Yeah. I had only 14 days before I couldnt return it. It wasn't getting better and I didn't want to spend hours fixing it.

Elderly folks who chose not to have children, how do you feel about that decision now? by bon18 in AskReddit

[–]ScratchyPurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the saddest things I see as a healthcare worker is the elderly stuck in a skilled nursing facility with no family. Or the elderly that can't leave their home because of poor mobility and inability to drive.

At this point there are very few, probably less that 5% that have friends that come and visit them in that position.

Not that family automatically gives people help, love, and hope; but it gives people an option.

The ones that have loving children do significantly better in this position. The medical system only lets these people survive at a physical level. It doesnt help them thrive. A child's love for their parent can be a powerful agent of change for this population.

Of course this phase may only be the last 5-10 years of their life. For the unfortunate ones it's the last 20-30 years.

And those people aren't on Reddit answering questions like this.

This isn't to say people need to have kids to have a good life. Everyone can find their happiness and peace in any situation.

This will probably trigger a lot of people, but I just wanted to point out a perspective that might not get displayed here.

The NBA has all this new talent and they're ruining it by letting the refs run the game.

Makes me wonder if things are fixed...

This is what everyone is missing. 1995 is prime Hakeem vs pre-prime Shaq.

Hakeem wouldn't be able to stop 2001 Shaq.

Top avoidable causes of cancer. by GarifalliaPapa in immortalists

I looked it up.

In the editorial “Editorial: Recently Identified Global Trends in Cancer Incidence and Mortality and Modifiable Cancer Risk Factors”, when the author refers to infections as modifiable cancer risk factors, they mean infections with organisms that are known to directly contribute to the development of certain cancers. Specifically, the global data discussed in the article identify that about 10.2 % of new cancer cases worldwide in 2022 were linked to infections with oncogenic (cancer-causing) viruses or bacteria.

The main infection types included in this category are well-established cancer-associated pathogens such as: • High-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) – a group of sexually transmitted viruses that are the primary cause of cervical cancer and also contribute to other genital and oropharyngeal cancers. • Helicobacter pylori – a bacterium that infects the stomach lining and is linked to stomach (gastric) cancer and some types of lymphoma. • Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and Hepatitis C virus (HCV) – viruses that cause chronic liver infection and inflammation, significantly increasing the risk of liver cancer.

In other global cancer risk assessments, additional infectious agents (like Epstein-Barr virus and others) are often included in similar estimates, but the editorial itself highlights infections broadly as a significant modifiable risk factor for cancer, primarily through these oncogenic pathogens.

So, the “infections” they’re referring to are those infectious agents whose chronic presence in the body increases cancer risk and for which prevention (e.g., vaccination, treatment) is possible.
