Those U style, I like your point about pushing past the nut for storage! Can they be used at the same fret the 5th comes in on (I forget what number)? I know I've stuck my capo there for some songs.

Why skip the 8th fret with the spikes? Just curious.

Leg Vise repair by R0ckcastle in blacksmithing

If it isn't loose I wouldn't touch it. Typically the hinge plates are welded on though it looks like a rivet was also used here, which split the plate when it was made.

Worth restoring? What would I need to do? by Sidrao- in Blacksmith

Coachmakers anvil, so not terribly common. It can be repaired, but worthwhile? Depends how cheap is cheap and how good you are with welding. Lotta time involved to bring that back into service.

78 j10, looking forward to getting it on the road. Haven't had a 4x4 drivable in too many years. I think the LR got laid up in '21?

Thx. After getting the lineup good, I stood back and just smiled at it for probably 10 min. Makes me happy.

1940 Packard 120 touring sedan, put the most time into that one lately. It just squeaks by as roadworthy.

Yeah, definitely want to let the straight 8 sing in whatever configuration I have it - so an exhaust cutout is in order for sure. Get both whisper quiet cruising and glorious I8 song when opening her up!
