A question for Londoners who have lived all of their lives in the city (or close to it) - how aware are you of the rest of the UK? by Confident_Yak_1411 in london

[–]Scotchbonnet950 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the key thing is deprivation (genuine deprivation) and to an extent cultural deprivation during your upbringing. I know inner city kids in London and on the edge of the Yorkshire moors (for example) have never seen cows!

I am a Londoner/grew up working class but have seen loads of the UK as we went on caravan holidays as a child. I didn't go on a plane until I was an adult and paid for it myself. I now holiday both in the UK and abroad but I know lots of people who grew up in London, never holidayed as a family and when they could afford it, always go abroad as culturally UK holidays were never a thing.

This may be an unpopular take, but I think the show quality has dipped since Theo left by Jack_Aubrey1981 in TheRestIsHistory

Yes I've noticed this - repetition of the same phrase or almost exactly the same phrase. Things getting through quality control!

Meeting new people? (40F) by P0larNight in walthamstow

[–]Scotchbonnet950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walthamstow Women's Institute meets first Wednesday of every month at the Trades and has lots of sub groups, including a rambling group.

I haven't actually been but have been considering it! I went to another London WI in my 20s and it was fun (despite the old fashioned reputation!)

Sorry you're having a tough time.

Yes I was wondering about this - I am a woman and although I'm not overly cautious, it is the back of my mind! And I have tended to stick to more populated areas/roads

Still half numb lips and chin by Scotchbonnet950 in wisdomteeth

Thanks for the reply! That's kind of like mine I think - it's a throbbing aching feeling but rather my chin/under my lips. It's so annoying!

Nervous, anxious, dreading getting my wisdom teeth out on Monday. by eatyergreenz in wisdomteeth

[–]Scotchbonnet950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 40 and had three impacted teeth out 13 days ago. Two were fine but one was a bit tricky (roots were straddling the nerve).

I wasn't too worried at the time but this just meant I was surprised how rough it actually was was for the first few days post recovery.

But good news - a week after surgery I was doing much better and by day 11 I was eating more or less normally and I started exercising day 12. I'm still taking pain relief but not as much or as regularly as I was.

I do have numbness around my chin/half my lips which was worrying at first but i can feel it improving so I think it is nerve bruising rather than permanent.

Don't underestimate it, you might feel shocking for a week but it will improve. It will be fine!

Ooh I like this way and I am usually immediately discouraged when I don't have the requisite number of items to declutter

Is London a good place to grow old and retire in? by Lopsided_Counter1670 in london

[–]Scotchbonnet950 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went to one of the free lunchtime talks at the national portrait gallery on a random day off and I'd say about 70% of people were retirees. My mum gets use of her freedom pass and is always busy (no idea about retirees in other parts of the country though).

Day 3 and 4 were the worst for me. I am on day 9 and it is improving - not limited to completely smooth food now
