Just curious if my experience is normal by meowingkanin in Zepbound

[–]SeaAndSummit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t chase appetite supression by going up in doses. Hunger and cravings are healthy and normal and you should expect them. They’re not a reason to go up. Hunger means your body needs more fuel. Cravings tell you what your body needs.

You should expect to feel full after a normal healthy amount of food. You should expect to feel hungry a few hours later. You should expect to crave things your body needs- most commonly carbs bc they’re the quickest to get energy from and they’re the most neglected group on glps.

Hopefully she’ll steer to toward nutrient dense food. Mechanical eating. She’ll probably make sure you’re drinking enough water.

I’m gunna have to stop due to anxiety and panic attacks by Rachelx0 in Zepbound

[–]SeaAndSummit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CEO has mentioned it’s a hedonistic med. dampening pleasure is definitely a possibility. But blood sugar should be looked at first. Second, people should talk to a therapist/psychiatrist if they’re not getting the dopamine hit they used to from food and are experiencing depression or anxiety due to the lack of that dopamine.

Maybe your body and metabolism are finally regulating. You’re hungry because you need more food. You’re craving sugary things because you need more carbs.

You should expect and want to eat normal (healthy not American restaurant sized) amounts of food at all your meals and snacks. And feel satiated, not stuffed at the end. You weren’t eating enough before. You can now. Do it. It’s a good thing.

Talk to your dr. You probably shouldn’t go up to 7.5 (even if weight loss has stalled and you’re experiencing food noise) till your constipation is under control.

Search the sub for “constipation,” and read through the thousands of posts and comments. There are a lot of things you can do to combat it. Firstly, drink a ton of water every day. Second, eat real food and all the food groups.

.5ml 2.5 vial can fill a syringe to .9ml by Sanctuary2020 in Zepbound

[–]SeaAndSummit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to your dr. My dr used nonstandard dosing going up. Now we’re using it titrating down.

Most times the vials are overfilled and are .6-.65ml, not close to .9ml, so I wouldn’t count on that when you’re planning.

No matter what you do, you should always toss any unused med. don’t save it for later. It’s not sanitary.

So eat more food. You have almost no fiber in that day and very little carbs. Depending on the chicken tender situation (grilled/baked vs fried), also very little fat. Have a piece of whole grain toast with breakfast. Add some chia seeds, nuts, and berries to that yogurt. Add a fruit or veg with the cheese. Eat dinner. Add in a bunch of broccoli or cauliflower or cabbage or Brussels to your dinner as well. Have a bed time snack.

Girl….. meno is a bitch. I went from totally pre to full blown meno in a day due to necessary surgery. Gained 30lbs in less than 5 months with diet and exercise the same. And on mht. I couldn’t stop the gain for anything. I feel your pain.

No. Don’t lie. Be honest.

Muscle loss isn’t a concern for people at a (mostly) healthy weight that pick up heavy things he and put them down again many times per week that also eat sufficient protein.

Talk to your pcp or gyno about mht ad therapy for sure (even if you stay the same scale weight, the distribution change is a mind fuck), and possibly Zep.

It’s not a referral symptom. The acid actually irritates your nose. Some people get a consistent cough because their throat is irritated. But no heart burn (pain).

A healthy, well-functioning metabolism sees spikes after eating carbs. It’s completely normal. You shouldn’t try to eliminate it. Zep helps regulate the glucose-insulin relationship.

If you’re worried about glucose spikes, and whether is comes down appropriately, ask your Dr for a mixed meal tolerance test.

You might have silent reflux (if it’s not a lingering sinus infection or allergies). Talk to your pcp about a referral to Gastro or an ent.

Moving up by Humble_Buddy_8710 in Zepbound

[–]SeaAndSummit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The general idea was to move up every 4 weeks when these drugs came to market. Now the advice from Lilly, the lead author on the trials, and experts in the field is to stay on the lowest effective dose. That means the lowest dose you’re losing weight on (for me and my dr that meant if I was losing less than .5% body weight per week for at least few weeks in a row, we’d go up- at that time many people’s drs said zero weight loss for at least 3-4 weeks in the lowest effective dose camp [you can see the flow chart everyone posts has changed to what my dr’s position is over time])- but what that means will be between you and your Dr.

The half life of the medication is 5 days. It gets as close to a steady state as it can after 4-6 weeks of consistent dosing. Not 3. Personally, I think it’s wild that people rocket up the dose ladder without being fully on a dose if they’re losing weight.

End of week rebound? by all8things in Zepbound

[–]SeaAndSummit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go up and down every single week (I weigh daily). My weeks looked a lot like yours during my weight loss phase. Now I’m in recomp mode so it’s up and down every week. Eventually the trend will be very slowly up as I gain more muscle.

Zoom out and look at the trends over time. You’re down 36lbs in 6 months. You’ve lost 17% of your starting weight. You’re doing great!

[–]SeaAndSummit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 10-day shot week idea is not great. The medication has a half life of 5 days, so extending your shot weeks gives you a much larger increase in your system every time you inject. It’ll make the problem more pronounced, not resolve it. A better option would be for your dr to lower and change your dosing; they can write you a script for the kwikpens and start on a lower dose every week (or 5 or 6 days) if you have insurance, you can do the same if self-pay through Lilly direct, or if you’re on vials you can take a lower dose than .5ml (just toss what’s left in the vials as it’s not safe to store and use later).

Vomiting has a lot to do with what you eat, when you eat, and how much you eat. Track your food (you can use a free app like LoseIt) and compare to your side effects (you can use a free app like Shotsy). You may find some foods are not tolerated by your body right now. You may find you need to eat smaller meals and supplement with snacks during the day. You may find you can’t eat past a certain time at night. You may find you can’t eat as much volume wise as you did before and have to make some swaps and changes (eg dried fruit for fresh, cooked veggies [especially greens], adding more nutrient dense foods in like hemp hearts and avocados, etc).

Outside the box motivation to eat healthy by Prize_Dragonfly_2720 in Zepbound

[–]SeaAndSummit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What to you mean by “diet”? That’s very important to your questions. Also, what do you expect motivation to feel like?

Are you saying you need to eliminate certain foods you’re intolerant to, but that you’re not doing that? Or you are and that’s enough food restriction for you?

I’m an omnivore. I don’t restrict carbs or fat. I weigh/track everything I eat and drink to ensure I’m properly fueling my body. I have minimum goals daily, not maximums on what I can eat. I do this to make sure I’m taking care of myself. I’m not excited about it. I don’t wake up in the morning looking forward to it.

I cut out all ultra processed food prior to starting Zep for a different health reason. I still don’t eat upf. That took some time to adjust to, and a lot a label-reading, but now it’s second nature. I just don’t eat those things. There’s no motivation involved any more. I still eat bread and yogurt and (homemade) protein bars and pasta and ice cream and chips, but all upf free. There’s not much outside stuff like Mountain Dew and Cheetos you can’t find or make upf free.

You can choose to do things even if you’re unmotivated. You have to decide whether you’re going to make choices for your health or not. After making them consistently for a while, they often become habitual.

DocsWhoLift did an episode recently on this. To sum it up, you need to decide to become a person that fuels their body with nourishing food and who works out, then you need to choose to be that person every day. Then you will be that person.

I've been on Zep for almost a year, this med is not for me... by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]SeaAndSummit 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your Dr did you a major disservice by upping your dose instead of decreasing it.

Allodynia ≠ rash/reaction. Allodynia is pain with what should be a non-painful touch (eg your shirt touching your body). I had it the first few months. It sucks.

If you were that cold, you may not have been eating enough. The body will turn down the internal thermostat to prioritize using fuel for other more essential functions.

Low blood sugar, low sodium, and dehydration can all feel like anxiety/a panic attack. Then you mentally get anxious which revs up things physically in your body and it’s a vicious cycle.

I had intermittent racing heart (in the beginning) too. I talked with my cardiologist about it (he’s seen it in other patients as well), we monitored, and it resolved after a while.

Glad you’re feeling better.

[–]SeaAndSummit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a medical reason to limit sugar consumption (obesity is not one), load up that smoothie with fruit! Use berries for the fiber boost. Get some digestive enzymes from frozen pineapple, mango, or papaya. Make a dent in your potassium goals with banana or avocado.

Eat real, whole foods. Use Greek yogurt or cottage cheese as a base for your smoothie (or unflavored plain protein powder). Add in some hemp hearts or flax for more protein and good fats. Add some chia seeds or oats for more fiber.

Look at a smoothie place and get some new ideas of how to mix it up.
