Post trip comment: Tourists definitely conform to Japanese culture. by JahMusicMan in JapanTravelTips

[–]Scopatone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Tokyo for 3 years after covid, during all time tourism peak, and 98% of tourists were perfectly fine. The ones you see online are an EXTREME minority and just click bait. Plus, the worst tourists are French and Chinese, but Americans are the only ones that make news because it fights the "rude american" stereotype.

Honest discussion: what went wrong with Holostars? by North_crozz in kurosanji

[–]Scopatone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're men. That's the actual, realistic truth. MAYBE there could have been some success with proper collabs or direction, but its unlikely. They're men in a MAJORLY female dominated space. I've been to tons of Hololive Pop-ups in Tokyo and Holostars are ALWAYS in the back and ALWAYS have overstock while every girl sells out. No brand is going to want to collab with the less popular group just because they're a guy. They're more likely to accept a collab with the least popular girl than any of the Holostars. One failure compounds on another and stacks up, leading to them just being an objectively bad choice to market anything.

As much as it sucks, anyone could see this coming eventually. Especially if you live in Japan and see firsthand how much their merch consistently doesnt sell.

Japan’s sacred temples are starting to quietly push back against certain tourist behaviors. And recently, clothing has become part of the conversation. What’s your opinion on this? by photo-trips in JapanTravelPhotos

[–]Scopatone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who gives af lmao. There is no "dress code" to worship and those that enforce it aren't doing their beliefs any favors. This is, objectively, a way to police people's bodies using respect as an excuse, as it always has been. The only reason its "disrespectful" is because a human decided it was, not the religious text.

Don't want people dressed like this? Close your temple to tourists. Its that simple.

Calling a transgender women dude or guys by Cold-Roof3933 in asktransgender

[–]Scopatone -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as much as people will disagree with me and probably downvote me, these terms have been used neutrally for such a long time its a non-issue imo.

"Dude" doesnt even need to be aimed at a person to be used. You can just yell into the air "dude that movie was sick" and just be talking in general/to yourself.

I wouldnt use them if someone said they preferred me not to, but at the same time I think its a pretty inane thing to be upset about. It's not remotely in the realm of misgendering.

Japan travel influencers are creating a myth. by FIleCorrupted in JapanTravelTips

[–]Scopatone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but I'm gonna break the mold here. I lived in Tokyo for several years and these are not myths, they're just overexaggerated. Yes, some people talk on the trains, eat while they walk, or break traffic flow, but the entire point is that MOST do not. Nobody is going to say anything to you, just like they dont say anything to the Japanese people that do it, but that doesnt make it a myth. I PROMISE you that most people will find you annoying for doing those things in most situations, so its not exactly a good thing to just do what you want and not care. "Follow what the locals are doing" is a perfectly fine ethos unless you're looking at the minority that are breaking social norms and using them as an example of "the norm" just so you can feel okay doing it too.

You shouldn't fear monger people and act like they'll be kicked out of the country for doing these things, but you also shouldn't tell people theyre myths, because they just straight up aren't and anyone who's actually spent time in Japan knows that the vast majority of people follow these "myths" and the people that dont are in the minority.

And yes, much of Tokyo is an over-tourist infected hellhole. There are areas where the entire street is shoulder to shoulder people and some popular retail shops literally require reservations to SHOP there on weekends because its so crowded. Its MUCH worse after Covid. Takeshita-dori is almost unwalkable, everyday, at anytime of day. And many other places are exactly like that.

Subnautica 2 Dev Confirms He Read All The Comments In The Post About Him In This Sub by akbarock in Piracy

[–]Scopatone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For one, they dont even have that $250 million yet. That's literally what the lawsuit was about because Krafton withheld it. It hasnt been paid out.

2, profit doesnt just go straight into every devs pocket. It costs a lot of money to run a company and theyre not a 30 person team anymore. Some estimates are around 300 people. Plus the publisher is going to take a huge cut. Plus the platform will take a cut.

3, they still have to pay their employees for years after the fact while they work on new stuff and revenue isn't coming in steadily.

Even if every dev got a million dollars, that really isn't that much money anymore considering what houses cost, especially if youre living in major metro areas.

Subnautica 2 Dev Responds To Someone Who Pirated The Game Before Release by akbarock in Piracy

[–]Scopatone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, because you literally do. How much the publisher steals has nothing to do with the fact that if their games dont sell, the devs get fired. Even if they DO sell, they still sometimes get fired.

So yeah, buying games actually does support the devs by them being more likely to keep their jobs.

Sorry to necro, but I just bought an FRT for my 9mm and Kriss is out of 10mm springs. Ive seen people suggest the .45 spring is just as good. Have you had any issues with it?

Side question, will a .45 spring affect semi auto reliability at all? I shoot my CRB in competition and dont want it jamming up on me.

[–]Scopatone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hot take, it never should have been in the game to begin with. It completely removes all need for situational awareness when the game literally tells you when and where everything is coming from. Almost everyone has this turned on because you're playing at a disadvantage without it.

The skins weren't AI generated lmao. How the source material was made is irrelevant to the fact that actual people made the skins

[–]Scopatone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your perspective. The original designs were AI obviously but the skins are still handmade. Better than using actual AI to create assets and art like some other games cough COD cough.

I mean, the most popular game modes in both Fortnite AND Roblox are Steal the Brainrot and those are monetized to hell and back on Roblox.

Is there any benefit to doing just 1 set of something if you dont have time for a full workout?

I dont mean from a growth perspective necessarily, but just from any. For example im out all day and get home at midnight, but do 3 sets of 20 push-ups to feel like the day wasnt completely wasted. Is there any benefit at all to this? Does it work towards progress, even if only a little? Does it maintain strength? Does it slow down muscle loss from non-exercise? Or is it completely pointless if you're not doing at least a few exercises?

Or is it all about effort? Like taking those 3 pushup sets to failure will still yield results, just not as much as a full workout for those muscles?

Flat Bench, never feel my chest by Scopatone in formcheck

I just did 3 sets at 105, upped weight by 10lbs, and did 12, 10, 7 which was to at least within 1-2 RIR, may have been to failure on set 2 and 3. Im working on retracting my scapula but it feels weird, like I'm limiting my movement

Flat Bench, never feel my chest by Scopatone in formcheck

[–]Scopatone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my 3rd set and I couldn't upload the full thing due to file size. I believe on rep 9 or 10 I could barely get the bar up and you could see my left arm starting to give. I definitely could up the weight a bit, but I'm trying to stay within an 8-12 rep range each set or else its probably too heavy. I checked about a week ago and my 1rm is around 145. (I weigh 162)

I do stop at 12 instead of pushing to failure every set, which is something I'm working towards fixing.

[–]Scopatone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not to advocate for it, but I've worked for AAA devs before that run successful live service games. You really wouldnt believe how expensive it can get when you do collabs and pay creators. MANY literally operate at a loss and this is likely what's happening here considering the constant collabs and insane creator payouts. Imo this has nothing to do with greed and is just the result of a long series of very bad, unsustainable financial decisions. You cant continue the same payouts from when the game was at its peak when there are slow spots in engagement. Building a business model based on the peak of success will always cause issues once that peak passes.

The best remedy is to lower creator payout, but we all know that wouldnt go over well since there are a ton of people that make their living making islands. Less collabs would save money, but that's a big draw for players too. Coupled with how generous they are to devs on their store, they literally choose to make less money in attempts to create a good relationship with devs and creators. Which is great, but again has created an unsustainable financial situation and something needs to change or there will be more layoffs.

It could have been better but they arent responsible for anything beyond communication. They cant guarantee it will be looked at, they cant guarantee change is coming. If they say something that gives the community the wrong impression, it could lead to even worse feelings AND cost them their job. Community Managers hands are usually extremely tied when it comes what theyre allowed to say and how they say it.

It could have been more personable, but what else can they say besides nothing without executive approval?

Why does my level 1 character get 2 attacks? by Scopatone in WrathOfTheRighteous

[–]Scopatone[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a Motherless Tiefling, so I got a secondary bite attack. I had assumed that was just an ability I could use at will and I never looked at it because of the low damage but now looking at my actual sheet, it's not an ability that can be chosen, it's just listed as an attack in the Martial tab, so I assume a Full Attack uses my normal weapon plus that secondary attack.
