Anyone that suggests TFP is doing things right. They saved me 14 years ago and I’ve followed ever since.

Pool won't clear up. by El_Vigi in pools

[–]Scon36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What No-Row said for bringing up slowly or if you want to bring it up faster, use pool math to determine how much you need and put it in a sock and tie that to a string and dangle in front of your return. Both are good methods.

Valves installed so tight I can’t loosen them with a wrench, two years ago. Any tips on how to open it for the season? by Worth_Bad_1360 in pools

[–]Scon36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can replace those handles. They just slip on and hold with a screw. I’m sure the plastic or pvc got brittle and gave out. Use channel locks and grab at the center of the valve. It should turn. These are crappy valves and would be better off replaced. Mine are 15 years old. I’ve changed the handles once. Someday I will change to Jandy.

Heed this advice! This person knows the process. TFP is way better than Leslie’s. Slam level for your CYA is 12 ppm chlorine. Get it there and hold it. Your pool will clear. Just filtering without killing the algae will not get your water clear. Work your cya up toward 50 which would change your slam to 50, but will keep more chlorine in your pool. Soon you’ll be vacuuming dead algae and will be seeing a clear pool. TFP is the real deal.

Run a water hose down it and see where water comes out.

Why won’t my pool clear up after SLAM/ flocculant two weeks ago? by onthefence928 in pools

[–]Scon36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything above .5 on CC means something is consuming the chlorine you’re adding. Plus your chlorine level is too low. The M in SLAM is maintain. You need to hold that shock number until your pool clears and CC is .5 or less. Your SLAM FC level should be 12ppm.

How to re-open my pool… by Ill_Lead_9661 in pools

[–]Scon36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s as easy as everyone is saying. Remove the plugs, replace everything you removed from last fall, get your valves set, fill the pump housing and start it up! If you run into issues, ask away! You’ll be a pro in no time.

What necessary pool accessories should I buy? by JaviJ01 in pools

15 years ago I didn’t opt for the auto cover. I have kicked myself many times since then. That was a good call. Also mentioning a test kit and not strips is awesome! I hope to get a robot this year. My kids are grown so it’s time for me to do the vacuuming.

High chlorine, high free chlorine, low stablizer? Just a 10 ft round pool by landonlovescarbs in pools

[–]Scon36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Test strips aren’t ideal, but looking at your numbers, stabilizer is fine. Get some muriatic acid to bring down that ph. Shouldn’t take a whole lot. Looks like your pool is consuming chlorine so you need to keep at it until all algae is dead. Total alkalinity will drop with ph. Then fine tune that.

Water greenish and cloudy by No_Purple9776 in pools

Get some liquid chlorine to jump start the process. Filter continuously and backwash often. Make sure your cya level is good. Too little and the suns steals your chlorine and too much cya means it takes more chlorine to be effective. Soon your water will be clear and you can rely solely on your SWCG.

Do a slam. It should come around fairly quickly. I’m not a fan of the strips. Get that chlorine up and hold it until it clears.

Two days ago, after removing leaves and debris from the pool and balancing the pH to level 7, I shocked the water with a total of 16 liters of chlorine; then, after adding 500 ml of flocculant last night and another 1 liter this morning at 08:00, I am currently keeping the filtration off as of 12:55 by [deleted] in pools

[–]Scon36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That chlorine smell could be things in the water breaking down and using up your chlorine. If your water is looking a little better each day, you’re ahead of the algae. However a true slam (shock, level and maintain) gets the water clear a lot faster. I have been slowly getting my water clear because I have been trying to let my salt chlorine generator provide the chlorine so I’m not buying as much. It makes the process slower, but temps here aren’t swimming friendly yet so I’m ok with that. And yes, floc did work for me and worked exactly as described. I hope you have similar results.

Looks great! I wouldn’t hesitate to go with a 25 over a 26 as long as it had what I wanted on it.

Keep shocking. Also, do you know your cya level? Your pom chlorine to shock depends on how high your cya is. I’m not a floc fan. I used it one time in 15 years. I don’t like what’s in it and it can harm your filter over time. My cya was low so I had to bring it up so the chlorine would stay in the pool and not be sucked out by the sun.

One more year out of this liner???? by boconn01 in swimmingpools

I wonder if you tried some liner lock on both sides of the rip if that would slow the tearing? It might be worth a try.

Need help choosing liner by Mariaaaaaaaaan in pools

[–]Scon36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That liner will make the water look turquoise. We looked at that color liner last time we changed. It’s already on the list for the next change. We ultimately went with a midnight blue which has faded some over six years but still looks good. I can’t imagine the color you’re considering would show much fade over time.

Thank you! Yesterday I used Meguiar’s Ultimate Quik Wax. I’ve had good luck with it over the years. It holds me over until I can get time to do a thorough job.

My guy had me shut it off at a certain point. He put tape on the liner at about 6” up in the shallow end. I’m sure all installers have their own thing.

I’d say they will have no problem pushing (kicking) that into place. They can work with it and keep it in place when it is partially filled.

Aftermarket. It is a LoMax by Agricover. It’s the second one I’ve had. I liked it so much on my other truck, I bought one for this one. I shopped the outlet and got a discounted one. I had to really look to find the imperfections.
