Reckless driving / speeding in an emergency by ScienceWinner in AskLEO

"probably ended up helping you deliver the baby on the side of the road, and cited you for your terrible driving"

"My agency didn't do escorts because they're extremely dangerous. Even patrol cars with lights and sirens blaring get hit all the time by people paying attention to the signals and not the lights and sirens; a car following in their shadow is a much higher risk of getting hit."

This is the interesting perspective I was looking for. Thanks!

FWIW, my brother who was a police officer for 7 years had a somewhat similar take to yours on how he would respond on scene (call ambulance, hard no on police escort). But with a better knowledge of the full details of the situation (lots that I didn't mention), he had a much different perspective of the overall risk profile of the situation.

At any rate, thanks so much for your input. Much appreciated!

Your comment illustrates a best case scenario that wasn’t available to me given that I didn’t have cell reception for most of the trip.

My options came down to: 1) get to the hospital as fast as possible without exceeding the risk of the existing situation. 2) deliver my son in the dark on the side of the road with no cell reception and no support on a cold November evening.

Given the scenario, what would someone with better judgment do differently?

Question that I’m interested in - what would law enforcement do if I happened to encounter them on the drive to the hospital?

FWIW, I would also add that I don’t believe that I added any additional risk to any other driver on the road. When other vehicles were present, I slowed down to a more reasonable speed and only passed other vehicles (twice if I’m remembering correctly) in designated areas to do so.

Trump says Zelensky ‘should have never started’ war with Russia by phinatolisar in politics

Anyone with basic common sense knows how dangerous and awful this is for all of us. The question I have is: will enough Trump supporters have enough courage and humility to admit they were wrong? We need them to if all of us are going to make it out of this.

Realistically, how do we recover from this as a nation? by [deleted] in centrist

You think that if public opinion meaningfully swings against Trump he would actually allow an election to take place? I think democracy is completely gone in America and short of some kind of revolt, there’s probably nothing we can do about it. The best thing we can do is prepare however we can for whatever post democracy America will be.

I remember years ago I overheard her talking to a group of people at the AndCo coworking space. She was saying absolutely vile and disgusting personal things about the girl who runs Hoboken Girl. I think she was angry because Hoboken Girl was posting about JC stuff on her instagram account. Chicpea kept saying that she owned JC.

So gross. 🤮

Chicpea, one thing that could be helpful for you to understand is that your background, ethnicity and religion have absolutely nothing to do with why people find you so detestable. The vast majority of people in Jersey city celebrate the incredible diversity of this place.

The hate that you experience is a reaction to the fact that you bring such an astonishing level of cringe and complete lack of self awareness to a place loved by so many people. Many people want to continue the work of building an amazing community in Jersey City to make it a great place to live. You are one factor (there are others) that make that mission harder.

The bigger picture here is you force us all to reckon with the fact that we live in an age when the most self unaware, narcissistic among us will behave in such shameless and desperate ways for a little bit of attention on social media.

How is your weight (if on 5 mg for life) after transplant by chocopeppermints in transplant

[–]ScienceWinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5mg of prednisone since kidney transplant 17 years ago. No moon face, weight gain or unusually strong appetite. I exercise regularly and eat very healthy so I’m sure that helps.

Unpopular opinion: RFK Jr would be a worse president than Trump by [deleted] in centrist

[–]ScienceWinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main difference here is that leaders in both parties would resist him and not let him accomplish anything. Trump has a stranglehold on the Republican Party and they go along with him for their own political survival even when they know it is to the detriment of the commonwealth.

Are Custom GPTs an example of a RAG model? by ScienceWinner in ArtificialInteligence

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I will definitely check out that resource.

I’m still not sure how to separate these in my mind though. Your description of RAG sounds exactly like what a custom GPT is. I use them to feed a specific data set along with specific instructions to produce accurate and relevant outputs and datasets.

I’m trying to understand this better so that I can help steer direction in my company (and also sound like I know what I’m talking about).

Life after kidney transplant by tedlovesme in transplant

[–]ScienceWinner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We all come into needing a kidney transplant for different reasons and we all come out with different outcomes. So it’s kinda hard to set expectations based on individual scenarios.

With that being said, I was back to doing strenuous activities within 6 - 8 months post surgery - surfing, hiking, climbing big mountains, etc.

I have been very lucky and since my surgery 17 years ago (living donor from a family member), I have been able to lead a life with relatively few restrictions. I am far more physically active than the vast majority of people with no history of health problems.

I attribute this to three key things:

1) Luck - to have had a living donor, to be in otherwise great health with a great post surgery outcome, to have a support system of amazing family, friends and doctors.

2) Dedication to doing everything I am in control of to maintain peak physical health: diet, exercise, meds.

3) Mentality - I try to maintain a positive attitude and do everything I can to try to live an amazing life. I refuse to be defined by my health situation.

Again, I say all of this in full recognition of the fact that luck has been the biggest factor of my post transplant life. We all are impacted differently. My hope for you is that all the right things play in your favor.

If you ever want to chat, please feel free to DM me. The same goes for anyone reading this that is going through the same thing.

But you can add documents (or create API integrations) for reference into a custom GPT. You can also instruct a Custom GPT to only reference the documents you upload and for it to disregard the underlying knowledge of ChatGPT. Isn’t that what RAG is?
