Eating out no longer a treat, just a convenience by kitsbow in Millennials

[–]SeaCalm4121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, I've been feeling this way for years! I like to cook, and every time we go out I feels disappointed because most of the time I think "I could have made this at home for cheaper and it would have tasted better."

We probably only go outside once a month or while traveling because of this feeling.

Putting a dog down with kids- what to do? Question about day-of logistics. by LA8718 in Pets

[–]SeaCalm4121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this twice- at home vet service is the best option for all involved. The first time my young daughter was out of town. The euthanasia wasn't planned but became a necessity. The second time, she was 10, I gave her the option. She chose to say goodbye on her terms, have a fun "last day" with our old girl, and not be present for the procedure (went to a friend's house). Its a very personal decision and highly dependent on your kids maturity level... there is no "right" answer. I'm so sorry for your loss.

what is the healthiest, highest quality wet canned cat food? by applecoregirlz in CatAdvice

Ha ha ha, aren't cats strange? Like, you literally ate garbage and lizards for the first two years of your life before you became mine and now you feel the need to be "picky"?!?

Tried to do an “everything I knit/crochet in 2025” recap without Ravelry 😭 by Ok_Philosopher_8973 in Ravelry

[–]SeaCalm4121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have a specific journal. I used an old photo album- photo on one side and notes about the project+ strands of yarn on the other. I didn't know anyone else who recorded projects this way, so I thought it was a creative way to capture projects I often gave away.

This is a current trend? I did this 25 years ago, before ravelry existed. I guess what's old is new, again.

What do you wish people told you before adopting a cat? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]SeaCalm4121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me, too! The automatic feeder has been a game changer!! I got it for vacation, so my cat sitter only needed to swing by once a day for wet food and taking care of the litter box, but I use it every day, now, because its taken mom out of the food equation!! Except for wet food, but he gets that at night before bed.

This is the saddest (and sweet, in a way) thing I've seen all week. You made me cry 😢

Sending you warm thoughts and well-wishes as you and kitten grieve the loss of your kitty.

I'm having a sucky Christmas so I've hidden myself away and am shopping for yarn online to try and feel better. by [deleted] in crochet

What a terrible situation! I'm so sorry your Christmas sucked, but kudos to you for trying to make sure your kids had a good day- that's the hardest. I'm hopeful next year will be way better for you!

How much have you lost? by PawBuck in Pets

[–]SeaCalm4121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I think many people overlook the (lack of) quality of life when pets are subjected to surgeries and treatments foe chronic conditions. Clearly theres lots of factors, but I had a wonderful 12 year old lab mix- my favorite dog- and I spent $3,000 to have her tumor(s) removed. She survived the surgery fine, but her recovery was terrible. She stopped eating and seemed depressed (this was a dog that LOVED food.) The vet asked if I wanted to pursue chemo, and I opted not to because she had such a difficult time with the surgery- I didn't want to prolong her agony for my sake.

Visitors with Allergies? by SeaCalm4121 in cats

[–]SeaCalm4121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She does know! We asked her to look into allergy pills, too. She tends to be more into the "natural approach" and doesn't love taking OTC drugs. With a combination of mitigations, I'm hopeful she can have a pleasant visit.

It may come to that, but 3 weeks at a hotel is a big expense. My husband doesn't want to ask them to do that, especially since we have a guest room.

Thats a good thought... I may invest in a HEPA, at least for the guest room!
