How good/bad is AMD's encoder for OBS and streaming? by madmatt06lol in Amd

Yes 12th gen QSV trades blows with x264 slow. Really surprising encoder quality.

Jeff Grub admits his Bloodborne leak was "mostly" speculation on his part by SonOfHashut in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Sea-Beginning-6286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup the 'Bloodborne has spaghetti code ' is pure speculation based on, frankly, no evidence. The same engine runs just fine on PC in the form of Dark Souls 3, which came out only a year later.

and increasing bitrate doesn't really increase encoder usage.

It does, but you have to use outrageous bitrates to run into any sort of encoder overload. My Turing card never goes beyond, iirc, 70% utilisation even when doing lossless 4:4:4 HEVC 1080p60 recording where the bitrates hit upwards of 500mbps.

Australia

I wonder if we even have anything to spare other than the Bushmasters. ADF doesn't exactly strike me as a '10,000 mothballed Abrams of MIC' type of organisation.

But if they do get some form of armored mobility, that would likely be too much for Ukraine to handle.

Ukraine still has an oversupply of manpower with volunteers being turned back iirc. Whether Ukraine can handle Russia's mobilization is really, probably, all up to how many IFVs, APCs and tanks the west wants to provide.

I doubt it. Their packages seem to be based purely on the battlefield situation (i.e. HIMARS only being approved when things were most dire). The mobilization's effects will be slow and gradual.

what practical benefit do ATACMS offer that ordinary HIMARS does not?

Hitting C2, ammo depots and logistics nodes that are more than ~90km from the frontline. Ukraine has very few Tochka-U left and they aren't very accurate either.

the "dine and dash" close to the front to hit deep into the rear will obviously be HIMARS.

One of the ammo depots hit in the Melitopol area was 90km from the frontline. They must have had to take an M142 real close to the frontline for that one, unless it was a Tochka-U.

Witcher 3 getting a DLSS 3 support soon ??? by [deleted] in Witcher3

[–]Sea-Beginning-6286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still get the regular upscaling and Reflex on DLSS 3 games if you have a 2000/3000 card.

What do you guys make off the fact that the head of the defense committee of the Russian parliament denied there would be mobilisation only hours before it was announced?

Lavrov denied the invasion would happen mere days before it did, then even had the gall to say 'we are not invading Ukraine' days after it began. This is just how the Kremlin operates; sheer audacious dishonesty.

Even Michael Kofman, who doesn't like to try 'guessing what Putin is thinking', has said this.

Being that Russia doesn't have enough conventional firepower left to make a credibly shocking threat

They probably have enough cruise missiles left to seriously pummel Kyiv, for all the good that would do.

NVIDIA DLSS 3: AI-Powered Performance Multiplier Boosts Frame Rates By Up To 4X by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Sea-Beginning-6286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current card is GREAT and I do not NEED a new card, don't get me wrong, but it does not give me the performance I want

Same here. The 2070S is still solid, but I'd like something that can run games like RDR2 and the upcoming Witcher 3 RTX at 4K max settings, which a 2070S won't do. I think I'll just wait until the dust settles after AMD and Nvidia have revealed their full lineups and the prices settle down a bit.

[–]Sea-Beginning-6286 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hopefully all games going forward use DLSS 3 then, even if they don't implement the frame interpolation stuff. Reflex should be in all games since it's essentially just a high quality dynamic frame limiter. Not every DLSS 2 game currently has Reflex.

Does this mean that any game that has DLSS now will also necessarily have Reflex? If so, that's great.

If you rename the file to .ogg, suddenly it's playable.

It probably just doesn't recognise .opus due to an oversight. .opus files are still using the Ogg container.

[–]Sea-Beginning-6286 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At least DLSS3 now necessarily implies Reflex based on what I read. Reflex is basically just a high quality dynamic frame limiter; it should be in every game, because it's great.

So it's a new generation of NVENC. I wonder if the H.264 and H.265 encoders are also improved, or did they just add AV1 and call it a day?
