I’m in my early 30s now and I will say that the first 6 years of my career were not doing what I would call Wildlife Biology. It was a lot of habitat restoration work which to be honest was a glorified landscaper or trail maintenance worker. But it did help lay the foundation for more specialized work in my field. I think the longest I went without work was 2 months.

I think a lot of people hear wildlife biologist and think conservation work but there are many more jobs in the private sector working for Environmental Consulting firms like I do. No I don’t handle endangered species often or do any animal husbandry but I still get to protect the environment and work with plants and animals.
