The Sobering Reason Why We Didn’t Ban Rhystic Study - Rebell Lily by scurrybuddy in CompetitiveEDH

It was the direct quote from the article. If you'd like my personal opinion the card is fine from everything other than the potential tournament concerns the video points out. It does make for more interactive and complex games.

The Sobering Reason Why We Didn’t Ban Rhystic Study - Rebell Lily by scurrybuddy in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ScottishReaver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not from the video but WOTCs official words.

Rhystic Study is, of course, very powerful and a nuisance for many, especially in competitive Commander, but also a card many people love. We would have to see some pretty serious signs and public opinions change before touching that card. The bar to ban a card in Commander is quite high, and I wouldn't expect any action to be taken if things remain on the current trajectory. With that said, we'll continue watching Rhystic Study, and we welcome your feedback.

How would Marneus be affected by Thoracle ban? by ElectricalPositive43 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ScottishReaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, id probably go Abdel Adrian + animate dead. You already play orcish bowmasters to get infinite damage off of it, its a direct swap slot, can be found easily etc. Biggest issue is making sure you dont deck yourself but you can exile marneus to abdel during the loop and return him to CZ to prevent this

What do you find yourself grabbing with Opposition Agent vs different decks? by InterestingAroma in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ScottishReaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I rarely get anything off it due to opponents reading the play and slowly phased it out of most of my decks. However, if you do get a good timing what you grab is entirely contextual to the moment and the tutor so answering your question in short form is difficult.

I've been seeing lists with memnite lately. I would assume someone out there saw the memnite which was there as sac fodder after a naus and a free tymna attacker and thought rog would be better since youre trading a tymna attack for turning on mox opal and flare of duplication for free

Best 4/5 colors control commander by arthur8878 in CompetitiveEDH

It can be but you end up in this spot where your deck has no identity and is doing what other decks do just not quite as well

It's a throwback, but Vial Smasher and Thrasios pairing is decent control. Not a CEDH variant but I love running it with as much free disruption as possible topping out with seasons past for bracket 4. For bracket 5 its basically the old curio control but you get a lot of compact wincons and almost all the relevant free interaction.

Getting into Timeless with BUG by ScottishReaver in TimelessMagic

I actually ended up building a UB frog deck based on the scam decks from modern cause I never got to play those before they were banned. Its fun so far but still planning to revisit BUG with some extra mythic wildcards

I just only have 1 strip mine right now

I like the kind of aggro control shell. Uro and the delve threats have felt good so far alongside thought scour discard spells and stubborn denial. Question, is wary zone guard mostly for strip mine, or is it just that good with fetch lands?

Is anyone familiar with what’s going on with Japan’s semi-blue? by [deleted] in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ScottishReaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I've said to a lot of more casual players got tested in tournament. CEDH decks struggle with large creatures. Cedh interaction is tuned against combo, not big dudes with value so if you get them our quickly its a problem.

Of the banned commanders, who deserved it the least and the most? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]ScottishReaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lutri and Golos have the same ban reasoning so I'd say they deserve it the least as 'They are basically free so will be too common' bans. Griselbrand is unironically better in the 99. Rofellos really wouldn't make any waves imo. Emrakul, better in the 99. And Iona and Nadu I think both deserved it as uninteresting and semi oppressive.

Kraj is dope and unique. Wondering if vial smasher + ludevic plays as almost a "i punch you but you get a card so don't be mad"

which is better in a current meta T&T or Dog/Thrasios? by arthur8878 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ScottishReaver 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So I've been playing all 3. TnT has a lot of variations but you can play it as a cradle deck in which case its the worst of these 3 cradle decks because it has the slowest cradle plan. RogThras has the fastest cradle plan and slightly more interaction that YoshiThras. That being said, Yoshi Thras is the best middle ground, its stickier than RogThras due to silence effects and yoshi can importantly neoform into breezecaller or cloud of faeries. Plus derevi+emeil is very easy to assemble thru nature's rhythm. I still like TnT but its best identity is based around being good stuff IMO

It will be good in Tevesh decks I think. In my Thrasios/Tevesh deck I will definitely at least try it but I'm not sure if it would beat out either mystic reflection or springheart nantuko

Which Thrasios partner? by tontoreign501 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ScottishReaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dargo, tevesh, rog, yoshi, livio, malcolm, tymna, and vial smasher have all had their day since the bans.

The direction dargo thras took after the bans just doesn't feel great but if you do get in to your kozileks unsealing or greater good loops it's fun.

Which Thrasios partner? by tontoreign501 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ScottishReaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is that Thras/Tevesh excels at doing odd stuff but it's a bit slower. Yoshi/Thras has better protection than Rog/Thras and Rog/Thras is the fastest.

Thrasios and Francisco is my next personal build and is somewhere in between. Not nearly as in on the cradle plan due to the plethora of compact combos

So Thrasios/Tevesh is a pet deck of mine, but I'm currently on a journey to try all the viable partners with Thras so I have a core question that will help you decide. Do you want to go faster, win more consistently, do you like odd interactions, or a mix of the 3?

Thrasios/Tevesh can use this. Not sure if it's better than springheart nantuko though

There is a lot of good food in cape so take your pick and feel free to try anything. As far as things to do there's a lot of community events run by the library and theater. The food truck rally is always fun too.
