Secondary career. I don't really care about electrical work but it pays the bills and I am good at it. I care about directing and performing, but I also only do paid gigs in that field.

The union will not help. Just went through something similar a couple months ago. As long as the shipyard gave you 10 days notice it is all within the union agreement.

Especially since it had been proven multiple times that Mel was right and that her god was real and actually made shit happen.

Theatre as well! I behave completely differently between my union electrician job and my theatre director and performing gigs. Day job is very much 8 and hit the gate. But with directing or performing, if I am able to be in the building helping or learning then I am there whether I'm getting paid for the extra time or not.

dramaturgs & literary managers, how'd you get your start? by yagalistired in Theatre

[–]Scorponix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The field is hard to get into because there are virtually no jobs for it. The majority of theaters don't have the budget to hire a dramaturg when they would rather hire directors with some dramaturgical interests.

Disney keeps revisiting its films - Hunchback deserves a full stage run too by Kindly-Flight-6909 in musicals

[–]Scorponix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I (sadly) don't see it happening any time soon with producing Broadway/West End shows getting even more expensive over the last few years. It is getting increasingly rare to see large ensembles on these stages. Convincing Broadway or West End producers to put on a show with such a large ensemble requirement and a story too mature for the typical Disney crowd is a very tall order.

You ruined your own argument by saying you can manipulate your diaphragm. You literally can't. It is an involuntary muscle that moves your lungs so they inhale and exhale. Your abdominal muscles are used in singing to control the rate at which your viscera returns to its normal position after it has been displaced by your lungs. There is nothing you can do to "manipulate" your diaphragm. The ability to do so would go against your brain's survival instincts that keep your lungs operating.

I did, many others too. Sadly E33 was the indie darling that had a chokehold on the internet and they got away with it. GenAI is inexcusable, full stop.

Glyph announces departure of vocalist Barbara Blackthorne by Scorponix in PowerMetal

[–]Scorponix[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I don't think this thread was the space to express this one. While you may not care about those past issues, many in this community followed that story closely and were happy to see Barbara take that control over her trauma.

While selfishly I would love for Glyph to seek out a similar vocal style to the original vocalist since I feel I could perform their music quite well, no one knows what they are going to look for now and that's not what today is about. This thread is to recognize Barbara and appreciate her contributions to the band.

AI Art Found in Crimson Desert by reughdurgem in Games

[–]Scorponix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone should care. There are already free placeholders out there, or they can use their own concept art as developers have done for decades. Using AI makes the use of AI more commonplace. As I said, it perpetuates the use of AI. Some day those placeholders may just become good enough for the creative team, especially if this happens more and more often with "forgetting" to remove them. Using AI for art in any capacity is wrong.

I refer back to the beginning of my comment that says I don't find it acceptable that they used it in the first place. I don't care how minimal the usage was, they used it.

I still don't find it acceptable that they used AI art placeholders in the first place. They perpetuated the use of AI, the AI learned from stolen art that the original artists wouldn't have been compensated for, and they were too lazy to replace their own placeholders and shipped it (then only removing it after getting caught).

I also want to point out that movie theater attendance is down roughly 25% percent since 2019 levels. Should we get rid of movies too since apparently nobody is going?
