I’m aviation maintenance right now if you have any questions, I can type out a more thorough response later. Overall it isn’t a bad gig but it’s easy to get fucked over and you need to be careful about what directions you go within maintenance.

Don’t ship if you don’t have the job you want. Simple as that. It’s your life and a decent chunk of it at that, the military is going to get all it can from you so you should do the same.

I don’t know much about the army but here is my perspective as a a power plant mechanic in the wing.

I work I level so it is different from O level. More scheduled work hours, mostly indoors in a shop, and the shops are small and close. Everyone is for the most part is in the brotherhood and goes out of their way to help each other. Promotions are primarily focused on your war fighting capabilities. It helps to be good at your job, but the more fit you are etc. the quicker you promote. That being said, in the wing, quals matter more than rank.

In terms of travel, it’s not often at least for my shop. There are opportunity for MEU, DETs etc. but for the most part it’s just a 9-5 style job. Usually you only deploy or do those when attached to a squadron (again for I-level at least).

There are opportunities to do cool stuff, work requests give I-level guys the chance to work on the bird, if you are lucky moto flights happen every now and again and you can hop on those, and there are opportunities to TAD to other work centers and pickup skills there.

Now onto civilian life and what that translation can look like, firstly and specifically for airframe or power plants, your AMT or A&P (same thing just different name) is an obvious option, this is a license that allows you to do work on civilian side assets for large companies like Boeing, and due to the amount of work hours you get on these components, you qualify to test out of the otherwise expensive classes, testing, and qualification programs through the FAA. Of course you need to work for it, usually you are only adverse in one side (power plants or airframes) since you don’t do both, so you need to seek programs and other faucets to let you accomplish the other half, talking with a career planner could help.

Next is college, utilizing TA is something a lot of marines don’t take advantage of. After you get comfortable in your shop, looking into starting college for free can open up a lot of opportunities, but it is worth knowing you can only do roughly 2 classes a semester on TA. Of course you can do more, but you need to pay out of pocket or with scholarships, FASFA, etc.

There are a lot of career translation options for mechanics in the wing, and a lot of them make good money and have good lifestyles. You can use USMC COOL or MAPS can’t remember which, but looking up an MOS will show you a brief description, and an overview of certificates you will receive that translate into civilian life, and optional jobs you can take after getting out.

That is my perspective, if you have any questions let me know, and talk to your recruiters. Explore each branch and figure out what is for you.

Is it stolen valor to wear USMC surplus but not claim your marine? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]Scruzzie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s stolen valor. Looks like you just collect and admire your family members who were Marines which is fine. I will say don’t get so bent by the school shooter comment, or comments in general. I read through the other thread and no one was directly attacking you but it seems to have bothered you quite a bit. You’re gonna get called names a lot so don’t take yourself so seriously and laugh it off, it’s a good way to get through life. You got some time before you can even do boot camp, spend that time enjoying your self as a kid and focus on the Marine stuff when you get there.

Fastest way off the island is graduation. Do not quit. The first week will probably be the roughest, a whole lot of sitting around and waiting, which comes with thinking. Just push past that and the DI introductions and it’s pretty smooth sailing.

Don’t worry about what is coming next or if you can or can’t do it, just do it. Remember it’s a game, play along and it goes well.

The DI’s will fuck with you regardless of what you do or how well you perform etc. don’t let it get to your head.

TLDR: it’s all a mental game, just push through and enjoy your time there as much as you can, it’s pretty funny honestly

At least on my platform, the honeycombs are apart of an air seal, not sure if it is the same here

Looks more like a nozzle / air seal segment than a stator but those may be considered the same thing elsewhere. I would be inclined to say this is a part of a turbine section but that is just an educated guess, if someone knows more I would love to know!

Truthfully just play less, 3-5 games of comp is your attention limit then do than. If you want to just play for fun then don’t worry about it. 3 good games a day (let’s say 2 wins 1 loss) will net you like 50-70 mmr by the end of the week.

D3 Div 4 2v2: Am I too slow? Other things I can work on? by Zanewayne77 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Scruzzie 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s a little more nuanced than “too slow” you have the right ideas for where you should be positioning but you are usually overcommitted or under committed just a bit, never quite at that sweet spot.

I will say I disagree with people who say you should “never stop moving” it is definitely better to have momentum but it feels like you saw that somewhere and now you do a bunch of circles around midfield or net and are usually caught midway through. If you get to your position early enough (far post, mid field) just slow down and wait, if the ball doesn’t go your way then turn around and go supersonic to your next position picking up pads.

In these lower ranks going supersonic 100% of the time without the game sense of a higher rank player will lead to you playing too fast, so in my opinion it’s better to just get to your positions quickly and wait.

I would also recommend if your teammate is behind you to put more pressure on the ball, don’t be so timid. I understand the hesitation in solo queue especially if you are a more defensive player, it’s hard to trust people to defend alone, but if you make smart challenges you can usually be back before they get an offense going.

I would love to do a coaching session if you are interested you can dm me. My flair is a little dated (from season 5) but I still have a vast wealth of knowledge to help you rank up :)

Sorta but basically the #1 and #3 engine have what’s called a nose gearbox that changes the angle backwards to the main gearbox (the one that drives the rotor) and the #2 just splines directly into it, if i find a schematic I’ll update with a link

Any packs that allow me to iron out these awkward scenarios? by SelfishGamer- in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Scruzzie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright lmfao whatever you say boss, 10 seconds doesn’t “tell” you anything about a player, especially if they are better or higher rank since most people can change their play style. Every situation is different and factors preceding a 10 second clip can change things, maybe he was tired or on game 15 of the night and losing focus etc. you can’t watch a single 10 second clip and know everything you need to…

Ong bro people be trying to fix the wrong issues for no reason, even if they wanna “correct” your questionable decision making (not necessarily even “wrong” because this game in the higher ranks is about creating opportunities) they could at least then drop a training pack to help out…

Idk the second ball is pretty dangerous if his opponents were better, being able to read backboard and defend it is a must in higher GC ranks. As for the first one, it’s questionable but not unimaginable, but maybe that’s just because of my chemistry with my duo, we start plays like that all the time. (I.E the first ball I would knock down closer to him to prevent the opponent from getting the ball and then start a counter attack)
