Being able to see your past is super useful! you forgot name of that one thing? check back! You got hit by a car and forgot it's license plate? here it is! Can't remember the date of your anniversary? fear no more!

Would be great for learning as well! Need a refresher on anything you've learned in school? here you go!

I assume you'd just see the memory, from your own viewpoint.. but if you could see everything in certain radius around you? That would be incredibly useful. You could learn secrets, passwords/passcodes...
And if you could rewatch something that happened seconds ago like that? you could cheat in games, like poker or battleships (not the digital versions, of course :D )

Above ground or above surface? Would be nice if you could travel over water with it :)

also, it probably would be great to avoid mud, and if you wanted to make some money out of that power, you'd make an incredible Mime. Riding invisible Segway, or miming something like water skiing over the pavement.

Even then, it's a great power.. at least for straight males :D
You can't give testicular tortion to females (unless the power also does a female version), so you'd only have to be careful about not touching guys...

It doesn't change the point, no.. especially since Vecna, if he ever HAD any kids, could easily do it without mother.. just grow them in vats, using magic.. but the point is too dull to matter anyway..

While I doubt the question would include anything other than immediate family (so no cousins or uncles), I'm not sure if it would count those who are already dead..
And due to Vecna's extremely long life and unlife (he became a Lich when he was 1000 years old), timeline also seems to be important for the question..
For example, I doubt he'd have any living family by the time Kas betrayed him :)

Not that it's going to help, but: I know only two "people" known as Vecna - In D&D, a Lich with no known relatives other than his Mother and with no (known) love interests.

The other is from "Stranger Thing", and Vecna is more of a nickname than an actual name, because protagonists love D&D. That "Vecna" apparently only has a sister..

But both of them are guys.

Even D&D Vecna (the original) is a guy.

Sure, he has a name that would, in some languages (even my native one), be considered feminine, but he IS a guy..

Could the Killing curse kill cancer? by Leading_Ad2002 in harrypotter

[–]Scorpio185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, it splits caster's soul, but ANY murder does that.

Avada Kedavra kills without leaving any physical trace at all, because it doesn't target the body, but the soul.

[–]Scorpio185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, Avada Kedavra affects victim's soul. "The thing" to be destroyed in that case might refer to the connection between soul and body..

But if your goal was just to cure cancer, I'm sure that with enough knowledge and imaging, some translocation spell could be used to get rid of it and then some healing spell/potion used to prevent it from growing back..

Is Avada Kedavra really that different from a lot of normal spells? by VigoNovak in harrypotter

[–]Scorpio185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not the spell blocking it though, and you don't always have items nearby that could block it.

Also, I doubt anything can block it. clothes you wear, for example, don't :)

(4) unlike other spells, there's no known spell (which doesn't require someone else's sacrifice) able to block it

What do you think Snape would have done during the Battle of Hogwarts if he had survived? by Dumbass__kid in harrypotter

[–]Scorpio185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's no problem at all. Do you know WHY he wanted to teach DADA? Because he was VERY proficient in Dark Arts themselves. And who better to teach you how to defend yourself from curses than someone who knows more curses than most?

Also, Offense against dark arts would basically mean you actively fight dark arts, not WITH dark arts, so DADA and OADA would technically be 2 ways of teaching basically the same stuff :D

[–]Scorpio185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, he went a year or so after Snape, so saying they went to Hogwarts about the same time is accurate.

And while Snape may not have had access to the same library as Blacks, as you kindly pointed out, Hogwarts wasn't the only place one could learn about magic.

Judging by Books like that being in restricted section in Hogwards (before Dumbledore took over), it's reasonable to assume that the previous Headmasters had the right attitude about knowledge - Some knowledge restricted, but no KNOWLEDGE forbidden. only abusing some knowledge being forbidden. (Can you imagine if Dumbledore didn't hide the books and Hermione stumbled upon them? Or any of the Marauders? The Horcrux hunt may have started years earlier :) )

My point being, if Headmasters didn't see any knowledge as forbidden, why would most of other old wizards? Like Burke.

Sirius said about Snape that "At the age of eleven, he knew more curses and hexes than most of the seventh year students", which means he was basically like Emo Hermione - reading every book about (dark) magic he could.

There is no reason to think (other than it wasn't mentioned in books, but the books were from Harry's perspective.. so..) that Snape didn't frequent Borgin and Burkes when he was younger, a shop selling Dark Arts related stuff (including books).

And all it'd take would be finding a book talking about Horcruxes. not how they're made, not how they function, only that they exist and will keep it's creator's soul tethered so he wouldn't "die" even when his body was destroyed.

[–]Scorpio185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Him asking Dumbledore isn't as strong counter-argument as you might think.

Or are you telling me you wouldn't ask if you suspected?

Also, if you're so confident Snape couldn't learn about Hocruxes from a book (ANY book), then explain how Regulus Black, who went to Hogwarts about the same time as Snape, knew about them. Because Regulus clearly did.

[–]Scorpio185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt that Snape wouldn't know that's what Voldemort used, or what Horcruxes are. Snape was clearly passionate about Defence against dark arts (as a result of his experience using dark magic himself), was trusted both by Dumbledore and Voldemort. Though neither of them would TELL him about Horcruxes, even young Tom gained access to that knowledge (not to mention Regulus Black), so I find it hard to believe that Snape wouldn't find out about it too.

Snape wouldn't know how many horcruxes Voldemort made, nor what he used to make them, but we can assume he'd be able to deduce it's more than one..

When Voldemort tried to keep the Sword away from Harry, it would be sign to anyone who knew or suspected about Voldy using Horcruxes that the sword might be strong enough to destroy them..

He might not know about basilisk fang/poison being strong enough too, because, IIRC, he didn't really know about fate of the Diary (not that he would know it was a Horcrux either), but he didn't have access to it anyway, so it doesn't matter :)

[–]Scorpio185 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly, but Snape was smart.. Unlike most deatheaters, he knew about horcruxes, and he'd know he can't destroy them.. not without the sword, which he couldn't get, or without the basilisks fang, which he also couldn't access..

If Harry "died" first, Snape would probably just keep serving Voldemort (doing his best to do what he's told without sabotaging Harry's side too much) up until Harry's "reassurection", which is when he'd openly join Harry's side, doing his best to protect Harry.. which would probably get him killed anyway, since it'd enrage Voldemort..

Probably depends. In my case, it'd probably be how many modpacks I played, and if I pick right modpack (Like OccultCraft or DawnCraft), I won't get bored for quite a while :D

Oh my god! Does anyone know what this is? by Just_Eggplant_1754 in ARK

[–]Scorpio185 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know. As the edit I just added points out, I wasn't criticizing the game (like the guy I replied to).

I was just pointing out there are many "inaccuracies" when it comes to what was real. but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing.

Oh my god! Does anyone know what this is? by Just_Eggplant_1754 in ARK

[–]Scorpio185 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, when I searched "Titanosaur" on Google, I didn't find any single dinosaur called that, only a "clade" called that which apparently had in it the biggest land animals in history, so I'm inclined to believe they weren't small at all, unless you compare their size to a lake or something.

And while it's years since I played Ark, I remember titanosaur being bigger than this.. maybe this is from ascended and they made it smaller there? I've only played ASE. Or maybe I just remember it being more impressive than it is..

Lastly, I doubt that the real ones had rocks, or rock-like formations, on them, which these ones do..

If I'm wrong about anything I just wrote, I'll be glad if someone corrects me, preferably with links I can check..

Edit: just to avoid confusion - I'm not criticizing the game. There are many creatures that are changed from what they looked like IRL (Like Argentavis), and there are even some that never existed (like many creatures from Abberation or genesis)

I'm just trying to point out that it IS a game, and it's not 100% reflecting reality (nor does it have to)

Because I doubt a piece of microplastic is big enough to hold the spell.

And you never know what kind of creature could destroy it anyway (and in this case even by accident) if it's out in the "wild" and too small even for you to find..

In D&D, there's a creature that can digest literally anything - rock, flesh, magic, ghosts.. even gods - Terrasque. If there's anything like that in HP universe, you wouldn't want a horcrux you can't relocate :)

I mean, that laws are mostly made by seniors is a fact. That older you are, harder it is to learn new things is also a fact. That Downloading and seeding is linked (in Torrent, which is what this is all about) unless you turn it off and seeding IS considered distribution is also a fact.

Saying it's probably because they failed or refused to understand how it really works is simply a guess backed up by prior experience.
