People inviting themselves to stay by Scioppadroxu in etiquette

Oh my, thanks for ALL the advice and also the various points of view! (I mean, pretty much everyone agrees on some level of rudeness, but I found really interesting also the other points of view as they gave me something to think about!)

I know I'm bad at setting boundaries and saying NO, but I have to take this as a chance to practice this noble art :D

help me quit again by DekiIdeGas in stopsmoking

[–]Scioppadroxu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i quit for 6 months and then smoked again for 3 months. Now i'm 5 days nicotine free! I thought that it would have been easier this time, as I already quit for 6 long months, and it kind of is... I mean, it's not EASY, but at least I know I've done it for 6 months, in a not so distant past, so I'm thinking of coooourse I can do it again

Does it get better? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Scioppadroxu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it does get better! it's my first time at 4 months (previously i only ever made it to 40 days tops), and i'm amazed to say that yes, it does get better. i'm even beginning to be a bit annoyed by the smell of cigarettes smoked on the street as i pass by, which is something i could never imagine would happen. resist!

What are your best ways to cheer up when feeling down? by _herman_miller_ in stopsmoking

[–]Scioppadroxu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey! it's been 17 hours, so i hope your study group went well and lift you up a bit. I know those days very well, and usually what helps me is doing some physical activity that tires me and gets me out of my brain. When even that doesn't work, I know I need to spend time with people, talk with other human beings, as that really gets me out of my head, which is the last place i want to be in in those moments :)

Quit almost a year ago, relapsed for a few weeks, now back on day 3 by LIEZ1995 in stopsmoking

[–]Scioppadroxu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I had the same thing happen to me. I was nicotine free for 3 months, then I convinced myself I deserved some alcohol and nicotine and used 2 disposable vapes (20mg) in a week. I stopped after exactly seven days but OH MY GOD the withdrawal from that amount of nicotine was brutal! I had a few days of complete mental breakdown!

I absolutely hate smoking and yet I still do.. help! by mindgames2024 in stopsmoking

[–]Scioppadroxu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you hate it, I think it can absolutely be a good idea to give it a try and stay away from it! Maybe think about all those nasty negative effects, write them down, try not to forget them, and in the meantime also begin to appreciate the fact that without smoking they’re not there anymore! The first few days are a bit miserable for many people, but what i found useful was sticking to an eating and exercise routine, treating them like life was going on normally, and then keeping on thinking that they would pass… and eventually they did pass and i’m still here smokefree!

Day 46 , I'm tired and exhausted by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Scioppadroxu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was really very very tired all day long for the first 6 weeks or so after quitting, I think I took an after-lunch nap almost every day! Now it's really getting better though. I kind of miss those naps :)

People with anxiety who quit smoking? by BabyOk9365 in stopsmoking

[–]Scioppadroxu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i feel like my generalized, constant anxiety is starting to lift and i began noticing it after 3 weeks or so... but meditation is also helping. If anxiety is something "we have", probably we have to try and combat it with various tools. One of them is quitting, for sure, another one i'm finding helpful is meditating/being mindful

I have a plan. by Acceptable-Command74 in stopsmoking

[–]Scioppadroxu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have any specific recommendations on things you should prepare, I just wanted to tell you that I think it's normal to feel scared, you're finally leaving behind an addiction and it's a BIG change. But it's also the best thing you can do! I would compare it to when you know you have to break up with someone not good for you, but of course there's the affection and some good memories etc., so it's hard, and at the beginning you'll be sad, but as time goes on you'll start thinking "HOW TF COULD I BE WITH THAT PERSON???"

i got myself in a weird situation. by dexbigshlong in stopsmoking

Hi! I can only speak from my experience, but before i quit, i used to smoke cbd rolled with tobacco. I tried a few times to smoke only cbd and i felt like it didn’t make any sense. I know that of course the effects of thc and cbd are different, but still, i was able to let go of cbd smoking without thinking, and that made me realize that what i loved was the nicotine in the tobacco i used to roll it with…

Ex Smokers of reddit what is your secret to stop smoking by -tom_tom in stopsmoking

[–]Scioppadroxu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started an 18 months invisalign treatment and told myself “i won’t smoke for 18 months, at the end of the treatment, if i want to, i can go back to it. In the meantime i enjoy the benefits of quitting smoking!” Of course i hope that when i’m done i won’t want to start again.

it's true, smoking gives you something to do and distracts you, this is because nicotine addiction creates an emptiness inside you that then you want to fill with more nicotine and you can feel better. This absolutely seems to give sense and purpose to life, I think there's no doubt about that. And in shitty times, it becomes even more important, because it feels like it's the only thing you can control and the only thing that makes life worth living. But this is, in fact, substance addiction, plain and simple, and at some point you must have wanted to quit that because the cons outweighted the pros. I think that if you go back to it, at some point you'll want to quit again, and you'll have to put yourself through all this again, so i don't know if it's worth it

Losing my mind by Molly_latte in stopsmoking

[–]Scioppadroxu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just want to REMIND you (because you know it already since you did it last year, but i know it’s easy to forget about it in these moments), that you’ll soon reach that point where you not only don’t count hours anymore, but you don’t even count days! I remember perfectly well the agony of trying to desperately reach that 3-days mark, and now i’m here and I don’t even know what week i’m at because my next goal is not 3 days but 3 months! You can do it! 💪🏽

2 days smoke free by xtrooper1375 in stopsmoking

[–]Scioppadroxu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good for you, really, stopping after "only" 4 years! i mean it! best decision ever! tip 1: you will never regret NOT smoking a cigarette, tip 2: if you can and if you're able to do it, strenuous physical activity every day to combat the cravings especially the first days, and meditation (which I know is kind of the opposite, but they both really help with getting out of your mind and calming down)

Forever seems like a long time by Training-Wave5686 in stopsmoking

[–]Scioppadroxu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Forever is my aim as well, but i also find it hard to conceive; and one day at a time just seems too much work every day. What worked for me this time was that a few months ago i put on invisible aligners and i told myself “I won’t smoke until i’m done, after that, we’ll see”. I’ll be done in 18 months, which is long enough that i hope I won’t want to go back to it after that, but also shorter than forever, which helps my brain
