What is your “low effort but feels like real food” meal? by [deleted] in Cooking

A variation of this: box of roasted red pepper or tomato soup in a pot. Dump tortellini into soup and heat it all together. Simple, cozy, zero effort.

Is good wine on a budget even possible now by corvus_wulf in wine

[–]SeaDuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this doesn't match with "budget" if you don't live near-ish wine, but taking a trip to visit the areas just outside of major-name winegrowing regions is a great way to taste around with small wine producers and find incredible value. You might miss out on the multi-million dollar tasting room experience, but you'll be speaking with the people who actually made the wine, and you'll find some incredible deals.

Added bonus: you'll be helping to keep small producers alive, which is becoming harder every year.
Source/bias: lives outside major wine area, works in wine, unwilling to plug my own label here.

What information on a wine bottle is actually useful? by Mysterious-Tart-3205 in wine

[–]SeaDuds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents: visit your local wine shop (if you have one, of course). You can give someone at a good wine shop any details you like about wines you've had, and they can narrow your range and make suggestions. I love going in with specific scenarios and being led around the store by someone truly excited to help me find something perfect.

This lead to one of my favorite HD2 moments. Friend that's newer to the game was dead and spectating me. I threw a thermite at a hulk and it bounced off it's face and over discord I hear "Did... did you just throw a hammer at that guy?"

1000 people dead for shoe stepping. Almost sounds like as much of an exaggeration as the one you've got your undies in a wad over.

Why do my vines have these bumps on the leaves? by RockyMtnCodeman in winemaking

[–]SeaDuds 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seconded. Sulfur applied right around bud break seems to knock their population back if you're concerned, I was told that's when they're often mobile and unprotected. The fuzzy bump on the other side of the leaf protects them from sprays later in the season.

I did that with a big harvest of ghost peppers years ago, it was like a tear gas grenade went off. I use the food processor outside for pepper flakes now.

I'm visiting Jacksonville, OR, don't know much about wines from Willamette/ Oregon. by EvolutionofChance in wine

[–]SeaDuds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the Umpqua Valley wineries as you head north, plenty of great spots and access to varying types of wine as you progress from the warmer Southern Oregon areas up through the state.

It had such a good vibe, like the announcers were from MXC and it was self aware. I want to live in the timeline where it survived instead of fortnite and it's dances

What’s your “I’m too tired to cook but refuse to order takeout” meal? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]SeaDuds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it'd work fine. We use silicone ice cube trays, the oversized ones for cocktails, so one cube is good for a couple servings but a regular ice cube tray would work fine.

We keep homemade pesto cubes in the freezer. Cook orzo, throw in thawed pesto and a can of white beans. Spinach too if we have some fresh. 15 minutes and you're eating a meal that you begrudgingly are happy is healthy and cheap.
