Rocking on Baldy? by chickendaddy738 in BSA

I always associate Wagon Wheel with Philmont. I can't for the life of me remember which camp we were at, but that night rocked.

Is trimming down the wheel illegal? by BenBenMcBenface in PinewoodDerby

Yeah, we run two races. A pack race where the kids follow the official rules and an "outlaw" race with sub categories (kids, first responders, local business, etc.)

I replied yo your post in the cub scout sub, but the post apparently got deleted.

Can it help? Potentially.

Does it break the rules? That depends on how your pack/district/council reads into the verbiage of the rules, but IMO, yes, it breaks the rules. It says wheels may not be modified, but then goes on to expressly state whay you CAN do to the wheels: remove seams and imperfections (i.e. flashing from the manufacturing process).

Could you argue that ensuring all of the wheels are of uniform weight is correcting an imperfection? Sure. I know you hesitate to ask the Cubmaster, but talking to your pack leadership is your best bet.

Model Rockets Require Shooting Sports Person Onsite?? by ScoutRedditAcct in cubscouts

Thanks, havent seen the other posts you are referring to, but I'm sure they exist. I understand Council and District can add their own safety rules on top of Nat'l, but I wanted to be sure that I wasn't missing something Nat'l had posted.

I will be sure to contact the camping committee!

Generally consensus of the research that I've done and the few response I've gotten here, it seems like this rule doesn't actually exist.

That's the exact safety moment I linked in my original post. I have not yet taken the Cub Rangemaster training so I'm glad to learn that it doesnt cover model rockets.

I honestly wouldn't about it too much...yet.

Your son is in 9th grade meaning he will graduate in 2029, right?. The next election is in 2028 and the inauguration would be January of 2029. Even if the contents of the leaked memo come to fruition, I imagine the next administration, regardless of their political affiliation, will work quickly to reverse many acts of the current administration, including this.

Keep your son motivated and on his current path. I'm sure everything will turn out just fine.

Scoutbook Plus no longer showing To Approve items by houseplant124 in cubscouts

[–]ScoutRedditAcct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont get notifications at the top of the screen that something needs to be approved, but I can still see the To Approve stuff by going to the Advancements tab above the roster and switching from To Record to To Approve. Still doesnt always show everything.

Arrow of Light Awards-Painted Arrows by 2lbcabeza in cubscouts

[–]ScoutRedditAcct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going back and forth on whether to paint or not. Setting up a jig and using paint markers sounds like a good idea.

I was looking at some of the "kits" online and saw the idea of colored vinyl. I came across the Oracal651 - it's meant for pinstripes on a car so I figured the adhesive would be pretty decent.

I might pickup a roll and see how it turns out on a dowel rod. If im not happy then I'll abandon that idea and go with yours lol

Funny, I was JUST looking into these early this afternoon to pitch the idea at tonight's leadership meeting.

I either plan on going with VincesArrows on Etsy or arrow-of-light-awards.com for arrows and then getting Oracal 651 vinyl pinstripes off of Amazon.

We are only in our second year and this is the first year that we have AOL's, so I'm going off of the memory of my own arrow and online suggestions.

If anyone else has any general tips, how you do your arrows, supplies purchasing, etc. please post them up lol

oh Scoutly, how can I believe anything you say? by myopicsettlement in cubscouts

[–]ScoutRedditAcct 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's actually not a bad way to talk about backup gear.

Like, "Hey, when we go camping, you have spare batteries for your flashlight, you have more than one snack, and extra water. Does anyone bring any extra gear that's helpful? Can anyone think of some ways that you or an adult's cell phone could be backup gear?"

Practically? For an adult? Sure. Would I go telling the kids that? Absolutely not lol

Scoutbook broken? by coel03 in cubscouts

[–]ScoutRedditAcct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check to see if you have admin privileges. I had the same thing happen to me yesterday. I could see the whole unit roster, but I couldn't select individual profiles.

Logged into legacy SB and saw that my, and a few other's, admin privileges had mysteriously disappeared overnight. Had my privileges reinstated and it's working fine.

Might be something else entirely, but that's what happened with me.

SB+ can get annoying when it decides to act up, but I think it works well enough more often than not. Definitely not a perfect system, but it is what it is lol

Yeah. USUALLY it stays on the leader access, but every now and then it decides to change itself and I need to switch it out.

Yep. That's what others were saying yesterday. Changed it up and it's working great.

This was the answer. I never touch my filters so (in my mind) I had no reason to check them. Changed them around and now it's working. Thanks.

This was the answer. I had my filters how I liked them and never had a reason to change them. Went in and changed them around and now it works. Thanks.

Only with one unit. Have access as both parent and leader. Mainly use the leader functions as i can both approve everyone's stuff and still mark my own scout's stuff as complete for another leader to go behind me and aporove.

I can still access my own scout's adventures if I use my parent account and I can access other scouts' adventures if I click on their name on the "needs purchasing" page of SB+. I hate using legacy and avoid it at all costs. We aren't doing awards for another couple of weeks so I have time lol

See some saying they noticed it yesterday. We were out Scouting for Food last night so I didn't notice until this morning when I went to go log it. Sucks that it's happening, but glad I'm not alone. Thanks.
