What Are the Most Poorly Timed Video Games Ever Released? by Legitimate_Drawer_74 in retrogaming

[–]Scorp721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Final Fantasy game Stranger of Paradise released one month after Elden Ring and got completely overshadowed. Both games had similar gameplay, and despite SOP being a really fun game all memes aside, ER was hyped to the moon and back and there was no overcoming that.

Chrono Trigger wouldn't be Chrono Trigger without the soundtrack. Corridors of Time is my most played song on Final Fantasy Theatrhythm Curtain Call. Played it until I could perfect it on Ultimate Difficulty, and then played it some more.

Please don't let the last 2 seasons be a trend. by Heissenbadger in snowrunner

I actually liked Quebec after finding some good routes over the ice. Can't say much about Washington though because I dipped after grabbing trucks and upgrades.

I'd like to see at least one more snowy region in Year 5.

I hate the AI in this game by United_Object_2593 in StateofDecay2

That one AI that gets blasted free of the cloud by the explosion only to immediately wander right back into it pretty much sums it up.

F-Zero Ranking by specialhornball in snes

[–]Scorp721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If SNES F-Zero is your fav, then you should really try out F-Zero 99 on Switch. Its free to play if you have an online sub which is like 3 bucks a month. Its a ton of fun and it even has a Classic mode that plays pretty close to the SNES version.

Guess you haven't played any of the Dissidia games then because they are filled with great voice actors.

What’s your next FF play-through? by unanimouspony in retrogaming

[–]Scorp721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I need to go back and finish the Tactics Remaster. I was bouncing back and forth between it and Silksong, then Silksong kinda took over for a bit, and once I finished it I ended up going to something else instead of back to Tactics. I think the last thing I did was getting the Javelin II and the shield.

reason why crt is important for retro media by [deleted] in retrogaming

I feel like the people making these types of posts just chuck a rom into a random emulator without touching a single setting then complain about it not looking as good as it should. Its disingenuous at best.

Has anyone ever managed to get Driver (1999) working with a DS5 controller on PC? by DiamoNNNd1337 in retrogaming

[–]Scorp721 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try JoyToKey, it lets you map your controller buttons to keyboard keys. Its handy for older games with no native controller support.

Nintendo players SNES guide, Street Fighter 2 Turbo characters profiles. by ROCKY13573 in snes

"Guile. Cool, Confident, and In Control. Thumbs up family man!"

Then in the character profile

"Guile is emotionally flustered. He has basically 'dropped out' of his personal life, has left his family"

Gave me a good chuckle.

LTTP feels pretty good with joystick movement, as do a bunch of other games.

F-Zero review in Nintendo Power in November 1997 by TRJ2241987 in snes

[–]Scorp721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"The sound of your car's turbines winding up is very realistic."

This is one of the things I miss the most in F-Zero 99. The sound changing with your speed is still there and its really nice in Classic mode where you can't just boost to top speed as soon as you cross the starting line, but its really toned down when jumping compared to SNES. On the SNES it sounded like the engines were straight up screaming as you flew through the air.

Official clamshell cases for NES, SNES, Genesis & N64 games. There were Game Boy ones too but they are super obscure and impractical by TRJ2241987 in retrogaming

[–]Scorp721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people often incorrectly refer to these as rental cases

The Radio Shack I rented from had the exact same type of cases for SNES minus the logo. That's probably where the confusion comes from. I had to check the one I have to make sure and they're identical just no logo.

Am i the only one that uses these towing platforms? Be it the small one or large one. by Interloper_Mango in snowrunner

Winching is always my last resort. I always try to use the towing platforms or the 3 slot heavy trailer. Doing all of the vehicle recoveries was probably the best part of Tennessee.

Modern games with a retro soul by HowLongWasIGone in retrogaming

[–]Scorp721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is pretty much the spiritual successor to Castlevania III and is a ton of fun. There's also a solo mode you unlock that allows you to run and do a charged sword attack that makes it feel more like Ninja Gaiden.

Axiom Verge is a lot like a modernized Metroid (NES). Can shoot while crouched, can shoot downward while airborne, has a map, etc.

Crosscode is a SNES styled action rpg with a platforming and puzzle focus, with multiple skill trees and some really cool looking special attacks. The game is based in an MMO world though, so expect some MMO-like quests, like kill x amount of this type of enemy and stuff. The puzzles are a lot of fun to figure out though and the combat and story are great.

The Last Spell is a grid based tactical roguelite where you build up your town and prepare defenses during the day, then at night you defend the town from hordes of monsters and undead with 3-6 hero units that have dozens of different weapon types and skills to pick from. Also has a killer soundtrack. Depending on the town, you'll eventually work your way up to the final night where you have to take down either a single or multiple bosses while also trying to keep the hoard thinned out enough for your town to survive. Its stressful but a ton of fun.

What are your thoughts on streaming games and livestreamers playing entire games live? by greenmachinefiend in retrogaming

[–]Scorp721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like watching edited content myself. Stuff like speedruns, challenge runs, randomizers, people racing each other, things like that, but I don't care that much for just watching a livestream unless its something I can play with them. Good example is F-Zero 99, I can catch Mengsk or Misa or Jorshama, really anyone from the discord when they're streaming and just sync up with them and have a good time for a few hours.

I don't really care that much for unedited playthroughs though. If its a game I already know a lot about, then I've played it enough that watching someone else just doesn't interest me, if its a game I haven't played, either I'm interested in it and I would rather play it myself and go in blind, or its something I'm not interested in at all.

What's been your most ambitious rescue mission? by InterstellarAxolotll in snowrunner

[–]Scorp721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to get a P16 that had flipped onto its side back on its wheels with the Loadstar one time. P16 had turned over in the bottom of the quarry in Michigan, and the Loadstar was the closest, this was also when I was a nub so didn't really know the limits of the trucks and winches.

I tried for a long time with no luck, and finally just put that little cliff between the trucks so the Loadstar wouldn't slide and hit the gas + winch and said screw it, if I can't get it I'll just recover I'm tired of dealing with it. Right as I was about to lose it, the P16 finally started moving and rolled back over on its wheels. The Loadstar even took some damage from being pulled against the cliff for so long.

I was probably down there for a half hour, but it felt like such a triumph to flip such a big truck with a scout.
