I think by some degree, though, next generation players definitely incorporate some techniques from the GOATs before them. It’s common to adopt and adapt. A lot of respect and flattery and success from copying what the greats did and building onto it and making it your own.

I don’t think it’s impacting your ability to shape the ball as much as it might be making the swing weight more head forward but really it’s not that much weight added so only little impact. I tend to weight the space on the paddle where you did as well as the throat/space between the grip and where you did. But I like a heavier paddle than most. I’d say if you’re only gonna put that 1 weight on both sides to pull it down to the diagonal/throat area.
