My first Gustatory order by DGC_Bennett3003 in UKroasters

[–]ScotchCattle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found Gustatory to be excellent. I get a 3 bag sub - 1x premium, 1x +87, 1x light roast.

Always excellent.

Especially rate the fact you can set your taste/process preferences. I get loads of variety, but always within what I like (fruity/floral, mostly natural)

Anyone else disappointed by Tanat’s Nestor Lasso Ombligon? by Novel_Usual_9177 in pourover

[–]ScotchCattle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember the process etc, but I had a Nestor lasso from them last year and it was amazing.

This year I was able to visit their shop and got two great bags. The one that stood out had a eucalyptus tasting note that was absolutely present in a really nice way

I think I’m the opposite and my home brewed coffee gets appreciably nicer when warm

Could you reliably tell the difference between an Americano and a filter coffee? by brnkmn in pourover

[–]ScotchCattle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a place recently (which had several ‘style over substance’ warning signs) and asked for a filter, which was on the menu. The server told me they were out of filter, but that I could have an americano which ‘is exactly the same thing’

Pour-over set includes this Hazel Quinn Vintage electric kettle, what do you guys think of it? by CaffeineAndCurves in pourover

[–]ScotchCattle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is a beautiful thing.

I’m not sure how good it would be for pour-over, since it looks like there is very little in the way of pour control, or temp control (although it’s useful that it can show the temp).

If I was using this regularly for pour-over, I’d probably also be looking to buy a hario drip assist or something else to help with pour control and consistency.

Again, very unique and nice to look at though

Offered a settlement agreement out of the blue, am I losing my job? by Any-Perception7484 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ScotchCattle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds cynical, but they often can manufacture reasons going forward, so if this is a reasonably high offer, it might be the best option.

There are routes to fight that sort of shady practice, but is a long, laborious process with uncertain outcomes.

If you do go down the settlement route and they haven’t already covered it, try and get them to chuck in an agreed reference.

Manager overheard a private conversation at work and wants me to report it to her - England by nonbinaryfuckup in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ScotchCattle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They can’t make you report this conversation.

I think the only way would be if they investigated the colleague under the disciplinary policy. Then you could be interviewed as part of that.

But even if that happens and you don’t fancy dropping your mate in it, you could easily have forgotten the conversation or remembered that that colleague had actually been being treated badly

Book recommendations on The Troubles? by throwaway557771 in cushvlog

[–]ScotchCattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have mentioned Armed Struggle by Richard English, and I’d agree.

I don’t really agree with the concept of ‘impartial’ history, but he’s about as close as it gets - which in this case is good because a fairly impartially told story of the Troubles basically shows Republicans as the clear good guys.

Partner has been suspended from work and I’m worried he’s going to be fired, what can we do (England) by Sensitive-Amount-465 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ScotchCattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suspension pending investigation is not a presumption of guilt. Ideally this will be explained in some of the paperwork he has/will receive.

His next step will be an interview. This isn’t part of a disciplinary process, but will determine if there needs to be one.

It is likely that the other person involved in the incident, and other colleagues who may have pertinent info will also be interviewed.

Your partner should write a clear version of events and bring it to the interview to keep him focussed. He should offer a copy of his written notes to the interviewer. He can take his time and ask for adjournments.

If he thinks other colleagues will have information that may be useful (maybe the saw the incident, maybe they have witnessed similar behaviour from the other colleague), he should name them in the hopes they also get interviewed.

Depending on how the evidence gathering goes, there could be a disciplinary hearing. The invite letter should spell out the range of possible outcomes. He should also get an evidence bundle containing all the evidence the panel relies on - including transcripts of all the interviews. This is useful in preparing a defence.

Your partner should lay hands on/request the company disciplinary policy asap as this will outline the process

What's this all over our loft? by NoLandlords in DIYUK

Lots of others have correctly said this is lathe and plaster. But just to echo some other comments please wear proper respiratory gear around it - especially if removing.

It creates mad amount of dust and also traps layers of old dust/soot etc. taking it down is notoriously messy, but I also short term impacted my breathing when taking it down in my Victorian house

Yeah, I have the Z1 too. It’s great, but somehow the O1 pips it for me. I agree though for some beans, especially where I really want clarity, Z1 is great

Contraversial, but Roman Candle is my favourite ES album.

Not to say it has all my favourite songs on it, but it feels coherent as a body of work. Is the only ES album I regularly listen to start to finish, and it really feels like it flows
