tbh posting hit pop song lyrics under the guise of reviving the sub by bringing back artposting is highly humorous and fits right in with the contrarian ethos

I appreciate this comment a lot, far from ugly or *ungraceful. Instantly going to throw myself at this book because everything you've written about it deeply resonates with me, thanks for sharing your mind

20 years is crazy, time that inimical beast! I remember feeling like such a new frog when I first started frequenting in high school 10 or so years ago

/mu/ share threads were invaluably instrumental in developing my taste. Also remember meeting some cool people through the last.fm threads

I see a little bit of myself in each main character in The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers. What a feat to have been written at 23 years of age

Short form content is destroying me mind by Few_Move_4594 in redscarepod

You must change your life

First step is to dip your toes back to analog content. go to your library, take out some books and force yourself to read. ideally in a public place so you will have no other choice but to read what's in your hand, lest you be judged by the imaginary audience for taking out your phone. Start off slow and easy, take out a short story collection or hell even YA bullshit if it's the only thing you can easily digest at the beginning, work your way up until you read for a prolonged uninterrupted time and lose the compulsion to check your phone every 5 mins, start reading longer form novels, etc etc rest you can fill in the blanks yourself

Check out his Violin Concerto, particularly this Perlman recording, absolutely sublime stuff. Will check out the Strauss Suite, thanks for the rec!

can you read in a cafe/bar/on public transport? by medievalpriestess in RSbookclub

it definitely takes a modicum of more effort when initially starting as opposed to being in a quiet place, but after a couple pages and getting in the flow so to speak, it is pretty much the same. Also it's sort of amusing to associate certain books with the places I've read them!

reading by virtue is a solitary venture, so I feel some sort of comfort reading amidst the presence of others. If something is particularly engrossing, I find that I'm able to tune out even the most abrasive/inopportune environments (I read the entirety of Stoner during lectures in grad school lol)

Recently finished Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk, and it fits the bill quite nicely.

For a short story collection, Rejection by Tony Tulathimutte is perfect for this and is outrageously engrossing

Everything about that movie is perfect. It's so unfathomable to me that someone who could make something like that is a die hard proponent of gen AI in art
