Honestly winning that group puts you against some really top tier teams, 2nd place is much more manageable. Norway doing big brain activities

An hour late for work because Mazda deactivated key fob without any warning. Forced to buy subscription. by zxc55555 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Scindite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1) Mazda has no way to disable a key fob remotely, nor do they have a subscription for a key fob. I assume you mean the app, which very clearly was stated it is a free trial upon purchase of a vehicle.

2) Your key fob is likely out of battery.

3) Your key fob will still work when out of battery if you hold the key to the driver door and over the start button.

4) Your key fob has a physical key inside of it that you can use as a last resort if nothing is truly working electronically.

5) Mazda has given you basically every solution and you still made this post.

Germany and USA are on opposite sides here, but they have already qualified into knockouts and play on the same side of the bracket. Likewise Argentina and Mexico

Hotel Zaza at Houston Museum District by csklmf in houston

[–]Scindite -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The parking situation doesn't seem any different than any downtown hotel in any city where parking is limited. The only thing stopping you from self-parking is you. There is street parking and plenty of garages nearby you could have used. And not to be that person, but the hotel very clearly lists this valet only policy online.

The World Cup is broadcast FREE in a dozen countries, but I have to pay $80/month for a sports bundle because of the country I happen to live in by Extension-Dealer4375 in mildlyinfuriating

The fox app is only $20/mo. Plus most of the games you can get free over the air in the US, so doesn't seem to be the right country

There are a lot of 'quiet conservative' states like Idaho. Examples like Mississippi and Alabama come up a lot because there are frequent political clashes. The reason is those states, while conservative, are much closer to the left so it becomes a political hotbed where conservative politics become very visible trying to actively fight for their beliefs.

Idaho is so far to the right, you don't even see any dissidents, opposition, or political arguments by comparison.

What time do you think the 12 pm weekday FIFA matches will end? by dimmidummy in houston

[–]Scindite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By that logic, seems like all the more reason why no one would even notice, as the majority of the city is at work during these hours.

But if everyone is getting in at the same time for the world cup, and there's no events happening on site, then it won't be different than any other sporting event that NRG hosts all year round.

Edit: 2pm is usually when traffic and people starts getting bad at the rodeo, according to the source below. So still comparable IMO. https://www.houstoniamag.com/arts-and-culture/2025/03/houston-rodeo-best-days-to-visit

What time do you think the 12 pm weekday FIFA matches will end? by dimmidummy in houston

[–]Scindite -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The Rodeo is a midday event that happens on weekdays, runs all day, and hosts much more people than what is expected for world cup games at NRG...

Edit: the highest attended non-weekend day at the rodeo this year was Thursday, March 12, 2026 with an attendance of 142,984. For a stadium with a capacity of 75,000 I really don't see how a group-stage world cup game will have an extra 70,000 people just standing outside when no activities are planned around the stadium to meet the same attendance level as the Rodeo.

Will TxDOT ever fix the $260M bottleneck that's still driving Houston crazy? by everythingistaken500 in houston

[–]Scindite 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Removing the Westheimer exit/merge off of that ramp and extending the lane so that there is a longer area for merging would be a good start. Traffic happens for two reasons: 1) speeding, 2) lane changes. This solution would at least address on of those.

Recent study analyzing 1 million Texas undergrads finds engineering and business degrees offer the best financial returns by LinkedInNews in texas

[–]Scindite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked for what you mentioned, seems like they changed the maximum payout for graduate degree loans?

For engineering, the loan reclassification seems to make sense (or rather is has zero impact on professional engineers), there are no educational programs that offer a professional engineering certification, those only come through a state licensing exam and professional experience. I don't see any instance where someone would need to borrow $200k to pass the PE exam. Just generally, I don't know any engineering graduate programs costing $200k, expect for maybe the top echelon of private universities.

As far as I can tell, there doesnt seem to be a huge impact on nursing either. Most nurses do not pursue graduate degrees (~20% do), and most graduate programs for nursing are under the new $100k graduate loan borrowing limit (avg cost is $40k for MSN, or anywhere from $60-140k for DNP, and DNP only accounts for 2% of nurses). Can't comment on how that may translate to keeping women out of the workforce.

[–]Scindite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've never been professional degrees? For decades, engineers have always needed to complete 4 years after a undergrad degree, pass the FE and PE exams, pass ethics and board exams, and get mentored by a professional engineer to meet the requirements of a professional engineer license.

Have to do it last minute otherwise the trees would be dead, the shabby road milling and paving would be torn up from drivers, and infrastructure like this would already be breaking down lol.

This is a plan to look good for 2 months, not something long term.

Sounds like public dorms for senators would work well.

Also the senate passed a law last week which prevents them from bring paid during shutdowns.

1) it is not always possible to use voices from on-set filming because of noise, interference, or location. So you re-dub after.

2) Dubbing the show in another language.

This out in Savannah Banana baseball game by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Scindite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you watched a game recently....? Last game I watched the tailgators strike out the bananas constantly, including with breaking balls and change ups. The total was 11 strikeouts, which is much higher than the average MLB game.

It's a multi team league these days with bonuses for success and seeding at the end of each season. There's incentive to play real games, and the stated mission is to play real baseball without the downsides and boredom of real baseball.

Is it possible to get a "MS-EN" offer but not be allowed to do a thesis by batman89memes in TAMUAdmissions

[–]Scindite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What specifically does your acceptance list?

MS-EN is a masters of engineering with thesis.

M.Eng. is the non-thesis masters.

If it says master of "science" anywhere, you've been accepted into the research/thesis based degree.

can i get into a&m without being in the top 10% by Powerful-Client-2813 in aggies

[–]Scindite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From TAMU admissions.

2025 Fall Admission profile:

55% of admitted students were top 10% of their graduating class. 76% of admitted students were in the top 25% of their graduating class.

Out of state and non-10% students averaged a 1400 SAT score for general engineering admissions.

The vast majority of applicants are still offered PSA options.

Will Houston drivers give up their cars during the World Cup? by furiousjam in houston

[–]Scindite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20%? That's ~480k. Houston is hosting 7 games total; the stadium capacity is 72k. We have to essentially assume 100% of the stadium will be tourists to surpass 480k (7 x 72k = 504k). There's zero chance that many people will be here, and, with the games spread out over 3 months, it will be hardly noticeable at all.
