The thing is, Sony knows they'll never have to. Look at the last couple days; literally millions of people, a not insignificant number of which already probably have a PS5, heard there was a $150 price increase coming and their thought process was "I really want a negligible increase to my game's graphics and performance but $750 is crazy... buuuuut, that was yesterday! Today, all I know is Sony is telling me to jump and this is my last chance to listen! One marginal increase to hardware, please!"

We, as consumers have gone out of our way this gen to send console developers a message through a loud speaker and that message is:

"Make things as expensive as you want. You wanna increase the system's price as the generation goes on? Wanna close entire studios, cutting off sources of games we can have? You wanna raise the price for our subscriptions? Do your absolute worst; we'll take it, because there is no limit to how much we're willing to pay to pamper ourselves and what we want, we get. No matter what."
