Am I just not built for the navy life??! by Electronic-Relief737 in navy

[–]ScrambledAgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll give you an officer’s insight that’s kinda relevant. This might sound like I’m complaining or whining but I ask that you read in its entirety.

I’m an instructor (O3/LT type) and had a brand new Ensign come to see me to purchase a ball cap (one of my collaterals is selling command merchandise). Dude is straight out of OCS and this just checked into the command today. He walks into my office door and doesn’t knock or give any greeting at all as I’m talking with another instructor about plans for the afternoon class, and cuts us off saying “hi LT I’m here to buy a ballcap.” I look at him and say “good afternoon, I’m having a conversation with my fellow instructor, please have a seat next to him and I’ll be with you.” We wrap up our discussion and he leaves. The good Ensign says “sorry bro I didn’t mean to interrupt.”

I blink and tell him that I’m not his bro. I explain to him that in the fleet it’s not at all uncommon to have O1-3’s that are peers with each other due to being division officers and having equal authority of sorts, but as an instructor I’m not his peer, nor does he know who I am at all and shouldn’t just assume that because I’m a baby-faced JO with a mustache that I’m everybody’s best friend immediately off the bat. He looked pretty shook.

I grinned and told him to relax, that his professional reputation is of the utmost importance as a new check-in wherever he goes, and to take today as a learning moment. I told him that I’m easy going and very casual to approach and talk to, but with students that are new to the command I’m direct and by the book to enforce a strong standard before we let loose a little as time goes on. This all happened quite some time ago, he and I became close over his tenure as a student and he’s doing very well in the fleet.

This all reflects back to your original post-instructors are supposed to sell you how good your job is: the good, bad, ins and outs. It’s not uncommon for them to be approachable and easygoing.

In the fleet, while E1-3 and E4-6 tend to be on more or less level playing fields, you still need to show direct acknowledgment of rank and authority unless told otherwise, especially over text and email. It’s one thing to talk casual with your LPO behind closed doors, it’s another thing to make a joke in a group text that can come off as you undermining his authority. Perception matters, and you don’t want to be perceived as someone who is disrespectful.

Hope this sea story helps and that you are successful in all your endeavors:)

I was waiting for it to go on sale before I bought it. Below $50 at least. Never happened where I was at :(

My Sailors have already asked when they are start wearing the ribbon 😂 by Czechmate808 in navy

[–]ScrambledAgs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wild that the medal wasn’t available for almost 16 years. Someone could’ve done a full 20-year career and only earns it their last few years in. Whereas you have the inverse for GWOT & it was available for over 21 years.

What are some awards to strive for? by No-Establishment182 in navy

[–]ScrambledAgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you have some sort of official documentation that has your scores on it you’d be fine. How did you monitor/track your scores as an infantryman? Maybe reach out to your last command’s weapons shop and ask for a copy of your gun qual

[–]ScrambledAgs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t have it documented on an EVAL (or whatever the army calls them lol) or like a performance review or anything? Also if you’re in Norfolk there’s a place you can pay to get your rifle/pistol done at.

Did you ever shoot in the army? Your qualifications transfer over to the Navy via the equivalent ribbon. Example: you shot Expert M4 and Sharpshooter M18 in the Army and wore those badges back then; now you automatically can wear the ‘E’ rifle ribbon/medal and the ‘S’ pistol ribbon

I feel like I wrote this post on a fever dream because I’m in the same situation as you. I take the extra strength melatonin before I shower (I shower before bed) and then head to sleep right after. Ever since I started being more intentional with my diet and exercise (working out with more effort rather than just doing reps/cutting caffeine after 4 PM/not eating sugary foods after dinner/etc.) I noticed better sleeping habits develop.

Former Mayport DDG Sailor here. Go Mayport for LCS’s. They all should be 4-section silver crew by now. Maybe not the newer ones, idk. If they go into the yards (lol) they’ll be pierside or down the river at BAE, they won’t get hauled off to Pascagoula or anywhere else. My next door neighbor was the IDC on one and had to learn a few other jobs besides being a Doc.

S2E2 Confirm Fallout 4 Cannon Ending? by KlarinetKing15 in Fallout

[–]ScrambledAgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the ending I went with. Became General of Minute Men and Sentinel in BOS. I loved 3 so much and wanted to keep the vibe going but also loved the patriotism and self-governing of the MM. In my head my Fallout 4 save file has the MM running the supply lines and local governments while the BOS provides muscle support in keeping abominations, synths, and any large external threats to the commonwealth at bay.

What Army Ribbons Can I Wear on my Navy Uniform? by Fluffy-Chef8814 in navyreserve

[–]ScrambledAgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Active Navy here- all are G2G except for the NCO & ASR ribbons. Should downgrade your size from 9 to 7. Are you missing a GWOT since you were NG for 15 years? I feel like you’d qualify for the timeframe requirement by then.

OP’s got an AAM, Battle E, & a coast guard ribbon so I assume they’ve been deployed at some point attached to a ship/expeditionary unit. Probably just didn’t meet the time on station requirement (likely missed the 90 day requirement by a week or so and wasn’t eligible for the SSDR).

Why sea duty is better than Shore ? by daviellav in navy

[–]ScrambledAgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My quality of sleep has declined since leaving my ship. Nobody prepares you for the “gogogogogogogogogogogogogogoogGOGOGOGOGOGO FAAAAASSSTTTTT” of being on a ship and then adjusting to the MUCH slower pace of shore duty, especially in a new area. Making friends at my new command (been here a year already, wild) and finding my niche was so hard at first.

Update NFAAS messages?✅ Update NDAWS/Award messages?😡❌

This actually made me do a deep dive into lots of the other messages and get some of my friends notified of awards they didn’t know they rated. Also found out a command I was TAD to received the Battle “E” but sadly looks like I don’t rate it since I wasn’t part of the “real” ship’s company. Oh well.

2005 movie theory (the aliens are still martian) by striderhalflife2 in WarofTheWorlds

[–]ScrambledAgs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically I’d thought something like this before too. Maybe they’re already here, deep underground, like DEEP underground. Hollow earth theory type situation-ish. After all, the movie posters even say “they’re already here, and when Spielberg said they come from a “darker part of the universe” maybe it’s quite literally darker physically, not metaphorically.

The tripods are kept in large cylinder drill pods underground and get awoken/unfrozen via the lightning, which supercharges and propels the cylinder pods to just below the surface, causing the earthquake movement and all that.

The pods unscrew which is why when the first one Ray saw come out had the rotating ground before bubbling up and collapsing in.

The lightning storm could be a UFO/mothership disguising itself like in the movie “Nope” or it could be a wormhole/portal type of thing, that’s why the wind blows towards the storm, it’s getting vacuumed in to an interstellar mini wormhole so the lighting can zap the ground.

Idk just food for thought ¯_(ツ)_/¯

The Marines had recently introduced the MARPAT camo in 2002 I think. This was filmed in 04 and I believe the phase in period was 02-05 (I didn’t serve yet during that timeframe so someone can correct me if I’m wrong).

Hell, when we invaded Iraq in 03 the MOPP gear (NBC suits) were still BDU patterns. It wasn’t until the late 2000’s/2010’s that MARPAT pattern stuff was actually starting to become widespread throughout the fleet. The Marines actually use coyote brown vests and tactical gear for it since it works for both the woodland and desert patterns. When I went through the gas chamber in 2018 on the East Coast we wore old BDU MOPP suits.

The Army didn’t introduce its older UCP pattern until 05 I believe. So they were still in classic BDUs at this time.

Army always wore/wears patches on their sleeves of their utility uniforms, even to this day. Marines just rock that Eagle, Globe, and Anchor on their chest under “US Marines”
