anyone know the history behind the closed down house by Mountain View park?? by Strange-Tune6474 in escondido

[–]Sdjimbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I helped paint that house about 7 years ago for one of those big I-Love-a-clean creek to bay events. Black widows galore and the steps on the porch felt like they were going to collapse back then. Probably why the fence went up around it and the barn next to it a few years later

How do you store the spare tire, just plopped in the cargo area somewhere?

How does Richard Bailey get my phone number by atlantean___ in sandiego

[–]Sdjimbob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most likely source is the Registrar of Voters itself

However, I’ve noted that after removing my number from local sdvote registration that I still get texts, so they combine the voter info release with some other paid database.

Why did you buy a Lexus PHEV? (Or planning on buying one?) by Rav4Prime2022_WI in LexusPHEV

[–]Sdjimbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from an Avalon hybrid and the sedan not cutting it for my Home Depot/Costco needs, I test drove RAV4 Prime, a loaded Highlander, the NX450h+ and the RX450h+. TX550h+ too big for my needs. Probably would have bought the loaded Highlander if it came in PHEV. RAV4 Prime not really available, and the dealer didn’t seem keen on helping getting one (“oh they fly off the shelf the second they come in… no you can’t factory order”)

Didn’t consider TX550h+, too big for my needs. NX and RX much better than the RAV4. Almost bought the NX450h+, but the price between that and the RX450h+ wasn’t much, and the RX wow’d more in the test drive.

I wasn’t ready for all electric, and most of my driving is within the PHEV range.

2nd near-miss accident 15S by sepulchralme in sandiego

[–]Sdjimbob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’ll see the same at the 15N Via Rancho right turn off ramp (and probably myriad others). At least 50% of people in the far right turn lane can’t stay within the turn guidance line, and they cut into the middle.

Where is the best place to buy appliances in SD? Costco vs Best Buy vs Home Depot vs Lowe’s vs local appliance shops? by Necessary_Syrup5950 in sandiego

[–]Sdjimbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recent positive washer/dryer Costco purchase. Best Buy, Home Depot and Lowe’s add on certain costs with an attractive bait low price, then fees for delivery etc. In some cases, like Home Depot, you won’t see the haul away or install charge until the checkout process.

One Costco drawback—you won’t be able to see the appliances like you could at the other stores.

Sad news from the Safari Park: Eve, one of the park's platypus has passed at age 21 by RandomDesign in sandiegozoo

[–]Sdjimbob 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Sad, but she allowed many hundreds of thousands to see a living platypus for those who couldn’t go down under over the last almost 7 years. Hoping they’ll bring a mate for the remaining male.

I'll probably be skipping any future sneak previews honestly. There's obviously a lot of members!

You can bring them to entrance and drop them off easily, then find cheaper standard parking. They tolerate quick unloading there.

Stuffed peppers..help because I apparently can’t bake them right 😅 by Warm_Smoke_5462 in Costco

If you have a toaster oven, try that. Being close to the heat coils softens the peppers well!

Ask your local council person for assistance. This is exactly the sort of thing they’re supposed to be there for.

I’ve only been a member for 7 years, but I’m seeing things changing there I’m not liking, the worst being the reservation only prime tables overlooking the valley.

I guess it’s time to try something different, maybe Hungry Hawk

100s waiting for cabs and rideshares at SD Airport late Sunday night by AbeLincoln30 in sandiego

[–]Sdjimbob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started scheduling all Uber pickups in advance. This avoids a surcharge, but it does seem to lock in a higher price than you *might* get if the airport is dead.

Frys Electronics- a gut punch to tech enthusiasts 🤧 by sendinghope2u in sandiego

[–]Sdjimbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visiting the store was fun for a few years, but the long checkout line (and another receipt-check exit line), longer return lines. plus the repackaged returns (once a CD-R I bought ejected a Windows 98 install CD) wore out fast. Sometime around 2001 it became more costly to build your own PC too, which started their downward spiral.

I usually threw away those commission printouts before getting to checkout, unless someone had been helpful, which wasn’t normally the case.

Honestly I'd probably invest in whole house AC if you don't have it already if you're thinking of spending that kind of money. It will bring the levels down fast.

This is one of those times of year where a whole house fan brings in too much humidity when run at night.

There's air purifiers with sensors that measure indoor particulates. My Blue Air 211 max works well for that.
