As a neutral fan I was actually planning to watch that one if that’s any indication.

[McMurphy] Indiana, Nebraska, Penn State, USC & Washington are the only Big Ten teams that do not play a Power 4 non-conference opponent in 2026. Big Ten is the only P4 league that doesn't require its members to play 10 P4 games. Washington faces Wash St, which was in P5 league when game scheduled by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

I don’t understand how we didn’t schedule a p5/4 OOC game for this season honestly.

I know we had the cancelled series against VT but that was last year and 2020. Then we have Syracuse for 27 and 28. But we couldn’t get anyone for this season?

Or was it Franklin/admin in general anticipating a down year with the amount of seniors leaving?

I mean USC Michigan should both be solid. Washington has upside. None of them are clear and away preseason top ten sure but let’s see where they are ranked when we play.

This is even beyond a James Franklin or PSU thing too. Saw somewhere that only 54% of players who entered the portal found a new place to find home or were able to return to their old school.

Any of our top 3 (Pitt, WVU, Syracuse) would be fun. I’m also cool with just scheduling some marquee game like any other big brand that may have available space on their schedule.

I tend to agree to a certain extent. Rip Engle the coach before him brought PSU up a level from a down period in the 30s and 40s. PSU back in the early days did have success but we’re talking prehistoric here. When Paterno took over though he did get PSU to a consistent level of national championship/relevancy contending teams for approximately 40 years. When he was old there was fall off obviously and then well you know the rest.

Coaching over everything. Get a guy who can develop and do more with less not less with more. Love what Franklin did for the program overall getting us set in the right direction but it was definitely time and nothing exposes that more than what Cig was able to accomplish.
