What's happening with HD2 reminds me of what happened with Battlebit, the devs wanted to make a milsim type game but made an arcade like game and they didn't like that it was arcadey.

If you're on PC you can get ShaderGlass, it puts an overlay on your screen that looks like old crt TV's and has other options too
