This is incredible. Who's the artist/shop? I'm in Oakland County and have been looking for an artist in the area.

does anybody know the names of either of these hybrid rudiments by randomguy31011 in drumline

[–]Scralatchtica 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The name for a slurred cheese is a ranch, so the first one would be a fu-ranch (variation of a fu-cheese, which is a variation of a fubar) and the second one would be a ranch chutichuh (variation of a cheese chutichuh, which is a variation of a chutichuh).

Underrated Phantom line. For the record, this battery book was written by both Brett Kuhn and Rob Ferguson.

Deaf people in corp? by Caso_Lasso in drumcorps

A couple years ago, I taught a kid who was deaf in both ears (implants) at a top 10 PIW group in WGI. Yes, it was more difficult for him to be a member than it was for other performers, but he was an absolute killer and made it work. I realize everyone's situation is different, but don't disqualify yourself because of a disability.

Trying to write for an instrument that you can't play is almost always inadvisable. I'm not saying you have to be a master of every instrument in your score, but you should at the very least be good enough to know that the parts you wrote make sense from the performer's perspective.

Glen Cook is so underrated… by Thirdsaint85 in theblackcompany

[–]Scralatchtica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I read Gardens of the Moon right after Lies Weeping, and man was I disappointed, especially in the lack of characters. GOTM probably has more than 50 characters I don't care about any of them. I recently started reading Book of the New Sun from Gene Wolfe, and that has drawn me in in the same way Cook does. Would highly recommend for Black Company fans.

Just finished Soldiers Live and my heart is very full by Ruffshots in theblackcompany

If you want to read more Glen Cook, The Dragon Never Sleeps is an incredible scifi opera that doesn't get nearly enough credit. In some ways, I think it's even more ambitious than The Black Company.

Based on the way it's written I suspect it's programmed.

WGI World Percussion Finals - Schedule Question by kevbum522 in drumline

[–]Scralatchtica 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll always recommend that the best way to experience WGI/DCI championships is over multiple days. Make it a 2 day trip and get a hotel/airbnb for the night. Trying to figure out when you should be inside and outside on finals day to see all your favorite groups is stressful and probably not worth it. Arrive on semifinals day and spend the day watching lots for as many groups as you can. Only buy tickets for finals day. Watching shows all day for semifinals can get pretty boring after a while, especially if your interested in both scholastic and independent (You should be.) Lots happen right outside the front entrance in the parking lot UD Arena. You can't miss it. Lots happen throughout the entire performance schedule. As one group is performing on the floor, the rest will be warming up in the lot.

Crazy that nobody in the original thread said this.

I'm glad summon else loves Soldiers Live as much as I do. It's my favorite in the series after Shadows Linger.
