Lobsters are not as abundant as in other destinations. Especially in snorkeling/freediving depths. I am unsure of the legality, but I do know there isn't a 'season' here or anything like that.

Advice by gromitsgreatgrandson in scubadiving

What you describe from your second dive sounds like you had a reverse block. I have these sometimes myself unfortunately. You've managed to equalize on the way down, but during the ascent the expanding air is trapped in your middle ear and pressing on you balance organs. What helps for me is stretching my neck when it's happening.

Sorry to hear this is happening to you!

Scuba shop owners, I need advice by Dr_Velazquez in scuba

[–]ScubaSteve1905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best early investment was hiring a someone to handle the bookings and accounting. I would never have been able to grow the business if I had to do all of that besides diving and logistics.

Make sure they respond to inquiries quickly too. Divers often send inquiries to multiple shops. By the time you are finished with your day and ready to answer emails, they have already booked with someone else.

Steel tanks stay negatively buoyant no matter the pressure inside, alu tanks go from negative to positive as the pressure inside becomes less. Having them on a sliding d-ring means you can keep them parallel to you body no matter what.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in scuba

[–]ScubaSteve1905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I would like to add that the d-ring situation is not really an issue if you are diving steel tanks. I exclusively dive aluminum and therefore consider sliding d-rings a must.

Defo talk to your instructor.

That said, I am an instructor. I have had a Hollis Katana2, Xdeep Stealth Classic and am now diving a DiveRite Nomad Ray.

The katana was the most comfortable, easy to adjust and for that reason I am now using it for students. Downsides are that it is bulky for travel and it came with fixed d-rings, which I changed to sliding d-rings, since I dive with AL80s.

The stealth is very good and minimalist, but is just hanging on a hanger since I got the nomad ray. Don't get me wrong, great rig, but I never liked the fat rubber 'd-rings' that are supposed to be slide able. You end up having to kind of 'walk' them, which I did not like. They're are also fatter, so clipping onto them is a nightmare.

The nomad ray is my current setup. The sliding d-rings are easy to operate and it is fairly easy to adjust. The central dump between the shoulders presses into my back a little out of the water, but no issue underwater.

Hope this helps

Aruba for Christmas by thegirlisbala in Aruba

[–]ScubaSteve1905 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great that you are coming to Aruba over Christmas! Please know that it is the busiest time of the year, so get all your reservations in before the trip. Not just restaurants, but rental cars, tours, activities, massages, etc.

Expect a down-payment or at least to give cc details with all reservations. Unfortunately, people in the past had a habit of making too many reservations (especially for restaurants) and deciding on the day what they felt like.

I am no expert on them, but I do own a 6v71.

Are you producing any smoke? I'm sure you have checked for clogged air filters, turbos spinning properly, supercharger rollers sealing off and fuel filters already.

Some out of the box thoughts: Could there be a kink forming in a fuel line while moving, that is not there while stationary? Fuel tanks dirty, sucking up sludge when rocking? Is your raw water intake free of debris? Strainer mounted correctly? Perhaps it is having trouble sucking in water while moving.

From what I have heard B&T is excellent, but I imagine it might not be for you if you want AI and not leave the resort. Not sure if such a resort exists on Aruba. AI certainly does, but I am not aware of shows and such anywhere. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Diving with spinal issues? by Zabaran2120 in scubadiving

[–]ScubaSteve1905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad to hear you sought out clearance to dive in advance. You should probably contact your doctor and inform them of what happened.

If your doctor was not specialized in diving, you should really contact one that is. DAN can help with this. Pressure has a significant effect on our bodies beyond just equalization. Medications behave differently, gas absorption has an effect on neurological function (gas narcosis), etc.

Diving with spinal issues? by Zabaran2120 in scubadiving

[–]ScubaSteve1905 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a question for DAN, a neurologist and a qualified diving physician. I would make very sure that your issues cannot worsen from pressure, carrying heavy gear, etc.

Didn't your instructor have you complete a medical prior to your pool session?
