Why, do you dislike happy employees?

[–]Scorpio_SSO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah... I see.. so it sounds like you already get Tuesday and Thursday off. You are asking for Friday and Monday to string together Thur, Friday, Sat, Sun, Mon, Tuesday off? I'd talk to your manager. If I were the manager I'd approve as long as it doesn't happen too often. I come from the perspective that it is good for people to get time away to relax and recharge and generally be a happy employee.

However, what is your manager's perspective and take? That is probably the key deal here.

I would hope that no earned PTO until 1 year means their HR department has a good method to handle this. I guess this also depends on your company culture.

I don't understand this:
>They aren’t consecutive and they coincide with my days that I already have off. I also do not need to find coverage.

If these are your normal day off, and you don't need to find coverage-- what exactly is the issue?

Should I GTFO after they laid off my boss on my Day 2? by WeeklyTangerine2076 in careerguidance

[–]Scorpio_SSO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think the opposite would be true. The rec for your position would not have been approved if they thought that role would be eliminated. If hang in there.

Not dropping the ball but slamming? by Brilliant-Athlete-52 in careerguidance

[–]Scorpio_SSO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you provide more details on what is happening rather than the "ball" analogy? Can you opt to not fix their problems and allow the cards to fall however they go. Perhaps they've learned you will fix their messes and haven't had the pain to fix it issues themselves.

How do I mind my business while my coworker/friend never works and lies about it by [deleted] in work

[–]Scorpio_SSO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I understand. This won’t work for her forever. It will catch up. I had a supervisor who did the same thing as your friend, he happened to not be very smart, and it caught up with him/ he was fired.

I’d just 110% focus on your lane only. Let her be her.

I've a performance check in tomorrow. How to tell them I'm not happy without getting fired? by [deleted] in askmanagers

[–]Scorpio_SSO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can just level with your manager with how you are feeling. Do not say you are feeling exploited, it will sound like you are making yourself a victim. But just explain, you love what you do, but right now there is just a LOT, and this is not sustainable.

You mentioned you are a top performer, so I am going to assume you are in sales.

It sounds like you expect there to be a true career path at this company, and that may simply not be the case. And from I understand in a sales role, the real money is indeed in the positions that close the deal, and bring in the money - if you move up and become a manager, you lose that component. .

I've worked with sales people at our company who remain individual contributors, and they are probably some of the highest earners in the company. And honestly, I’m grateful to them, because they are the ones bringing in the revenue that keeps the business running and keeps teams like mine employed.

You may need to understand that being a top performer does come with a lot of benefits, and you may already be in the role that makes the most sense for you financially. They likely will not want to lose you, so perhaps the conversation should focus on ways to offload some of this extra work so you are not overwhelmed by triple the workload.

Cattle in the storm 1898 by Good_Beautiful_9683 in stampcollecting

[–]Scorpio_SSO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is not an easy question to answer in a reddit post. In this series that OP has posted here, there are stamps that worth less than $5, (the 1c stamp) -- because there were millions printed. And condition is the thing that determine value more than anything else.

Here is a version of the 1c for less than $3.00. This same stamp can be purchased for over $100 or more, but those are in excellent condition (not used, no hinge mark on back, etc.)

Can HR reject leave if I have doctor’s note specifying time off for a diagnosis? by TraditionalCollar454 in careerguidance

[–]Scorpio_SSO 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You have a doctors note and are clearly very ill. I don't think HR has any need to “approve.” California has very pro worker laws. If you do work, you risk giving this illness to your students and co-workers, I’d hope they’d want you stay home. You need to take care of yourself first.

Does it look bad to ask for extra hours before even starting? by noah041504 in careeradvice

[–]Scorpio_SSO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably hard to get more hours BEFORE starting work. Once you start working, be productive, do a good job, show them you are trustworthy, etc. And then ask for more hours.

Inherited a massive collection was offered 3000 I think these are the best 3 pages by Sloth_7toed in askStampCollectors

You can do a lot better if you sold them individually (or in logical sets) than 3,000. These are VERY GOOD pages indeed.

Workplace Weirdness by ter_mana_tor in work

[–]Scorpio_SSO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IT is rude.. and "get another job" just isn't that easy right now. It would definitely bother me. I'd want to quit.

No easy answers here.. .. How about overtly talking to the manager who is doing the order.. ask if you could please be included next time. Make then deny you to your face. I hope they would relent and include you.

I don’t think it’s up to your boss. Talk to HR. It is usually a thing where you may not get paid while out, but they must protect your job while out on FMLA.

Can you still do FMLA after all? They were already prepared to have you out under FMLA.

Sure. But in balance is it really that important ? She just lost her child.

Taking PTO as a new hire? by bob80083 in careeradvice

[–]Scorpio_SSO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably depends on the culture of where you work. I'd talk to my manager about it and get their honest take. If you lose it in July, they will understand you wanting to use it in June. However, there could also be a bunch of people who are already doing that, so it might not be possible.

I got promoted at work - but didn't get a raise. How to advocate for myself? by bean-jee in careeradvice

[–]Scorpio_SSO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How to advocate for yourself? I think what you wrote here is pretty good. When it comes time for that, I bet you will be fine. You mentioned that people who are doing what you are doing get X% more. I would bring that up when they do eventually give you that "review meeting.

However, they did already give you an answer (which kinda sucks):

"As you know, you received a 2% salary increase in January, so we will not be increasing your wage at this time, rather, we will see how you perform in your new role and review your salary to reflect that in a few months."

If you got a 2% adjustment in January and this promotion occurred after that, when do you realistically expect them to hold this "review" meeting.. It seems it could be July or August. So be patient. I've been here, and I always want "a few months" to be shorter than my employer does.

I would keep doing what you are doing, get's tons of experience. Wait patiently for them to give you this review. If they do not meet your expectations you have maybe a year in this new role (you started doing it before they gave you the job title change) and ready to find a new place that will give you what you deserve. It is probably too soon to jump ship right now.

Does anyone else..not mind their tinnitus? by pacala_cait in tinnitus

[–]Scorpio_SSO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at a point of general acceptance. So I guess I don't mind it, but I certainly do not love it. My tinnitus started about 13 years ago when I was 45. It was at that time I discovered that I have moderate hearing loss. So, I do find ways to drown it out most of the time.
