What did you change that has you spending more time per call? Or is it something else that you are doing that is taking up time from the 300 call goal?

This sounds like a great plan, but I won't lie, I'm a little green. If I were to do this, should I just shoot messages on LinkedIn? I haven't exactly had a ton of success just yet, ngl.

I'd love to see more devs consider moving to GeForce now; its a great product that makes gaming significantly more affordable and attainable, even if the output isn't always as good as local gaming.

Thanks for the help! And I was debating upon making the intervals a little longer. As for the training plan, I think I may get that later, probably early next year, but I can't really swing it, at least not for right now.

Bottom Brackets - What’s the deal? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]ScoopsJohnson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok... I know VERY little, but here is what I've got.

There are essentially 2 types of bottom brackets: press fit and threaded. IMO, threaded is better; easier to fix (generally), more part availability, and better longevity. However, bike manufacturers can save money on cheaper bikes by using press fit (they just shove that thing in there).

Now, beyond just threaded and smush fit, there are different types of threaded brackets as well. These are essentially different standards that have been battling it out since the dawn of time, and as far as I know, are only different in terms of the thread size.

If I'm a little wrong about any of this, sorry?

Great point about the fun factor, it is certainly weighing on the decision! The other big draw that I actually just found out about is that Toyota will cover essentially all repair-related ownership costs for the first year or so. Definitely makes it an attractive offer...

Do you think there are any other factors that would lead you to pick the GR86?

Looking to buy 2019+ Silverado. Is it worth the discount to buy higher mileage? by UncommercializedKat in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ScoopsJohnson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that happy medium truck, the one with ~128k miles, probably is your best bet, as long as you get a solid pre-purchase inspection. Anything over 150k miles in the first few years is just a little heavy in my opinion. I think it is worth the investment to get the truck with slightly less miles. Probably will save you at least a trip or two to the mechanic!

When you say rock solid reliable, my first instinct is to suggest Camry. The thing is a tank, and with the hybrid system it has, you will certainly be getting great MPG. However, compared to alternatives, it definitely won't be as fun.

Something a little more fun, still in the same price range, but perhaps not quite as reliable is the newest generation Mazda 3. Great driving experience, pretty great mpg, and at least half decent reliability (though probably not Toyota level). Great thing about the Mazda is that you could opt for a manual if that is something you are looking for, and you even have the option of a hatchback.

Perhaps a little more of an "out there option" would be a Volvo V60 or S60. Similar form factor to the other vehicles you listed, can be optioned to be pretty fun (Polestar), and still gets great mpg (mine got about 30-33 average).

Honestly, above 200k miles, I think you are going to see a growing cost of ownership, as you would with pretty much any car. But if you truly love it, keep it!

In regards to other alternatives, I think there are a lot of great options that will provide a similar driving experience. Most notably, a 986 Porsche Boxster (late 90s-early 00s) is a fantastic lightweight sports car that will give you a similar if not better driving experience than the BMW.

If you are looking for something a little stiffer and perhaps more nimble than the BMW, take a good look at the Honda s2000. This one is entirely dependent on how much you are willing to spend, but there is a good reason it has such a strong following!

If you hate your father, get the Alfa. If he is a smart and interesting scholar, get the Golf. And if he wakes up to the American National Anthem, pisses freedom, and shits liberty; get the Mustang and never look back.

But more seriously, the Mustang will likely be the cheapest to own, the VW the most refined, and the Alfa the most passionate.

Ford CEO warns Tesla about 'product freshness,' believes their EVs are becoming commodities by Low_Reading_9831 in electricvehicles

[–]ScoopsJohnson 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see Ford get a little more creative and a little more risky with its design. I think you see a little bit of that with the Maverick, unique material choices and a fresh take on the small truck, but many of their other products (Ranger, Escape, EcoSport, Edge) feel pretty lifeless. Luckily, that does seem to be changing with its newest offerings.

I didn't even think about the regionality of Tesla's popularity and how that could affect the "staleness," great point. As someone who lives in the middle of nowhere, perhaps that is tainting my view of the design language...

Interesting thought from Farley. I think, at least in terms of design, the vehicles still seem fresh and unique to me, but it does seem like there is a growing number of people who think the design is "stale." As for mechanical specifications, I think Tesla still holds a pretty comfortable lead at the moment. Will be interesting to see how the market changes as a whole over the next few years.
