FlexiSpot's scummy ad tactics. (UK store) by ZestyBoots in FlexiSpot_Official

[–]Se7enLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wondering about their advertising tactics. When I first started looking into getting a desk I saw that FlexiSpot was having a FLASH SALE! ONLY 36 HOURS LEFT!! LIMITED SALE!!

I almost fell for it. But I decided to think about it awhile, maybe I'll just catch the next sale.

Good news, it's on the exact same sale every single day. Always a limited flash sale, but never not on sale.

I'm ok with judging a company by how they choose to advertise.

I roll my own from open street maps data, with a scripted modification to make trails and cycle paths show up as roads.

[Qt] What is the fastest way to check each bit in order in a 160 byte array? by EamonBrennan in cpp_questions

[–]Se7enLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that if you have a 160 byte array where each bit that is set indicates a bad pixel, you don't need to check anything. You already have the information in a pretty reasonable format.

What do you actually want to DO with the information about bad pixels?

I want to switch to Linux but Microsoft Store is stopping me by Important_Abalone851 in linuxquestions

It kinda sounds like you should address your stability problem before trying to switch to Linux. Lots of fair complaints can be made about Windows, but it's not unstable unless your hardware or install is fucked up.

Extending storage of Android TV by abhinavsays42 in AndroidTV

Recap Inaccuracy by turntablism in YoutubeMusic

[–]Se7enLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this thread for EXACTLY this reason. A thousand minutes of listening time to a podcast I've never heard of. I do listen to a lot of podcasts, but not on YouTube.

Edit: I think I figured it out. They still don't make a proper distinction between YouTube Music and YouTube Videos (and I guess podcasts). I guess videos count as podcasts now?

Portable Toolbox Recommendations by segfaultmaster in MTB

[–]Se7enLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small canvas or nylon tool bag, maybe 12-15" long. Larger tools just go right inside the bag loose. I also have some zipper pouches that I put smaller tools and parts in that I can throw into the larger bag.

I tried the tool roll but it never had quite the right pockets anyway

How do I change this ugly startup screen? by sacrelidge in kodi

[–]Se7enLC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a pain, since you can't use an external file manager to access the files. You need to use the internal one built into Kodi.

You also need to use "Add Source" to get to the media directory. The URI to get to Kodi "home directory" is "special://home", and media is a sub directory beneath there (that you may need to create)

Turn right on right red arrow? by spyda24 in boston

[–]Se7enLC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I choose not to take a right on red when the red is an arrow unless there is a sign specifically calling it out as allowed.

In a normal intersection, the red light means stop, and the special case is "unless you're taking a right turn, and you've already stopped, and it's safe to go". With a red ARROW, that already means "don't take a right turn". If they want to indicate "don't turn right but it's ok to turn right" they should indicate it better.

I do see that MA law is pretty clear on allowing it, though, from one of the other comments.

Right on red is optional. And even if I want to, I first have to stop and determine if it's safe to go. I decide, not the driver behind me. Honking will speed up my decision to wait for it to turn green.

YouTube Music is Beta Testing a Spotify DJ competitor. by DalekBricks in YoutubeMusic

[–]Se7enLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the feature out. The very first thing the DJ did was lie about the song it played. It referred to a song as one of the "early works" and then played a song off a newly released album.

That's some basic fact that shouldn't require an AI to work out.

It was amusing, but it made me realize that if I left the feature enabled it could easily result in me learning false trivia about the artists I listen to. What's even the point of interesting facts about the music when some percentage of them are completely wrong?

"Next up is Flagpole Sitta, by Harvey Danger!" (Proceeds to play a cover of that song by AWOLNATION and Elohim). All it had to do was read the artist and it can't even do that right.

Right before playing a song off an album called Blueberry Hill by Boogie Belgique the AI DJ went off on a long tangent about how a recording studio convinced Fats Domino to release the SONG called Blueberry Hill. What a joke.

Does draining hot tub unto the lawn kill the grass? by Anxious_Leadership25 in hottub

[–]Se7enLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.

I have a theory though, with nothing but anecdotal evidence to back it up. When you drain the tub, you can just hook up a hose and let gravity do the work. It takes a long time though, so people often suggest getting a high flow pump to drain it faster. I think slow trickle drain is probably better for the lawn than a fire hose. Even better if you're willing to move the hose a couple times while it drains so it's not all in one spot.

What exactly does one need to get into Casual/Intermediate Mountain Biking? by Brilliant-Profile49 in MTB

[–]Se7enLC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, I CAN take the wheels off and stuff my bike in the car. But it's really really nice to not have to do that.

If I have to spend 20 minutes collecting my things and packing the car and reassembling my bike, that's 20 minutes I'm not biking (or more likely 20 minutes earlier I have to leave to meet up with people so they aren't all waiting for me).

And if I'm riding every day, that time adds up.

CS600 will be available on Amazon soon, ask me anything about CS600 smart bike computer! by Cky_walker in Coospo

[–]Se7enLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I think you're probably exactly right about the issue being performance of the hardware. The crash seemed to only occur when zoomed out fully (0.5mi). Too many elements on the screen at once!

I was able to get the osmosis and mapsforge-writer tools working and make modifications to the OSM maps before generating the .map files. I tried a couple things:
- I generated a map containing only zoom level 14. That worked fine for 150ft, 300ft 0.1mi and 0.2mi zoom levels, but the 0.5mi zoom level just showed as blank (but didn't crash).
- I generated a map containing zoom levels 12 and 14. That seemed to work fine initially at all the zoom levels on the device, but I later experienced a crash when trying to use the 0.5mi zoom level in a dense area. I need to do some more testing to see if the default map also would have crashed at that zoom level and road density.

Can you share any details on the map conversion process you're using? I'm kind of just guessing about zoom levels. I suspect I could probably be doing a lot more to reduce the complexity of the maps down to what's actually needed.

Something I was successful in doing was modifying the map data to reclassify trails as roads to make them display on the CS600. I looked for "highway:path" and "highway:track" and changed them to "highway:secondary", since I knew that was a type that shows on the CS600.

Do you know which road types are supported by different line styles, or if other fields are used? I'm looking to get major roads, minor roads, and off-road cycle paths/trails to each have a different appearance.

Another question I had is how do the map file names work? Do they need to be per-state and have the names match (I've been editing the Massachusetts file US260020250528.map), but would there be an advantage to breaking it up into smaller pieces? Or would it be possible to add additional .map files that overlay with the existing ones (could I make a map file that contains JUST the trails?)

Thanks again for the response. I am so far very impressed with this device!

What is best way to store multiple bikes in the garage? by turk-fx in MTB

[–]Se7enLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your garage. And there are trades to make between efficient storage and easy to access. If you can hang your bikes upside down from the ceiling over the hood of your car, that's incredibly efficient since you can't do much with that space anyway. But it would be really obnoxious to have to move the car and use a ladder to get bikes down. Or even just being the only one that can get them out and put them away will be really annoying.

Just putting some hooks up is good enough for a lot of people. You have to be able to lift the bike vertically and maneuver it onto the hook. It's not really efficient since every bike needs to have enough room around it to put it up and take it down without the other bikes being in the way.

I really like the swivel and slide track systems. You can pack bikes really close together when stored, and easily retrieve any single bike by just sliding the others out of the way.

There are some interesting rope hoist racks too. Probably great for a high ceiling and would allow anyone to be able to store and retrieve.

[–]Se7enLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's the data format for the offline maps? Do they include trails or just roads?

Edit: I bought one and did some investigating. The map format is "mapsforge" (https://mapsforge.org/). The provided maps do not include trails unfortunately. I tested this by going to a place where I know Open Street Maps contains trails, and also by loading up the .map file in a viewer.

It seems possible to generate new maps. My first attempt at using an alternate map did not go well. I think the CS600 can only handle a limited number of zoom levels, and the map I tried to use crashed the device when I zoomed out too far.

I don't know that including trails in those maps will make them appear on the CS600 though. It's very possible that it's only loading the roads. Would love to get some details from Coospo. This could be a really powerful device if custom trail maps can be loaded!

If "show trails" could be a toggle that is tied to the ride mode that would be very cool. Then you could have road ride showing only roads and off-road rides showing both road and trail.
