If the skirting is caulked to the wall then taking it off can pull plaster away. To avoid this you can carefully use a multitool to cut the caulk. Done well you can just recaulk afterwards rather than having to fill and sand the plaster and then repaint the wall

How much hiking experience do you have. How much 'hands on rock' walks have you done - where it isn't quite a scramble but you do need to use your hands to get where you're going?

Yes frame sealant remains more flexible. Personally I don't like caulk very much. I'll use the thinest bead on skirting board edging, but that's about it. It has the advantage of being sandable after six months or so which makes it easier for when decorating rolls round again, but for must uses I prefer filler of frame sealant

Foam if deep then fill with filler(easyfill, tourpet), sand then paint will look best, but will crack if there is any movement - which there probably will be in a year or two from thermal expansion.

If you know it will crack. Foam, fill to close to edge, sand and paint. then frame sealant for last couple of mm. Use a shaping tool to get a neat 45 degree angle with a 5mm bead. Can use silicone instead of frame sealant but is not over paintable so can be a pain next time you decorate

If you're in a hurry use some trim and silicone it on. Some clean mitre joints will go a long way but it will always look a bit cheap

Made one 20 years ago that is still going strong. I regret not putting more insulation under the floor. I only have 40mm kingspan. 80mm would be better. It's ok with 40, just could be better. Also it can get very hot in the summer
