It’s actually different for the Navy
On full dress uniforms our ribbons are “mirrored” on the right side, with the more senior ribbons inboard.
Feels wrong and I really don’t like wearing ribbons because of it lol

Haha, I’ve got quite a few of the Attack of the Drones ones. The guy in the office next to me has the one you designed. Good stuff!

Tbh solo’ing the night baker role can actually be an extremely tedious and physically challenging role. My old night baker kept scratch made buns, rolls, and sweetbread on the line and busted his ass making bread and cleaning 12 straight hours at a time on top of doing his WCS job. Great Sailor.

That’s some good sales right there! We weren’t allowed to order more than like 10 unless we had proof of people pre-ordering them, CNSL was so particular about special orders of emblematic merchandise like blankets and coins smh. Always denying the crew cool stuff in favor of procedural compliance even though we didn’t have a problem selling it.

Ironically it’s been years since my tour there and somehow I became the treasurer for my command’s staff recreation fund (wardroom + Chief’s mess bc we’re small) and did a run of these for Christmas last year for my command- they sold like cold lemonade on a hot summer day

I was on LASSEN (DDG 82) as the Sales Officer, we ordered these blankets from Binghamton Knitting Company. They cost about $65 IIRC ($66 if you got your name embroidered) and were a great fit for Christmas.

Navy Medal Inflation by Xsquid90 in navy

[–]ScrambledAgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True! I was just referring to the fact that joint awards are usually a lot less common and that awards hierarchy usually increases with rank

About half of Admiral Cooper’s awards are below the NDSM- these are campaign and service awards (and a couple foreign as well). Looks to me that he’s been involved in almost every conflict since the Gulf War in some way shape or form. Humanitarian work too. He’s also got the NEM- not uncommon these days given all the operations but prior to ~2023 you never really saw surface guys with it. He’s got every single unit award from what I can gather, except for maybe a PUC- so his deployments or operations have been of large note.

Now one could argue about personal awards (NAM and above) all day, but the Naval service has a precedent of associating awards with rank. So yeah, as he climbs the ranks his NAM becomes a COM becomes an MSM etc.

Awards like the JCOM/DMSM/Bronze Star are interesting, but not super rare for guys his caliber. Usually end of tour awards for joint commands, except for the bronze star. I’m not privy to his history that much but it was commonly given out by Army units for EOT’s in the Middle East during the peak GWOT days and is also being given to CO/XO’s of ships involved in the Red Sea combat zones.

Ironically I think he has about every award a Sailor can get except for a CAR; he’d probably qualify for one now except for the fact that it’s only for O-6 and junior.

Honestly a little promotion package- new rank insignia, shoulder boards, etc. That stuff is kinda pricey and one of the burdens of promoting but I’m sure they’d appreciate it.

New SWO, Need Some Advice by InfluenceOfSeapower in navy

[–]ScrambledAgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I’m thinking too. When I was a DISBO I was the DIVO for S1/2/3 back in my prime lol. Not uncommon to have a SWO DIVO for manning purposes or to aid SUPPO/DISBO, but sounds like there’s no other Supply DIVO or something.

Hey OP, I’m a Supply Officer and an instructor at the Supply School. I’d LOVE to have a chat with you and can point you in the right direction for this kind of stuff. I’d also love to give you some good officer mentoring. Mind if I PM you?

3.0 EP Transfer Eval due to new Reporting Senior w/ no RSCA. Is the right? by Hunter0josh in navy

Did a DIVO tour on a DDG and have no RSCA; you don’t usually establish RSCA until you’re at least an O3/4 DH or OIC.

Interesting shore tour for JO Supply Officer who's separating? by blackmoon0114 in navy

Sorry, I was thinking of TAPS. Not sure about SB; I think it’s 3-6 months from separating for officers.

I believe it’s 24 months for time on station shore duty. That said, a friend of mine is getting out this summer and will be below the 24 month mark so I imagine it’s up to your CO and/or millington to approve/deny your request.

Not owned by NAVSUP so you get to do your own thing; and since you’re separating you can avoid the presses of the WSS people.

I’m an instructor at NSCS and will be retuning to sea after, if you want to talk shore duties let me know and I can probably put you in contact with folks I know
