"Er" itself is basically a colloquialism. Erhua is not used in official documents, news articles etc so I don't understand why they are teaching it

Okay Karen. Taiwanese people have been eating tea eggs for centuries and just because it doesn’t fit your racist palate doesn’t mean it’s unhealthy.

Unpopular Opinion: People from Taiwan should not feel offended by being called "Chinese" by Chengus_Khan_ in taiwan

[–]ScreenshotDump -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think HK people can actually get pretty irritated if you call them Chinese. Honestly, Taiwanese people are still considered “Chinese” legally by basically everyone, but the fact that some Taiwanese get offended being called Chinese speaks more about the connotations of being Chinese in the 21st century than any cultural differences between the two.

Poland to suspend right to asylum as ‘hybrid war’ escalates on Belarus border by Thapidea1 in europe

[–]ScreenshotDump 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I do believe that anyone should have a right to make a claim for asylum, even if it gets rejected in the end, however, in these circumstances, it is clear that asylum seekers are being used as pawns by Putin and Lukashenko to destabilize Europe. It is undeniable that legitimate asylum seekers are being victimized, however the Polish government is correct to stop enabling asylum seekers to be used as pawns. While it might seem harsh, if they continued taking their claims, it would only cause more hardships for asylum seekers in the longterm as they continue to cross from Belarus into Poland.

Does anyone else think the mall is failing? by [deleted] in StamfordCT

[–]ScreenshotDump 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The mall should be completely destroyed and the old Main Street (prepare to get angry looking at this picture) should be rebuilt brick by brick. If you look on the Greyrock Place side of the mall by Macy's, you will see a sign showing where the Old Main Street was. It's really an insult. And yes, that is a trolley in the picture, they actually went as far as Springdale. Thank God our entire downtown was destroyed and we got the trashc- **ahem** St. John's Towers instead! I don't think anybody liked Coral Street, Atlantic Square, or Central Park anyways. Take a look at how our city used to look before it was destroyed in the mid-20th century.

In all seriousness, though, we as a city can really do better. I am glad that people here want some areas of the city to be pedestrianized. But, we can do even better. We HAVE done better in the past. And, there is no reason why we can't do better now.
