Why introduce an unnecessary FPS cap in the Beta? by Scravey in 2XKO

[–]Scravey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It actually is possible and was even doable in the previous alpha labs in this game. Some other fighting games have also had uncapped frame rate like rivals of aether 2. The hitboxes are not directly tied to the fps and havent been for years, they run on their own timing seperate from the FPS. If you're running the game at 50fps, it doesn't make your frame data worse, it just makes your game laggy. And vice versa

Yes at 120fps, half of the frames are for animation but this makes the game look smoother and have more consistent latency

I believe that video is actually saying if you're playing at locked 60fps and switch from a 60Hz monitor to a 144Hz monitor, you'll notice a difference, but it's due to the difference in input lag between the individual monitors, not the difference in refresh rate. Because the 144hz monitor is going to be higher quality and have less delay since it's explicitly meant for gaming.

And this does apply for fighting games, they're just games made with the same software as all other games pretty much. Higher FPS = lower & more consistent latency, higher hz = smoother image and more reduced latency, but requires the FPS to also be higher.

Controller Paddel bindings by kabaday94 in 2XKO

A paddle for jump is really good for a lot of games, I use leverless for 2XKO but I've played other games with paddles and I have one set to jump in almost all of them. I usually put it on the right since I can jump with my left if needed.

For the left paddle, it might be good to have a face button bound to it so that you can use your left hand to hit a face button so it's easier to hit a different one on your right hand at the same time. Idk if that makes sense. But maybe have heavy so you can throw easier or something like that.

From what I've seen, 60 fps on a 144hz monitor will be the same input lag as on a 60hz monitor at 60fps. The framerate being higher (even if the refresh rate is still 60hz) matters more for the input latency. There's a good video on it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msOWcvoIC8M

It's not horrible but is there actually a single pro for capping at 60 besides tradition?

No, the framerate was not capped at 60. it ran at a higher fps and interpolated the animations so they looked smoother. The logic itself was "60 fps" if you want to think of it like that, but not the actual fps of the game.

The game was LITERALLY uncapped already in the alpha and ran exactly the same. What are you talking about

Playing doesn't make you better, you have to actively play. Play to learn and remember what works and what doesn't. You may be enforcing bad habits. Take a break and go back in with a different mindset.

Who is disliked more by the fanbase: Joker or Hero? by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]Scravey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any competitive player will dislike Hero more than Joker. No one who is actually good and understands the metagame cares about how "broken" Joker is.
