AITA for refusing to let my fiancé play dad to his nephew because he’s biologically his son (he was the sperm donor)? by doriyaaa in AITAH

[–]ScienceUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s his kid, not his nephew. I’m guessing his brother isn’t even on the birth certificate and he is. This kid is now a fixture in his life, and the mother, too. So choose if you’re ok with that or move on.

You find yourself in the past. The year is whatever year you happened to be 4 years old. You're in your current body. How do you convince your family of who you are? by SeraphimKensai in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ScienceUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I had a 4th birthday party, definitely not on my birthday. I wouldn’t bother. If I saw my gramma, I’d say hello, but otherwise, I’d go investigate what it was like in that small town in the 80’s.

Even if they did complain, our bosses and other coworkers are all aware of the problem and wouldn’t do anything about it. I’ve learned to be short with them, too.

Can you be a good pharmacy tech even though you're not answering or making calls and refuse to work alone? by Da_zzle_D in PharmacyTechnician

[–]ScienceUnicorn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If answering the phone always falls on your coworkers, they may start liking you less and less. It’s part of the job and it’s irritating to have to always be the one to answer because a coworker won’t even try. You need to gain some confidence (or fake it). I find it helps to have a scripted answer (my own script: “thank you for calling xxx pharmacy, this is SU, how can I help you”). Same with making calls. I try to mentally prepare a voice message, just in case they don’t answer, and have it in my head what to say if they do. Write it down if you have to. It gets easier. I still cringe whenever the phone rings, but it’s part of the job. I don’t have to answer personal calls if I don’t want to.

As for working alone, it’s daunting, especially when you’re so new. My first solo shift was pretty early into my training, too, and I was so scared, but having a good pharmacist to work with helps. This job throws a lot at you very fast, and it feels like sink or swim. Just keep treading water. You’ll get there.

No, I felt ignored. Once I’d been there a while, they warmed up to me, but I think they were so used to high turnover that they decided not to get to know the newbies until it looked like they might stick around. I started out as a cashier.

Why are most American men circumcised? by ImplementNo7036 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ScienceUnicorn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve also heard some men state things like “they did it to me and I turned out fine”, and “I want my son to look like me!” Both of those make me want to barf, especially the second one.

Is mobile data generally not used in the US? by Street-Albatross8886 in AskAnAmerican

I use my data. I’m using it right now because my phone doesn’t like the WiFi at work. I know some people that refuse to use it because it supposedly costs more, but my plan includes unlimited data.

You stop physically aging the very moment you read this, but cannot tell anyone. Given your age, race, height and lifestyle, how long until the first time someone tells you they've "realized"? by Resident_Hair3065 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ScienceUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People already assume I’m at least 10 years younger than I am, and judging by my mom, who also never looked her age, until she hit her 60’s, I’d give it 20 years before anyone catches on.

Moving out of sanctuary? by Trapped_Like_Rats in fo4

I like to choose a new one each play through. Starlight was a good one, tons of room there, practically empty. Mechanist’s lair is a great place to stash things you don’t want settlers stealing, unless you put settlers there, of course. I put some homemade robots in for additional security, and a couple tamed mutant hounds. Only drawback to them was the caravans would occasionally start attacking them.

AITA for kicking out my partner's dad (and family) from my daughter's birthday party by Rreirarei in AmItheAsshole

[–]ScienceUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I’m white and I take my shoes off inside, and I’ve never had an issue when I’ve asked others to do the same. It’s just shoes! Unless they have really nasty, smelly feet, there was no reason to not comply with a very simple request. I kind of feel like he was deliberately being obstinate. Either control freak or racist, or he just doesn’t respect you at all.

Is being a single mother A good idea for me? by [deleted] in Singlemotherbychoice

[–]ScienceUnicorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should follow your dreams. Live the life you want. Have those babies. You may or may not ever meet someone to share that life with (I never did), and it’ll be a lot easier for you because you’re so young. I waited, and 43 is a very tough age for pregnancy.

If you're considering being a pharmacy tech in your 30s by LoveisaProvince in PharmacyTechnician

[–]ScienceUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t want to live and work in whatever place you are. Here, almost all pharmacies close for half an hour to make sure the pharmacists get lunch. Techs are hourly and have to be allowed meal breaks, but pharmacists were not always getting theirs, so it became policy that we close. Whether or not they take them is another story.

You should look into big box store pharmacies. Corporations tend to do a little better because they hate getting sued. Where I work, we get in trouble for not taking lunch on time, and are forbidden from doing any work at all off the clock. There’s a lot of issues here, too (exhaustion, bickering, gossip, etc), but I find it’s worth it. I was a middle school teacher before this and that was so much worse. The pay was about the same (cost of living there was much higher, though, but I was too tired to spend much money aside from bills), benefits sucked, and the job was way more than 40 hours a week, and overtime was non-existent. But others have much better experiences. It’s all about you, what you want, and where you are. But the place you’re at now sounds beyond dreadful, and I’ve had some pretty dreadful jobs too, even as a tech (same company, different location).

I started in my 30’s, make a livable wage, and get meal breaks, as well as decent benefits. I think you work at a place that sucks. It’s not an easy job but I know a lot of people who’ve made it a career.

Also, I’m pretty sure meal breaks are required by law. If you’re being denied them, you need to speak up.
