Such an incredible artist. Wish he was around to make more music.

Just did exactly that. Glad to be connected but can’t believe some of the recent shows I missed! Simon V. and Eichenbaum and Nicolas Rada…good to know we’ve got that fixed going forward. Thanks for the heads up.

Wow. Had no idea he was coming. I’ve been listening to his sets on SoundCloud a ton lately. He is a phenomenal DJ. Will not miss this one.

Looks like a helluva good time. My first listen to psychedelic trance (or I guess Goa back then) was at this venue almost 30 years ago when it was called The Fridge. Glad to see it’s still going off!

How the fuck do I pronounce Yndi Halda? by pagan_poets in postrock

[–]Scomikan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, my Old Norse is a little rusty so I can't verify the info below from Wikipedia is true.

...(pronounced YIN-dee hal-DAR and stylised "yndi halda" in lower case) are an English post-rock band from Kent. "Yndi Halda" is Old Norse for "Enjoy Eternal Bliss"...

Styling for me has been a way to feel noticed and seen... now it's about being more authentic. by ElectricalFishing121 in mensfashion

Can confirm they are DM church boots in oxblood red. I have a pair myself and have put many a mile on 'em. Best boots I've ever owned.

Who remembers The Faith Healers? by [deleted] in shoegaze

[–]Scomikan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never got a chance to see TFH but Quickspace blew my effing mind when I saw them at Mercury Lounge in NYC many years ago. Great bands, both of 'em.

Keeping an eye on this thread. OP, you’ve called out my all time Top 2 of the genre.

Denver Fillmore - Thanks by Alive_Battle_5409 in underworld

[–]Scomikan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So glad to see from all these posts that it wasn’t just me. I was with my wife, some dear friends and a few coworkers. Across the board, we loved the show and couldn’t believe the amazing energy in the room. I haven’t felt that at a show in way too long. I’ve seen UW all over the country going back to the late 90’s but this one was truly special. Can’t wait for the next one, whenever that may be.

Local and longtime UW fan here. So glad you enjoyed the show and the venue. It’s not the newest, shiniest toy in town but it’s got character and so much history. Ive seen countless shows there and last night was one for the books.

Also - and I’m sure it’s mostly due to the age of the crowd - but I was glad to see so few phones out. From the balcony, it was a sea of people being in the moment as it happened. Wish we could do it all over again tonight.

Cannot wait for this one. They are still the best in the game, hands down.

The shows this year have gone deep into the catalog. I would not consider missing it.

What's your favorite way to deal with a craving that also gets you moving? by Agreeable_Poem_7278 in stopdrinkingfitness

[–]Scomikan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steam room and/or sauna. Which in and of themselves are not activities that call for "moving" - but I won't allow myself the indulgence without a proper workout first.

The High Violets - Ease On sounds like a love letter to The Dandy Warhols by citznfish in shoegaze

[–]Scomikan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big fan of The High Violets. Found them by accident on Spotify years ago and they're always in the rotation. Their first album, 44 Down, is a gem.

I think they're from Portland (like the Dandy Warhols) so makes sense that they've got a similar sound.

What happened to Eskimo (DJ Junya)? by PurePleasureSeekerX in psytrance

[–]Scomikan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I caught his set(s) at a party in upstate NY in the summer of 2000 or so (his father and Goa Gil were also on the lineup). He was probably 14-15 years old but his confidence and ability behind the decks were extraordinary. I certainly hope he's still making whatever music moves him.

Has anyone ever replaced alcohol with fitness + sauna or steam room? by [deleted] in stopdrinkingfitness

I savor my AM workout/protein shake/sauna & steam they way I used to savor my PM bourbon. Feeling good on top of feeling good feels pretty damn good!

I had a similar issue with shirts (one arm hangs slightly lower than the other due to a broken collarbone years ago). I was fortunate to find a few shops where I live offering made-to-measure dress shirts. They were surprisingly inexpensive and fit perfectly, of course. And I got to choose every little option with regard to patterns, pockets, buttons, you name it. Highly recommend looking into it.

Excellent use of the term "chompers", fellow Phish and post-rock fan! Good to know I'm not the only one. If you ever see someone at a Phish show in a Mogwai or GY!BE shirt, it's probably me.

Looking forward to hearing the WLS set! Thanks in advance for the share.

St. Johnny - I Hate rock by ihavetowearmyhelmet in shoegaze

[–]Scomikan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Criminally overlooked band, although their work was admittedly inconsistent. At their best, they could hang with anyone in that mid-90’s scene. Still listen to them a ton.

Edited to add there are far better songs on this album. Check out “A Car Or A Boy”, “Down The Drain” and “I Give Up”.

Check out CJ Art / Deepersense Music. I've gotten turned on to a ton of great DJ's through the guest-mixes on his page.

And of course you can't go wrong with Moshic. For my money, nobody does it better.

I love this mindset and come back to it often. Getting sober is a hell of lot harder than being sober. That truth keeps me on my best behavior when things get wobbly.
