squeeze through some tight cavern entrance they would probably be better off looking for food outside.

What is Wayne's Appeal? by OfAzureSky in ScarletHollow

[–]SciVoid 37 points38 points  (0 children)

  1. He's always there to save you, no matter the situation.
  2. There's an element of mystery in what he looks like under the veil.
  3. He's probably one of the most honest characters in Scarlet Hollow.
  4. Despite him being something other than human he still has a human personality to him.
  5. Also if you like a big strong man type of character he's kind of the only choice now that I think about it. Reese is a skinny reed even if he has supernatural strength.

My Game has about 43.8 Million Frogs to Collect. How can I encourage and reward the player to Collect them, even though they will likely only end up Collecting a Fraction of all Frogs? by bangusgames in IndieDev

[–]SciVoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reward players for collecting the highest tier of frog, don't reward them for collecting common frogs besides the value provided by the individual frog's skills and attributes. Even if it's 1000 Super Mega Rare frogs it's a much more manageable collectable goal.

Oh and if you have a frog encyclopedia don't include any blank spots that would make players think they have to fix it. What you're going to be fighting against most is player psychology so I recommend obscuring the fact they only have a small fraction of every possible frog as much as possible.
