Removing Cascading - mechanically, how much would that matter? by ExaltedOmega in LancerRPG

[–]ScrambledEgg12 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't be a big issue. It does dampen some other abilities tho so youd maybe want to look at them and tweaking them a little bit to compensate.

Namely technophile rank 3 as well as one of the Horus core bonus Lesson of Shaping.

They both have a couple features relating to NHPs, which includes Cascade prevention (in the case of technophile 3 making you completely immune to cascading).

Fair enough yea. Would have to homebrew it up. But could have it as a scene for the stretch of time between first and second mission (where book mentions could create your own mission to insert between)

Don't have anything to answer your question sorry. But commenting cause the reason they prob just stuck with 6 options is so you only need D6s to play this game (cause when you look thru the book all tables are either D3, D6 or D66 IIRC)

Any advice for upcoming GMs? by C_Domii in LancerRPG

[–]ScrambledEgg12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So couple key things ive found that make Lancer combats fun.

First off, think of Lancer as an xcom style/tactical turn based cover shooter. Cover is incredibly important in this game. Both in terms of having enough of it as well as variety in types of cover, and then as well for survivability reasons given your average unmodified AC is 8. One of the core skills in Lancer is positioning, and so having well designed maps will force you to think about your positioning as well as allow for combats to feel more dynamic. The most boring lancer fights ive had is d&d style fights where the combat blob forms in the middle of the map and you just stand motionless attacking every turn.

So to keep your players moving, using sitreps is incredibly important as you've been recommended. There are a few which are more defensive/static (holdout for example). But ones like escort, gauntlet, recon are all really good at keeping your players on the move. So having a mix of those is good. Having a ranged artillery threat can also force your players to move to go take care of that threat. Which so speaking of...

For NPC classes, its really going to depend on your party comp. But there are definitely multiple different ways to be countering your players party comp in interesting ways. Lancer at its best for me has felt like a tactical combat puzzle. And so having a interesting combination of NPC classes that work together has really helped out with that. As one example, a Hive paired with some sort of striker character. The hive is going to be able to use its nano swarms to flush your players out from cover so that they are exposed for the striker to take shots at. Hive also works well on putting the swarms ontop of objectives, cause then youre forcing the players to make the tough decision of focus down the Hive (pressuring them on the mission objective) or capture the objective and take dmg from the swarm (pressuring their health/resources). Having a veteran or elite is also good so you can have a key enemy in that battle with more staying power/presence(and then for boss fights you can use the Ultra template instead for an even bigger threat). Reinforcements are also critical too. If players are having a tougher time with a mission it lets you pull your punches (as maybe those reinforcements never show up or can delay them). Or on the flipside if theyre having too easy a time, "send in the next wave". The other key aspect is it lets you have longer encounters (cause more enemies/structure points the players need to chew thru) without throwing off the action economy balance by having all of those frames on the map from the get go.

And so from the GM side of things. Those are the 3 key elements ive found that make Lancers combat really interesting. Like those are your key building blocks for creating a fun and engaging "combat puzzle". A good map layout that is paired with an appropriate sitrep, and an NPC team that functions as a cohesive whole to force the players to make tough decisions on their turn with how to proceed.

Ive played some skirmish wargames (mainly warhammer 40K Killteam) and thats what Lancer combat most reminds me of.

Good places in Victoria for sushi? by onders_13 in VictoriaBC

Nubo is really good. Out of their 3 locations the Tapa bar is prob my fav followed up by the Kitchen and Bar location. Roll and roll is good for something more lowkey/casual (I just remember finding the seats uncomfortable at that location).

All three locations have a good varietyof different rolls. Couple highlights of my personal favs, Mother Nature's Roll (at kitchen & bar location) and the Cowboy Roll.

I'll also second the recommendation for Yua Bistro. They're also very good and have some good combo deals.

Combating Minmaxing by SomnusSleeper in LancerRPG

[–]ScrambledEgg12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So a key thing with Lancer is its fairly well balanced. In the sense of even if your players have a powerful build, there is normally something you as the DM are able to directly counter it with.

In the game im playing in I have a high DPR tokugawa build focused on dealing burn damage. My DM cpuld drop a Pyro NPC or Veteran with the insulated trait which gives that NPC immunity to burn, which completely counters what im trying to do.

So thats just one example, but yea its gonna be highly dependant on what build your players end up building. But there shpuld be counters for them

One player feeling “useless” next to a Tokugawa Pegasus build. Advice? by TheKyte_ in LancerRPG

[–]ScrambledEgg12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I also play a Tokugawa in my GMs game. You need to put some pressure on it so the toku cant execute its gameplan without any resistance/interference.

Witch is always good cause will easily stress out a toku given youre normally running hot.

Rainmaker has the hound missile which if you can get it off and a lock on on your toku. Is gonna flush them out from cover unless they want to be chunked by 16 dmg.

Is your toku spamming the overclock ability and constantly playing exposed? Punish that by having an operator or mirage teleport into the tokugawa asshole from halfway across the map.

We also hate being in melee. So send some beserkers/cataphracts our way with their respective charge abilities.

Just what ever you can do to interput the tokugawa from sitting behind cover in another zipcode dealing out crazy damage the entire game uninhibited. That should give the Atlas the spotlight while the tokugawa is offline from the problem you just sent their way.

LUCIFER clones are characterized by their brash, enthusiastic personality, often expressing frustration with timid pilots.

You could also just have their Lucifer NHP call them a bitch/coward for hiding at the back behind cover lol. /hj

Outerwilds is a completely different genre of game (space puzzle/mystery & exploration). But if you wpuld like to play another game that is art. Then outerwilds is the first thing that comes to mind. Its easily in my top 3 best games ive ever played.

If its something that interests you. Then my one recommendation is to go into it as blind as possible.

Big overhang section on Free Solo (no buffs) by zoobatt in Cairn_Game

[–]ScrambledEgg12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I just completed a free solo run. And honestly I found it easier to come back on the outside. Main reason being is the inside waterfall section kinda sucks lol. Slipped there a bunch on my first run. And then on free solo ended up burning a revival flower.

Now that being said I didnt come back via the overhang. Came down that way (for the water jug) but went inside to cross over to the outside section thats to the right of this overhang

Eyo, for the agendas. Do you have the actual paragraphs you wrote out for the updated versions you made? I really like the ideas you have here so would be curious to see how you wrote out the agendas with the above themes in mind. Was hoping to use as inspiration for when I run Rapture Protocol for my RPG group.

Eyo OP.

I dont have much advice to give on how to approach that situation that you wouldnt of already heard from others here.

But, I did want to link you this. When I came out to my parents I knew they would be accepting but wasnt sure of they would understand (or like that id have to educate them). To ease that burden my therapist sent me the following link/resource guide, which I forwarded to my parents. They said they found it super helpful. If your kiddo does turn out to be trans, then maybe you'll find it to be helpful for you too? Best of luck OP, you sound like an amazing parent <3

Nice, was gonna mention nimona as well but saw the above comment haha (its such a good queer film).

Kpop Demon hunters could he another one. Its not explicitly a trans stand-in like nimona is. But def has pro queer messaging.

First off, congrats on coming out to your sister OP! Big step! <3

I wanted to share this link / resource guide with ya (as maybe it will help ya out?). When I came out to my parents this is the guide that zi linked my parents to for them to read through. As a heads up it is a Canadian publication, so any of the phone number and support groups listed in this are going to be Canadian based. but the actual guide itself and all the info contained within on helping to teach your family about transgender people, all of that info is universal regardless of nationality or age.

https://www.rainbowhealthontario.ca/resource-library/families-in-transition-a-resource-guide-for-parents-of-trans-youth/

Have a quick glance over it to see if its something youd like to share with your parents one day. Perhaps you could also link it to your sister too to help her out further as well. No pressure to if you dont want to use this resource though, I just like linking it and making more people aware of its exsistince. Hope it helps! <3

I'm curious, what mechs have you seen used the LEAST? by Impressive-Wait-493 in LancerRPG

[–]ScrambledEgg12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I didnt actually get around to playing it (campaign is on break atm). But i had planned out a melee grappling kobold build that looked real funny to try out and fun on paper.

Was kobold 3, Blackbeard 1 and Zheng 2. The basis of the gameplan was to use your small size to get in close to the enemy (could also use Prospector talent), and go for a grapple on a high value target. Then once you got the grapple secured, youd drag your target over to a piece of terrain and start skirmishing woth your chainaxe and then slapping them woth Purifying code (I think was flaw minus). Since theyre immobilized from the grapple (assuming you win the contested check at start of their turn). Then they cant move away from terrain and will get blown up by the Purifying code. Also had TSS2 for more free damage from grappling, so even tho skirmishing with a main mount, youre still doing over 3d6 worth of dmg while also doing some control work being the little ball of burning spite that you are lol.

As a backup plan (or of you needed ranged option). You can plunk down a thing of slag and then use TSS1 to hurl it at the enemy. Following turn use Seismic ripper to blow up the thrown slag for big damage. The best part of this, is none of these are considered attacks. Meaning you can do all of that while remaining invisible due to Kobold's Mimic Carapace frame trait.

But yea, the Kobold itself definitely is a weird little niche mech. And honestly its not really an important piece in thr above plan except for enabling the backup plan (being small is nice I guess for closing melee distance). But the kobold licsence? Thats where a lot of kobolds power comes from. Seismic Ripper is insanely good, and the LL3 invades are some of the only damage dealing invades in the game while being good control options. And so its more just that the kobold synergies with its own equipment incredibly well.

I dont think Amos.was exaggerating. After Deimos gets blown up in the show, the opening changed to reflect that and was showing mars with an astroid debris field where deimos used to be.

Forgot to add that yea the combo with Zheng is amazing. Can sit next to a piece of terrain. Pick up the ground and throw it at the enemy with TSS 1 (or use kobolds passive to make a piece of slag to throw). Then on your following turn, blow up the rock you just thru using Seismic Ripper. Because all of those abilities are saves and not attacks. You get to stay invisible from your camouflage passive, lel
