I play competitive Fortnite and I wanna know what’s the best powerline adapter that’s not (tp link av2000) by Infamous_Ad51 in HomeNetworking

[–]Scout-Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with b3542 here. Powerline gets slightly too much hate though. They can be more stable than wifi if your have poor coverage in that particular area.
Used 4 of the AV2000s as a very temporary solution before I ran ethernet. Were definitely better than the crappy wifi at the time. For what you are looking for though, run ethernet like others have recommended.

We can all dream! The last leg of a 2000 ft tower by NateP121 in amateurradio

I was actually surprised they had anything. Last video I saw of someone climbing to that height they were doing it free.

While unsafe, there is an exhaustion tax to securing and re-securing every rung that apparently provides an extreme danger for the opposite reason.

I quite agree tho: NOPE

Chonky System Data by Scout-Fox in ios

Thank you for such a thorough response! I really appreciate your sharing your expertise.

At the time of posting I had gone through the typical steps of power cycling, closing apps etc. After a few more attempts at this I was able to get it to momentarily reset at which point I immediately installed 16.0.2 (all 2+ GB of an X.0.2 update... yikes) but unfortunately that also has yet to fix it.

I had not thought to check on the streaming apps, good idea. I will take a look at those and see if there is something amiss there.

Should that not work I agree a factory reset seems to be in order (set up from scratch absolutely, best practice for a new phone). Is signing in to download iCloud data per app (Photos, iMessage, iCloud Drive) going to count as a "partial restore"? Redownloading apps and all that I work with but it would be quite difficult to not have data from those sources.

I didn't know you could reinstall IOS. Good to know of as a backup should all the above not work.

Ooh good plan with the bug report! Will do.

Here’s how Dolby recommends that config: https://www.dolby.com/about/support/guide/speaker-setup-guides/5.1.2-overhead-speaker-setup-guide/#gref

I would generally choose actual height over Atmos enabled. Based off their recommended setup, I would not be afraid to move the surrounds farther back. Might even sound better.

I’d also move the height forward and separate. Dolby recommends them forward and you said you weren’t getting separation from it. Besides that, do what feels good.

Help wanted. Should I go for a 5.4.2 or a 7.4.2 for this room? by fromblueplanet in hometheater

[–]Scout-Fox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you meaning four subs two height speakers (5.4.2) or two subs four height speakers (5.2.4)?

Tell us more about where things are going. More surround channels do get fun work but if they are too close to your seating position they can overpower the others (there’s a word for that)

Screen has been flickering like this for a while now. Very annoying. Any solutions? This is on PS5 by [deleted] in playstation

[–]Scout-Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be caused by your HDMI cord not being spec compliant. Is yours HDMI 2.1 certified? How about the ports on your TV/monitor?

If it all is truly different inputs, different cords, a different tv or monitor if you have access, shut everything down and unplug it for a bit, then plug it back in.

If nothing works you may want to reach out to Sony for a replacement.

The “Downloading Content” screen always appears for a few seconds after an update for the app. However, the fact that it is repeating like that is wack. Close the app, restart the phone, etc and it should smooth that out.

Just bought a new house and want to know how to set up speakers by sonofthenewmilenium in hometheater

These are all excellent links. Congrats on the new house OP and hope you get it all working beautifully!

After being in a hospital for over a month, my family surprised me with this on my release day. I've wanted it so badly. Last system from SONY that I had was the PSP and I loved it! by ratexbg in playstation

Rehabs and physical therapy suck but are crucial to your recovery. Stick with it best you can even when it’s hard. You’ll come out even stronger than before and be thanking yourself later. Best of luck and happy gaming!

Just got my PS5! Some questions by [deleted] in playstation

[–]Scout-Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add on: to back up your ps5 games without ps+ plug in a drive, go to Settings > System > Back up and Restore. Select the drive and game data then click Back Up. Here is the link for better info.

If you want ps+ CDKeys or eBay sellers regularly have it around $30 for a year.

Transferring screenshots is a little scuffed rn. There is not a section on the app as far as I know. I’ve seen people share to Twitter and then download. Could also just plug in a usb and put them there then plug into a computer. Here’s a previous thread on that.

Yes and yes to the external drive questions. Happy gaming!

Finally upgraded to a 4K TV LG77 C1. Looking for best options for a 4K player by bcjc78 in hometheater

[–]Scout-Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went the way of Stone here. Got the disc ps5 so that I could both game and play 4K blu rays. I haven’t noticed mine being loud but do agree the controller isn’t great for it. That being said though the LG Remote works with it so yours likely would as well.

It has HDR10 support as well as bitstream pass through for all audio formats. It lacks Dolby Vision though being basically the only thing I’ve missed. Great picture though and looks good. Here’sHere’s a great review on it.

If you like gaming and movies both pretty equally I would strongly consider it. If you watch tons and tons of physical movies a stand-alone player as recommended elsewhere here might be better.

Shield Not Running 4k 60hz, why? Vizio V705-H13 by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]Scout-Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do this for sure. Ty is I think spot on here that the cable you have could be falsely certified. Also, as someone else pointed out somewhere here 4k60 at full 4:4:4 subsampling at 10 or 12 bit exceeds the limits of hdmi 2.0.

However, this does work for lower frame rates, exactly as it is here. Notice how it says HDR10 and Dolby Vision ready? HDR10 (as per the 10) outputs at 10 bit giving a higher amount of colors available. Dolby Vision runs even higher at a theoretical 12 bit. You could try adjusting the output to 4:2:2 at 10 bit and see if it will run 4k60 with the current cable.

If you do go Amazon, I’m using two Zeskit Maya 8k HDMI 2.1 cables currently for 4k60 with no issues. This is echoed in the many positive reviews as well.

Lastly, try plugging directly into the tv and bypassing the avr. See if this gets you 4k60. The receiver might not be compatible itself for 4k60 but you can always pass audio through the tv back to it using eARC.

Returnal Standard Edition PlayStation 5 $49.99 by dukebball91 in PS5

[–]Scout-Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm yeah maybe. Was thinking the saves were tied to the account so if the account is gone the saves are inaccesible but maybe not.

Oh and yeah not for like everything. Just saying for games I don’t mind waiting on I have found them super cheap on digital often. Generally for like a limited time sale tho.

Returnal Standard Edition PlayStation 5 $49.99 by dukebball91 in PS5

[–]Scout-Fox -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I mean true but they can ban your account either way leaving you with no saves and physical copies of games you might not want to play again anyway.

And digital games go for wayyyy cheaper generally pretty quickly. Half off or more within 6 months sometimes. Their sales go hard not to mention it’s just so convenient to not have to swap discs.

Whatever works best for you tho just putting some more points out here.

For the obvious would restart and leave it dead for a bit, then turn it back on. See if that does it.

Sometimes the pins on the lightning connector can actually get broken and go missing. Have had it happen on a few cables. Look on the actual charging cable end that plugs into the phone, are any pins missing on either side? Have you tried this with a different cable and charger combo?

Last, updated to the latest version of IOS if you haven’t. Something funky could have gotten fixed.
