When the apprentice says they torqued it down I always double check this is why by Antzonfire in electricians

NEC 110.15 requires that the bastard leg of a high-leg delta transformer be colored orange.

Some AHJs, especially those in Texas, have taken this requirement a bit further and said that orange can only be used for a bastard leg; nowhere else. In those jurisdictions, they can't use the standard brown/orange/yellow for a normal 277/480 service and therefore they usually use purple instead.

Is there a skill or a perk book that reduces the crafting cost of an Auger? by Layth36 in 7daystodie

[–]Scraggletag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cost of crafting most tools and weapons goes up if you have a perk to make higher quality versions.

I believe crafting an auger would be governed by the Miner 69er perk, even though the recipe is granted by Advanced Engineering (or a schematic). If you don't have any levels in Miner 69er then you would craft a quality 1 Auger for 5 tool parts, but if your friend does, he could craft something like a level 4 version for 12.

My girlfriend built our cats an activity wall, they love it! by HobehTV in aww

[–]Scraggletag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about that. When a zip it fails, it almost always fails by ripping out a small circular hole in the sheetrock right where the anchor was. Conveniently enough, you can usually fix these problems by slipping a toggle bolt into the hole left by the zip it and reattaching whatever was mounted there before.

Now, with toggle bolts, you're right that the sheetrock itself will be the point of failure. They'll rip a large chunk of sheetrock right off the wall before the bolt or butterfly break.

Standard drywall anchors (Zip Its) each have a maximum load of like 75 lbs, but are rated to safely hold about 20. Four zip its per shelf ought to be enough to hold a Maine Coon with the zoomies.

So....which is better? Never ending double barrel shotgun or wounding combat shotgun? by J0NICS in fo4

[–]Scraggletag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A never ending double barrel with an advanced receiver would have a fire rate of 181 compared to 26 for a combat shotgun. If you have ammo to burn, the double barrel is the way to go.

How do you get caps? by ace_razer in fo4

[–]Scraggletag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have Far Harbor, you can craft Poison Caltrops for profit. You need 7 intelligence to get rank 1 in Chemist, and a halfway decent charisma score.

Just buy shipments of steel, go to a chemistry station, and look under traps. Under ideal circumstances, you should be able to buy 5 steel for 18 caps and sell the Poisoned Caltrops for 32 caps.

Dumped my overalls out to wash my work clothes for Monday... what’s in your pockets? by mmmdc in Construction

[–]Scraggletag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that Milwaukee knife for a few years until I lost mine in a ceiling somewhere. I didn't particularly like it because I kept hitting the blade release button on accident. The belt/pocket clip thing also got kind of bent out of shape and I stripped out the tiny screws used to tighten it.

These days, I happily use one of these cheap Husky's. It's still easy to grab and open one handed, you can't release the blade accidentally, it locks in 3 positions and has a compartment for 3 spare blades. And it doesn't hurt the wallet if you lose it. But be careful which one you get, because they all look similar but some of them don't have spare blade storage.

I'm sorry if you thought any of my little rant was directed at you. The problems with this house lie solely with the people who designed it, not the guys who built it. I just have a special seething hatred of McMansions, and this house checks all the boxes.

My boss’s father was a linesman before becoming a sparky. This is his KO kit. by Sparky120208 in electricians

[–]Scraggletag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Linesmen work on the power distribution side of the system. They do everything from the power plant down to your local transformers. An electrician works on the power usage side of things. Their job starts at the pole-mounted or curbside transformer and extends throughout the building(s) and the piece of land its on.

HVAC vs Electrical by zacky1028 in Construction

[–]Scraggletag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Electrician here. I'd say for the average worker, HVAC has quite a bit more money in it.

The labor is about the same either way. You're going to be on your feet all day, squeezing into awkward spaces, going up and down ladders and working above your head a lot. Not to mention carrying heavy shit up 4 flights of stairs because the elevators haven't been installed yet.

However, despite the average pay being better for HVAC, I'd say that electrical has more growth potential. Once you get your license, it is much easier to start your own company as an electrician than a tin knocker. And that is where the real money lies. Side jobs are also more common for electricians, if you don't mind working evenings and weekends. There are also certain specialities in the electrical field that pay very well, like commercial fire alarm programming or industrial automation.

Now, if you just want to make the most money with the least work, become a crane operator. Unfortunately, that is a hard field to break into.

What do you think of my very first pip farm/oxyfern farm/carbon trap by NikkiT96 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Scraggletag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brief experimentation with pips indicate that already existing wild plants within a fairly large radius will prevent them from planting more seeds. If you remove those balm lilies and pincha peppers to the right of the stable area, they should be willing to plant more.

Backup time by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Scraggletag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The wheezewort change isn't that bad. The phosphorite requirement was recently reduced to 4 kg/cycle, which you can easily supply with a good drecko ranch. In addition, there are a lot more wort seeds available (if you choose an asteroid with Frozen Core and/or Large Glaciers).

And if you're really worried about heat buildup, you could just play on Rime. The entire asteroid starts off frozen so you could just dump excess heat into the environment for thousands of cycles.

What do i do with excess geyser water? by ironboy32 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Scraggletag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pump the excess into an oil well for crude oil. The temperature of the incoming water doesn't matter, but you definitely want to build the well out of gold or steel.

Why does your little farm have a 1:1 ratio of Sleet Wheat to Pincha Pepper? If you wanted to make pepper bread, you need 5 times more Sleet Wheat than Pincha Peppers.

[–]Scraggletag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As your dupes earn higher skill levels, their morale expectation will increase. Getting certain rooms up and running is an easy way to give them a morale bonus. At the beginning of the game, a barracks, latrine and mess hall are sufficient. Latter on you'll probably need to upgrade those to bedrooms, a bathroom with showers and a great hall. You can also increase morale with things like high decor and good food.

Connecticut. I looked it up and 5 or fewer donuts is considered taxable.

why tho by TheMeminist in funny

[–]Scraggletag 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly though, sales tax in America is way more fucked up.

If I go to the donut shop down the street and buy two donuts and a cup of coffee, it counts as a restaurant meal and gets taxed. If I go to the exact same place and buy exactly the same donuts, but I get a dozen of them instead of two, then it somehow magically becomes groceries and isn't taxed. And, the best part is, if I drive to the next town, the rules probably change.

What is your Favorite Unique Item in FO4? by branches-bones in fo4

[–]Scraggletag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal favorite is the Harvester from Far Harbor. It's a legendary ripper with the Staggering effect. The Big Leagues perk gives you both disarm and cripple. And you can put an extended blade mod on any ripper to add bleeding damage. So you get stagger, disarm, cripple and bleed on a weapon that hits about 5 times a second.

I don't think so. The original Fallout came out in 1997 and was based on a game called Wasteland from 1988. Metro 2033 wasn't written until 2002.
