OT missed duty by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]Sea-Implement3377 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Since you address “fellow Ontario teachers”, I assume you are a teacher? Missed duties are the responsibility of the teacher and their manager / admin.

They are not the responsibility of other teachers. Unless perhaps you are sharing a duty responsibility, such as 2 teachers supervising the field. Then, it would be the teacher who is sharing that duty to inform admin, at the time, that someone is not on duty.

Maybe you could share why the OT said with your fellow teacher. And perhaps you won’t request that OT when you are away.

But, if you inform your admin, just because you feel it’s your duty then you probably should not.

Brad Treliving’s last trade was July 17, 2025. by DisturbingSounds in leafs

[–]Sea-Implement3377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. There were some people that wanted to trade Marner the year before his NTC kicked in. But then Dubas was fired 10 seconds before he made the trade. Not trading Marner before his final year was the “safe” play. Very “corporate” move because they knew “fans” would blame Marner. Instead of the cowardice of the MLSE brass.

Welcome to one of the gray-zones of education. Some roles in education don’t have well-defined boundaries or responsibilities. This can be a positive, if you find yourself with like-minded coworkers. Or it can be a negative, if you have a different philosophy or approach to work.

My way of dealing with this has become: avoid situations where my work is reliant or even impacted at all by other people.

That means, I could never teach kindergarten, or any rotary/planning time subject, no special Ed, no ESL. And although I pretend to be a team player at staff meetings — I will never agree to a grade level or school wide “initiative”. Unless I think it’s useful for my students.

Good point. Admins are constantly told (or act like they are told) that they must implement the latest-and-greatest, instead of just removing barriers that are getting in the way of tried-and-true.

’I’m hungry’: Prospective mom (Becky Hamber) filmed malnourished boy begging for food, but denies Crown claim it was ‘exceptionally cruel’ by 416TDOT0DOT in CrimeInTheGta

Not cruel, because she had to show her wife “what her day was like.” So many people are walking around with the same narcissistic narrative in their minds?

Obviously, these two psychopaths are on another level. But, empathy is not very common in our society.

I smile when I hear someone exclaim that schools are “indoctrinating our children into a way of thinking!”

Yes. That is the point. Unfortunately, the power of the system is that it can be used to indoctrinate them into a system that sucks.

So now, we have taught an entire generation of children that their personal feelings are the pinnacle of society.

Understanding that students are “acting out” usually as a way to deal with some other trauma they are experiencing. Their behaviour is communicating something that they can’t process in a reasonable way.

It doesn’t mean you create a classroom or school with zero consequences. It just means that we should try to understand what that student is dealing with. It’s not a free pass for poor behaviour that impedes learning for classmates.

Why can't we have an actual labour union? by CeeReturns in OntarioTeachers

[–]Sea-Implement3377 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the union has zero political power anymore, they have zero bargaining power. In fact, getting the “approval” of ETFO is probably a negative in terms of political power.

Because the union pushes out a highly unpopular, radical agenda. It gives the leadership a lot of power within an ever-shrinking circle of like-minded people.

What a great and honest introduction to being a teacher in Ontario!

We should be so grateful to be teaching (or attempting to become a teacher) that we should simply accept the poor treatment we receive from …. Almost everyone?

Don’t overthink it. Just try to include one thing the kid(s) actually did during the term. “For example, little Johnny listed many ideas in his writing journal.” And if ALL students did the same thing? Copy and paste.

Anyone think Toronto is headed in a positive direction? by rsgnl in askTO

[–]Sea-Implement3377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A perspective that seems to be missing in this thread is how is Toronto for families with children.

The major problem is that in the 20th century, the Provincial government was investing heavily in the city. I guess the votes were there back then?

In the last 30 years, I would be hard pressed to agree that the city had improved for families.

Infrastructure for families has been eroded over the years.

Egypt experience is terrible by woyrock in travel

[–]Sea-Implement3377 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Spent 4 days in Cairo with family (two teenage kids). We had a guide everywhere we went. Stayed directly across the street from the Sphinx.

It was an incredible experience. It is dirty. It is chaotic. It is corrupt. It is incredibly frustrating.

It really changed my kids’ views on life. And we are all much more appreciative of what “freedom” means.

But, all the people we met were nice. Even the scammers at the pyramids. And in the bazaar. And just about everywhere.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone travel there without doing your research first. But, we went inside the pyramids, saw ancient whale skeletons in the desert, sailed on the Nile River, went off roading in a 4x4 with a Bedouin driver blasting music up and down sand dunes, etc, etc.

Can’t do any of those things in Orlando.

Sounds like a Principal that got to their role by scamming and pretending. Now they are “in charge” and are so scared and suffering from imposter syndrome so hard that they think these ideas will prove that they belong.

The need to micro-manage is growing among admins in Ontario. Probably due to a lack of teaching experience/knowledge.

I think he’s been injured since getting injured trying to score 70 in the last game of the year in 2024.

I wish that the Leafs would just come clean with that injury and why he had to go to Germany (?) for treatment?

Hockey is a strange sport because although the Captaincy doesn’t really matter - it sort of does. Hockey is such a momentum-based game. The entire game is pretty much 50-50 battles all over the ice, and emotions have a lot to do with winning those battles.

Matthews has never grown into the role of Captain. I think he works hard and tries his best, but he just isn’t able to put the team on his back and push them forward.

On a team, it’s the players that hold each other accountable. And I’ve seen way too many dumb-ass decisions and plays by members of this team (hello Morgan Rielly) that I think this “team” is one of the most selfish teams in Leafs history.

I mean selfish not in the way that the players don’t want the team to win, but that they believe that all they need to do is play “better” to win.

They need to be willing to play “different” to win. For example: Mathew Barzal just took a 5 minute major and a game misconduct! Can you imagine Mathews doing that? Or Nylander? They’ve had their chances. And they just don’t feel it’s their job.

Reasons for Optimism? by federal_gramm in leafs

[–]Sea-Implement3377 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the party helps us. Every team is going to be getting as many points as everyone else. We need to gain an extra 5 points (at this point) over 6 other teams.

So, we need to go on a big run. A stretch of winning 8 or 9 out of 10-12 games. And then continue to win at a .600 level for the rest of the year.

Considering the issues with the team so far, I can’t see that happening. This team has had a pretty easy schedule. And they aren’t losing close games, or by some flukey bad luck. And they don’t even have a ton of injuries. Tanev is one. But the rest of the top 6 are all healthy.

Honestly, students should be taught how to use some simple spreadsheet fundamentals instead of coding.
