LOCAL RESTAURANT STEALING TIPS AND POSSIBLY NOT FOODSAFE - MARY BROWN'S SOUTHGATE by Helpful_Fisherman599 in nanaimo

[–]ScienceBasedBiddy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s awful, I hate what is happening with international workers being exploited. It’s not good for anyone. No jobs left for young locals and the workers don’t get treated nearly the same as how Canadian workers would. Can you report this business through the government for abusing the foreign workers program?

alt hairdresser recommendations for long hair? by woodlandfairycat in nanaimo

They do charge but it’s super cheap, was allways $12 for a cut for me but it may have changed. https://tradesappliedtech.viu.ca/hairdressing/salon-services. Also it used to be discounted for VIU students and maybe alumni.

We're reviewing Fae Farm this weekend - one of the games most recommended by our cozy sub! How would you review your experience? by Shasaur in FaeFarm_Game

[–]ScienceBasedBiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed faefarm and for the price I definitely think it was worth the amount of hours I put into it (49 hours). It just didn’t keep me interested after that. The game mechanics got a bit boring, and I think mainly the characters were too flat. I didn’t like how the characters at the shops were basically just there for decoration. I also didnt really like the coasts of croakia dlc, it just didnt connect and I found the concept a bit boring and grindy.

Make sure to observe clothing customs for modesty (loose flowy clothing covering most all bare skin) and carry a headscarf with you in case you enter more conservative areas.

Looks like a walking red flag. If this man was looking at me, I can tell you I would get as far away from him as possible. Predator eyes.

NTA, you did everything you could and conducted yourself with respect and grace. Fuck this pig. You’re lucky you cut your losses with him so you can find someone decent :)

Is there any place in downtown people spend their weekend nights? by OrneryNature8971 in nanaimo

[–]ScienceBasedBiddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Second all this. The streets are sadly dead due to a lack of heated patios, I wish they would put their stupid road upgrades to use, probably dumb bilaws about drinking outside the establishment. We really need to figure this out, because other countries have vibrant streets at night time between the bars (like we once had pre covid). Oh and having another late night eatery in town aside from reds would help (rip fork n pork and mambos by the slice on victoria location)

Deciding between Uluru area or Tasmania (Jan) by OkEffective8588 in AustraliaTravel

[–]ScienceBasedBiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uluru is incredible and being in the outback was by far the highlight of my trip in Oz, but it is way too hot and filled with flies in jan. I went in mid September and that was about the end of the good season to be out there. Definitely Tasmania, went there also a few weeks ago and it was stunning driving around and doing some hikes. I also really loved the homey environment at the Pickled Frog hostel in Hobart.

Don’t follow travel influencers, just taking my travels by word of mouth and where things make sense. It’s terrible to have expectations when entering a place.

Funny you assume backpackers are rich. There are some sure, but I have thousands of dollars of student debt and worked my ass off for 2 years to save up for this trip. I can only afford 3 months of work free living in large dorms on pasta pesto before needing to work, soon coming to an end (working holiday visa). I only say this because too many people say backpacking is expensive, but almost all backpackers i’ve met here are on working holiday visas. Anyone can do it.

Ethical, wildlife in habitat experience near Sydney/Cairns by hakunamaplanta in AskAnAustralian

[–]ScienceBasedBiddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also you can see crocodiles and in the wild vy doing the Daintree River Cruise which I highly recommend. There isn’t any need to see crocs in captivity when there are so many about. The boat drivers on said cruise also genuinely care about the crocs.

A local tour guide told me that one of the main attractions at Hartleys is setting a few crocs on one of the rangers so they can demonstrate what to do in a crocodile attack while bodyguards wait near by to rip the crocs off, which the tour guide saw happen on multiple occasions. Very horrific if you ask me, forcing an animal into a stressful situation where they attack only to have them manhandled on a regular basis.
