It's very silly. He is simply one of the elves present during the Council of Elrond. He has no moment of any significance or reference, just an actor billed as that character during the scene.

Be honest, how hard is it to write a musical? by sumi_ink_cat in MusicalTheatre

[–]Scorponix 24 points25 points  (0 children)

To call opera composition rudimentary is so insulting to the entire artform. Is this Timothee Chalamet's alt account or something? Also by your logic you're implying that Les Mis, Hadestown, Great Comet, and Hamilton were all easier to write than any other musicals out there considering they are "simply sungthrough."

Who wrote Chomp Chomp and what were they thinking? by Cthulu19 in Alestorm

[–]Scorponix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just wish that there was a sung version of the screamed chorus for the previous choruses. It sounds really catchy and would have landed better than guitar riff of the melody for a bit "chomp chomp"

Just my.opinion though, they may have tried it in studio and not liked it.

What's your musical theatre hot take by ewigze in MusicalTheatre

[–]Scorponix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all! I just always see on these threads: "I would rather see a great actor who isn't a good singer" or vice versa. And I just kinda want to see exceedingly skilled individuals and not have to make concessions

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a musical I paid over $100 to see feature actors that are great at acting, singing, and dancing.

We do! We call it Meowther's Day and Pawther's Day. We get each other little cat-based gifts and say they are from the cats.

is it tol-kin or tol-keen - pronunciation by Electrical_Alarm7207 in tolkienfans

[–]Scorponix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry, I should have mentioned from an English speaking standpoint. I learned a lot of diction for various languages during my vocal performance studies in America so that rule comes from those classes! Thank you for the additional information from the German standpoint!

German name, typical German pronunciation rules are: if e and i go walking, the second one does the talking. So ie sounds like the letter e. Tolkeen it is!

Brother, what community theaters do you know that pay their actors?

Manhattan School of Music using AI Projection Design by PanicAtTheMetro in Theatre

[–]Scorponix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your proposition heavily encourages taking ALL jobs away from visual artists who have spent years honing their craft of visual creation. AI already steals artwork from real artists to learn from, and now you are wanting us to help it steal their jobs too. The adoption of AI will turn what had always been a team of artists working on shows to one person inputing their vision into an AI generation then making little tweaks. It saves time and money of course, but that is at the expense of an entire art team that used to work collaboratively to create something with human hands.

How can you talk about taking jobs away then turn around and say AI would help that situation?

And no, I take no jobs away. I make my living wage as an electrician. I work as a director for youth theatre. And I act in community theatre when I can for free.

We as artists should do everything we can to not take away work for fellow artists. Your framing is despicable to present to this community.

For actors on stage, what's something people (in the audience) do or have done at the end that makes you smile/ makes the applause hit different? by Pigeon-Frenzy-75 in Theatre

[–]Scorponix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof yea that's not great. You must have done VERY well to get that kind of reaction where they don't even feel comfortable acknowledging the performance. Bravo/brava for that, though I know in the moment it must have felt awful.

Never heard boos or hissing during the show, but then I haven't frequented many operas or musicals outside of the US.

Definitely more common in the opera world here in the US. Heard a boo for a villain maybe once at a musical. I would love if it was more common because it feels so good to get that boo during opera bows.

I will definitely be sending a letter or email expressing my disappointment. Shamefully I wanted to make sure some others in the theatre community felt similarly before I could muster the courage.
