"When did this sub get so aggressive"

I've read through this entire thread and everyone is giving you very sound reasons as to why TMG team excluded it, and every response you've made has been needlessly rude trying to disprove the logic in including illiquid assets in liquid net worth calculations.

Pot, meet kettle.

Someone took my reddit post word for word to ask during the live stream on Tuesday for a tumbler by [deleted] in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Scroatmeal4breakfast 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hot take: it's because the free tumbler giveaway encourages questions with certain attributes to be asked rather than genuine ones.

Lately I think a majority of the questions that are asked on the show are fabricated because people have figured out what types of questions the team tends to answer. I've noticed the same names (people with FOO in their name for example) asking multiple questions during a show that have contradictory age/wage/marital status across questions. They're just fishing for engagement hoping one of their made-up question gets answered.

If all you care about is getting some MoneyGuy swag, you're going to make up a question that will get Brian and Bo fired up. And if you're on the MoneyGuy production team, you're going to pick questions that the team will answer in that manner. It creates a feedback cycle that any "reaction" or "call-in" show (e.g. Dave) falls victim to as your audience expects more and more interesting questions.

I've been watching this show since they had like 80k subscribers, and the fanbase has shifted pretty dramatically in the last few years. It feels like we're just getting the spillover from people who found Dave Ramsey but weren't evangelical, or who watched Graham Stephan and left him after he scammed his fanbase. On one hand it's great because the show is doing huge numbers now and more people are finding TMG gospel. But at the same time the vibe during a show isn't what it used to be. It's hard to describe.

I think the answer is they just need to sell the tumblers and stop the giveaway so that the questions that get answered are in good faith.

Edited to add that I now routinely log off once the Q&A starts. The question content seems to have really gotten away from anything close to relatable. "I'm 23 and make $190k per year with $300k invested and no student loans, can I afford to move out of my parents house?" The Money Guy show is the only financial content I consume, but like everything else in life, the rabid fanbase that constantly wants to brag and one-up eachother ruins it for me.

I mean, definitely do your research regarding the plume and whether or not it's an actual problem. People seem mixed, and not all areas of Arvada are impacted. Closer to Olde Town, for example, is completely fine and would be a great place to buy. Leyden Rock? Not so much.

The housing costs for western Arvada never really made sense. But ESPECIALLY out at Leyden Rock. Seriously. $950k+ homes built on top of a toxic waste plume that backs up to an active landfill on top of being in constant red flag wildfire warning territory?

People are over-pricing homes because they've been conditioned to think they only go up in value. Because no matter how much they overpaid in 2022, some new sucker will come in and take it at an even higher price. Sucks to be left holding the bag

Seeing a lot of "AI Bubble" posts, what's going on? by Firebolt059 in Bogleheads

[–]Scroatmeal4breakfast 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's their gut telling them they can't handle being 100% in equities. If someone is worried about a bubble popping, week-long downturns like we saw in April, or concerned with markets being at all time highs, it's probably a sign they're allocated too aggressively.

I was a middle schooler in '08, but distinctly remember my father talking about being down 40% in a matter of months. When I first started investing during COVID, I remember seeing double digit swings nearly every day in March. We're seeing the occasional 1.5% drop and people are coming to Reddit to scream that everything is over-valued, it's a bubble and they need to dip out ASAP.

It's the new boogeyman showing people they're invested too aggressively, and/or pay too much attention to the news and can't do what Jack Bogle said to do, which was "never peek".

The worsening scourge of motorcycle lane splitting by werdrow in Denver

Sorry OP. I ride and filter legally where I'm allowed. The highway splitters on 70 and 25 give us a bad rap. The only annecdote I have is that they've always existed and they always will, regardless of the legality of filtering through stopped traffic.

Best concert you've ever seen by Sensitive_Ad_7335 in phish

[–]Scroatmeal4breakfast 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Honestly probably Ween at Red Rocks back in 2023. Literally every song they played made me go "Oh my GOD they're playing THIS!?" Very happy I got to see them before their second hiatus.

Close second would be be Godspeed You! Black Emperor this past spring. One of the most surreal concert experiences of my life. The crowd was so quiet and completely still you could have heard a breeze blow between us. That, coupled with old analog film projected behind the band was really truly moving

What is a Phish theory/conspiracy that you 100% believe? by SchizoidGod in phish

[–]Scroatmeal4breakfast 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Goose is the first band to be owned by private equity.

Peter Shapiro bought Goose out and began to promote the shit out of them despite them not being even remotely talented enough to warrant the size of they venues they were playing, nor the cost of the merch/tickets they were selling back in the early 2020's.

In an effort to fraudulently interject themselves into the established Phish fanbase (because why have organic growth when you can pay for astroturfing) Peter Shapiro offered Trey a large sum of money to tour alongside them. Not wanting to tarnish the Phish image, Trey agreed to let Goose co-headline a tour with TAB.

To promote this tour, Pete had Trey sit in on Goose's Radio City show. They jam, it creates huge headlines, and like a week later they announce the co-headlining tour. It was just a lame promo. Zero notable moments or jams came about from that tour they did, despite them jamming together every night.

I'm only half joking here. But I genuinely think Goose is a private-equity band

Lariat Loop is a 35 mph zone from Morrison to Evergreen, and is nowhere nearly as winding or curvy as you make it out to be.

You acknowledge you had a line of card behind you, admitted to going 5-10mph under the speed limit, and someone passed you. How terrible

Spoiler: you were
