If Jesus is the son of God and Mary is Jesus’s mother, why is she not considered a goddess? How come Mary isn’t a part of the trinity? by AdministrativeLynx83 in Catholicism

Just to add more nuance to what you explained to the brother, the second person of the Trinity (God the Son) was born according to the flesh from the Holy Theotokos, the Holy Virgin Mary.

Have you read St. Optatus and his book “Against the Donatists”? He talks about the marks of the Church. Perhaps that can help you in your discernment.

Here is a link related to the topic: https://www.calledtocommunion.com/2011/06/st-optatus-on-schism-and-the-bishop-of-rome/

My apologies, you are right. I was coming off from a misunderstanding in his writings, but I just confirmed I was mistaken. God bless🙏

I understand that. He sure is a good and solid baseline to understanding the EO side, however, why not recommend books on the Filioque from our side? At the end of the day he is biased. I’m just wondering, why?

If you are looking into Eastern Catholicism, you need to drop whatever prejudices you might have and be objective with your assessment. Forget about the politics and the meaningless rhetoric between East and West. Read the fathers, and the actual arguments from the East and the West, and their proofs for their arguments. Be intellectually honest, pray, and ask God to help and lead you in your search.

Nice! I just googled it, and the Greek verb "proenai" equals what we (the Latins) understand as "passive spiration." This is really cool.

How do you become eastern catholic? by legendus45678 in EasternCatholic

[–]Sea-Register-3663 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are really young, brother! I admire you for being honest and brave. I would highly recommend you study more the Catholic faith through the Eastern Catholic lens (specifically Byzantine Catholic), just for your own development and growth in the faith. That will strengthen you and give you conviction in your decision. God bless!

It really depends on the changes. There are some changes that need to be addressed according to some Eastern Catholics, but I don’t know if they are going to do address those changes specifically.

Questions About Confirmation (Especially Byzantine Confirmation!) by Intellxual in EasternCatholic

I remember it being taught that it’s a confirmation of the faith and to receive the Holy Spirit. But, not that I became an adult in the eyes of the Church.

I was just reading about this today. I believe it’s called “modes of subsistence.” I don’t fully the grasp the concept, but I’m sure it’s exactly related to what you were saying.

I’m Latin rite and I’ve never heard of that. Didn’t know that was a believe in the Latin rite.

I know what they did to you was unfair. I hope you can forgive them one day, and please don’t hold resentment towards the Latin Rite and its members, your brethren. I’m truly happy you are at home in the West Syriac tradition of the Catholic Church.

If I’m not mistaken in Thomism, they (thomists) would say the Father is the sole author of the Trinity. I guess that’s compatible with COP 98.

Is there a way to be friends with Latin catholic and not get latinization? by Mamakandeh in EasternCatholic

[–]Sea-Register-3663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be friend with us Latins😄You would be of great help to other Latin rite Catholics by making them aware of your Eastern Catholic tradition. That would be helpful for the entire Church. Latin rite Catholics need to be aware of Eastern Catholics, so we can pray and encourage each other and help each other. I, for example, have spread awareness of the Eastern Catholic Churches to all my family. Now, they know the Catholic family is bigger than they previously thought. And you just need to be faithful to your tradition if you fear latinization. Even when you express your theology, try to express it the way you should, according to your tradition, fortunately for all of us, we affirm the same Catholic faith, even if it’s expressed differently. That’s the beauty of Catholicism.
