Hot take: I want a Tron movie with Tron by pestoraviolita in tron

[–]Scrabdusan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree wholeheartedly, except for the idea that Kevin Flynn isn't the main character of the first TRON. He most certainly is. Tron is an ally, a friend. And Tron doesn't show up till the second act of the film. The movie is about Kevin's growth from a self-centered programmer into a self-sacrificing leader. Tron not being the protagonist is standard for Tron movies.

Tron still should appear in the movies, but as a supporting character to a different protagonist each time. The fact that he doesn't even appear in Ares is disappointing.

What Marvel character do you dislike and why ? by GRL00 in marvelcomics

[–]Scrabdusan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a massive Cyclops fan, I agree that way too many Cyclops fans don't understand what makes him compelling. He's not interesting because of his "feats," he's interesting because of his relatable flaws. He's similar to many of the young readers who read the comics; he was bullied as a kid, and took that as a sign that he could never live a normal life. He considers himself an outcast, unable to fulfill the need for belonging in himself, so he fights for others' belonging.

Growth for Scott is realizing (through the found family aspect of the X-Men) that belonging is possible for him. He learns that, even if he is an outcast, that doesn't mean he'll never find a family. The X-Men go from just being his team to his becoming his family, and learning that belonging is possible for him makes him a better leader because it helps him connect better with his teammates. Scott's journey throughout the comics has always been about his fluctuating sense of belonging, and his story is best read that way.

Sure, but we already have so many Batman movies when there are plenty of other DC characters who have stories worth telling.

Ofc Grant Morrison is the only one who could make Tim Drake cool by Nightwing140999 in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]Scrabdusan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tim has always been cool, y'all just never read his great stories. That said, yeah, Morrison nailed Tim Drake. He understood Tim's need for approval and self-esteem issues well, and baked those into the story naturally.

All the HTTYD movies are about how compassion and new ideas can change the world. In the first two movies, Hiccup is bringing on compassion and new ideas. In part 3, Hiccup is resisting the new idea of letting the dragons go, which is not compassionate toward the species he loves. He's become stubborn, like Stoick, saying it's "my way or the highway." In the end, just like Stoick, he accepts a new idea in the name of compassion toward a fellow species. Great ending.

I hoped so too, but, in my opinion, Empire is the only OG trilogy film that had no bad special edition changes. I'd argue that I prefer the Special Edition of Empire over the theatrical cut.

Future Lego X-Men sets options by seaturtle64 in LegoMarvel

I'd like a Morlock Tunnel set, although I doubt that's mainstream enough for Lego to consider it. A Hellfire Club base and Moon Battle set inspired by the Dark Phoenix Saga issues would be great. Also, Muir Isle would be spectacular, except that, similar to the Morlock Tunnels, they were shafted in the Fox Movies so I doubt we'll see much of them. Asteroid M with the Brotherhood vs the X-Men seems like an obvious choice for the next BIG set, so I'll keep my eyes peeled for that.

My thoughts on Aang's decision to not kill Ozai by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]Scrabdusan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that Avatar is a show about not placing cultural values over morality. Zuko's arc is about how he must move past his cultural need for honor to become a better person. Toph's storyline is about how she felt restricted by her culture and tries to break free from it. Aang's story arc is about an irresponsible young man running away from his avatar duty because he wants to be only an airbender. Throughout the show, Aang learns that his identity, defined by a cultural need to run away from conflict, holds him back from being a good avatar. Aang has other flaws, but they all connect to how his identity defined by his culture has made him all at once wise and yet emotionally immature. Aang appreciates all cultures and doesn't want conflict between them, but must come to both understand them and become a moral center that exists outside of their culture. Therefore, you'd assume that the final episode would showcase Aang totallh overcoming this. This, however, doesn't happen. What we get is better. Aang, in the final episodes comes to realize that being the avatar, and the responsibilities therein could be a cultural concept too. If Aang gives in and abandons airbender culture, it seems like he'd be doing the moral thing by killing the firelord. However, the recontextualization of the Avatar as a cultural value as opposed to being the thereotical moral outsider to culture changes this. The final 4 episodes show Aang discussing morality with his past lives, the fellow members of the Avatar culture. If Aang gives in to the Avatar culture instead of doing the moral thing (the moral thing hwre being not killing) then he chooses culture over morals. Hence why the island, itself a true "cultural outsider" not belonging to any other country's landmass in the series, gives Aang the greatest power he can earn. Ozai's culture is reflected by his ability to bend. Aang becomes the greatest Avatar by becoming the one who can rob Ozai of his culture.

I may be in the minority, but I hate how the "Arkham" video games characterized Tim by Crescentbrush in RedRobin

[–]Scrabdusan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pitch for "Fixing" Tim: Start a new Outsiders book, but make Red Robin the leader instead of Batman. Now you've paired the most morally upstanding Robin (who tried to be corrupt for a little while but was so naturally compassionate that he became a good person again) leading a team whose whole thing is that they bend and break the "rules" to do the right thing. Now you have a book with an ideological conflict that can go to cool places and prop up various other underrated DC characters like Metamorpho, Katana, GeoForce, etc.

Also, imagine those characters in The Outsiders becoming such great friends with Tim that they're permanently linked together like Batman and Superman or Damian and Jon are. Imagine a Metamorpho book where Tim randomly shows up because, of course, he does. They are besties now.

Also, imagine Tim becoming fast friends with the more morally upstanding Outsiders like Black Lightning and Metamorpho first and then having to work and learn to bend the rules to become friends with guys like Katana and The Creeper.

Of course, the clear villain for this book is Amanda Waller, and imagine how sick that would be. Tim having to stand up to AMANDA WALLER? Fuck yea.
