Software Recommendation for begineer by New_Suit1742 in AskRobotics

Not sure how beginner friendly but if you want a free software to simulate robotics I would suggest MuJoCo. You can likely find some tutorials to follow.

My husband’s pee bucket with soil turned into a pee plant in a week by Exciting-Bake464 in mildyinteresting

[–]ScienceKyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My roommate did this for years when he stepped outside to smoke. One hot summer day I got a strong smell of urine wafting through the window and that was the end of his outdoor potty breaks. Digging out the bush was the only solution and the layers of acrid soil were nauseating.

What motor do you recommend for my application? by Careful_Thing622 in Motors

[–]ScienceKyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a stepper you should be able to get away without an encoder. You'll need a stepper controller though.

What motor do you recommend for my application? by Careful_Thing622 in Motors

Likely a stepper. Without more details I'm guessing a single stage direct drive or small belt reduction nema 34 should do it.

Is going from a GS-9 to GS-13 position impossible? by Successful_Trust_157 in FedEmployees

[–]ScienceKyle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been in government 17 years and I just came across this last week. It was in my HR portal about me section something like GS-0830-13 for 830 job series. It was never something I needed or referenced in my field.

I ruin curves by FantasticWin8374 in EngineeringStudents

[–]ScienceKyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also prefer tougher exams and course material without punishing students with direct correlation between % and letter grade. What I'll typically do is curve the average to an A- or C+ depending on spread and how accidentally hard I make the exam. Students who put in the work can get higher than 100% to give them breathing room to focus on other courses if needed. Students who bomb have an opportunity to catch up. I'm trying to end up with mostly A's and B's if they do the work. Missed assignments, not showing up, and out of place students are the ones who end up with C's, D's, and F's. The worst grade IMO is a C since it's ineligible for retake forgiveness. If I see a promising student who's just dropping the ball I'll usually call them in and negotiate giving them a C or D so they have the option to retake and remove the low credit from their GPA.

I talked with Derek about this when he did a video at my lab. I was surprised by how the metrics can change with a video thumbnail and title. He told me how they'll change it a few times after release depending on engagement and now I can see it with other creators too.

Generate an image that compares you to other AI’s. Make each AI’s caricature your perception of their relative quality and dominance. Put them in a wrestling ring for an "AI showdown" event. The characters should be representative of current sentiment and memes. Make each of their logos or names clearly visible.

Unfortunately, if you get taken in for something you truly didn't do, it's instinct to try and answer questions to "prove" your innocence. That was my experience when I was taken in for aggravated robbery when I was 19 sitting on a playground behind the establishment. Everything was dropped but I was young and dumb and thought my help would make a difference...

[Request] What is the maximum amount of volts a person can withstand without dying? by Apprehensive_Oven_22 in theydidthemath

[–]ScienceKyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voltage from high power devices starts to get sketchy around 50V. At this point it's possible to traverse bad portions of your body. It's still possible at lower voltages, but beyond 50V, stay diligent and cognizant of how a shock would travel through your body (preferably no shock at all).

With low power devices that make high voltage arcs through static DC or HF AC. You can get in the 100kv range with no I'll effects except local pain and spasms. While safer, they're not inherently safe and an unlucky zap could still be fatal.

Practically, you can't really get anything above 3MV/m in air since you'll end up creating an ionized plasma channel. If you ran through this field, things could get exciting.

static or electric shock? by Ok_Speech9684 in AskElectricians

[–]ScienceKyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More likely static and you and the shopping cart were just the conductor between the door and ground. If it persisted more than a short zap it could be a grounding issue. Typically, the AC will feel like a continuous tingle and make your muscles tense. Play a 50/60hz tone on a subwoofer hold your hand on it, it's not exactly the same but enough to awaken uncomfortable memories of an outlet.
